Think of where the pups come from
The parents of those dogs live in factory kind of conditions, never knowing a loving hand or caring voice. Please google puppy mills and you will see dozens of articles like this: http://www.hsvma.org/assets/pdfs/hsvma_veterinary_report_puppy_mills.pdf
I volunteer for Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network and have fostered dogs who have come from puppy mills. Some mill owners will contact us when their breeding stock is no longer making them enough money. Most mill owners just euthanize their money losers, some by a bullet. If you want to buy a puppy, please go to the Canadian Kennel Club where you can search by breed and find a good breeder: http://www.ckc.ca/Choosing-a-Dog/PuppyList/Default.aspx You can also find canine events that are happening near you : http://members.ckc.ca/en/Default.aspx?tabid=87&page=0 There you can meet breeders and talk to them about their dogs and know that you can buy a dog from such a person who would give you full support in raising one of their pups, who would let you meet at least one of the parents, who would advise you about quirks of the breed and care necessary, who would take the dog back if there was a problem, who would give you legitimate references from other customers etc. etc. NO breeder who loves and cares for their dogs breeds for profit. Vet care, food, training is all too time costly and time consuming if done right. You want to buy a dog who comes from strong, healthy, genetic lines, who has been socialized properly and who has a good temperament. A good breeder will help you pick the right pup for your family and cares where their pups are going, even wanting to come to your home to see their pups' future living conditions. Their pups' parents should be living wonderful lives, not living as prisoners in metal cages ALL THEIR LIVES till they are no longer profitable.
