Boom Breakfast & Co.

I have eaten here a few times, and honestly I find it over rated. I mean it is breakfast, it's alright. But it is SOOOO overpriced. The hollandase on the benedicts tastes not fresh, and I really don't see the big deal about the "frites."

The sweet breakfasts are great- if you go, go for the waffles or pancakes.. But again, for such a carb based breakfast, it is so overpriced.

I also had the great displeasure of visiting the Eglinton location. All negative reviews pretty much hit the mark...pricey, ill-inducing food. Get a life and stop reviewing other patron reviews.

It's pretty tough to ruin my breakfast. I mean, I can eat toast that is barely warmed or charred. I can eat bacon rubbery or burnt to a crisp. I can drink coffee that would make a frenchman smile or take the paint off of a volkswagen. Just don't mess with my over-medium eggs. That's... over... medium...

So we slip into this location for a working brekky and I lay down the gauntlet. Go ahead. Ruin my breakfast. I dare ya.

The Good
Decor is nice, a clean look that's not overdone or crowded. No waiting, seat yourself type of atmosphere with large tables and seating area. Waiter arrives on cue. There endeth the good.

The Bad
This location sucks. Virtually no parking anywhere except the city parkette next door that opens well after the breakfast rush, and you'll have a decent walk back to the restaurant after you park. There's $3 gone and not an egg in sight.

The Ugly
You call that a breakfast? Two eggs ordered over medium arrive over very easy. Very. As in runny. Strike one. The $2+ upcharge for peameal was lost on me. There were 2 strips of back bacon, that's it, and if I had the desire to hold them up off the plate daylight would surely have shone through. Strike two. Toast? One slice of bread lightly toasted. Strike three you're out. Boom frits? I buy the same fries at No Frills. Strike four. Coffee served in a thimble. Strike five. Waiter pulling dirty dishes, empty creamers and sugar wrappers off the table, over my plate, while I'm still chewing? Strike six.

Sorry. There is a proliferation of breakfast places out there that'll knock your socks off for $8 or less. There's no room in the market for this. I left this place hungry.

Did I mention the location sucks?

Do yourself a favour. Walk east 2 blocks and hit the Sunset Grill, or 2 more blocks north on Yonge and catch the Good Bite Restaurant on the east side there. Under $8 and you won't finish all the food. Tell'em dilly sent ya.

This is the 2nd time I've sought our Boom for breakfast, and again the food was delicious. I had the Eggs Florentine - done perfectly with just the right amount of Hollandaise sauce. Service is friendly and efficient. Decor is fresh and appropriate for a diner/breakfast establishment. Extensive breakfast menu. They do serve food other than breakfast, but have not tried it yet. Tony, the owner, has been hands on both times I visited. This is his 3rd Boom restaurant, and he definitely has the formula down for good breakfast dining!
