I chose primary care because of the relationships you can develop with patients. The most important characteristics a primary care nurse practitioner can have are patience and listening, taking that time to hear what's going on. I always put a big emphasis on catching things early. Preventative care is a significant part of my interests.

I chose to go into family medicine to treat a wide variety of patients. The best part of being a physician is having the ability to help patients and know you're making a difference. With health care, little problems can become bigger problems if you wait. So I tell all my patients to get out ahead of problems early.

I knew I wanted to work in family medicine where I was helping and caring for people. I love the fact that in primary care I get to see my patients more than once and sometimes even treat whole families. Patients want to feel like they're heard, so the most important skill is to be able to listen.
