The Grand, Oakland Reviews (27)
That day was September 16th. I was very excited, and from the moment we went in to see the sites we were blown away. The professionalism of the Grand Olympia was certainly top notch.
I was treated like royalty for the whole tour, and when we locked in our date to book it was seamless.
Suzanne was very patient with me, and every single question I had. Not only answering them swiftly, but also reassuring me I wasn't a Groomzilla.
The day of the wedding was incredible. I was able to sit back, and relax while the extremely professional staff was running around making sure that me and my wife were not only satisfied by blown away.
I had even forgotten to select music for the signing of the license, but they had not only let me know but had it covered just in case.
The food was delicious, everyone complained about how stuffed there belly was. Which worked our perfect for our Dj, who's song choices not only fit in perfectly with what we had wanted, but gave everyone a nice cardio routine dancing away.
The bar service was also incredible, a constant gathering at the front of it due to just how amazing the drinks were.
Thank you to the Grand Olympia for making my dream wedding just that.
Our waiter was slow didn't bring enough food out for the whole table had to wait and then someone ask the waiter where was the food for people that didn't get any . Pasta was not cooked properly and it was cold not even warm the waiter did not come around with appetizers we had to call them to come over yo the table. The night was good dj was fantastic felt sorry for bride and groom hope they didn't pay a lot for the food
The assistance they provided in preparing me for my big day was out of this world. The way that Suzanne worked so hard to accommodate all of my requests was insane. She is fabulous, the type of person that when it is all over...you want to be her friend because she is THAT AMAZING!
My wedding day was absolutely spectacular, I was blown away when I first saw the hall decor, the center pieces were beautiful, the head table was fabulous and back drop was honestly to die for! Other halls would have charged my life savings to get what I got here at Grand Olympia!
The food was delicious. Starting from the antipasto table right to the midnight buffet. It was hot, tasty and not bland like other wedding food I have had in the past. In fact, I enjoyed the food so much I plan on getting take out from there.....I got two words for you: MUSHROOM RISOTTO!
I went to other halls to see what I could get for bar service and I have to say that the Grand Olympia has the best variety out there with the greatest value.
Our DJ, Daniel was so accommodating, we had music from all different languages and wanted some regular music too and he bent over backwards to look out for us and ensure we got what we wanted. Daniel was awesome!
Finally, saving the best for last...the service. OMG! I have never seen so many people fret after me and my husband before ever! I truly felt like a princess and it's exactly what you would want on your wedding day, everyone and I mean every single person there, from the supervisor to the servers and bartenders, all were absolutely fantastic. Guests are STILL coming up to me and commenting on how great the service was at the Grand Olympia. This was the greatest service I have ever had IN MY LIFE! I am not kidding you, I have never seen anything like it before....I think the Queen would be jealous that is how awesome it is!
If you want a wonderful wedding for great value and for your guests to eat well, drink, dance and be merry, than the Grand Olympia is for you!

Thank you everyone at the Grand Olympia for making everything amazing for us.
Great job to all involved!
Just amazing

Not sure about the most recent posts but if you have $400 shoes maybe pay attention to where they are?!
Had our wedding here in 2012, was awesome!
They hit all the heads on the nail, dotted the T's and crossed the I's as they say in Rome.
Still being told to the day that we had the best wedding ever, but maybe that was based on our amazing guest list, either way I had a great time and as the Groom isn't that all that matters, I dreamed about it my whole life...
In all seriousness, great service, great staff, brought our own cake, centre pieces, and gift box.
Shots at the door were a huge hit, even with people that hate shots, and everything fell into place.
Excellent value for a wedding venue!
I attended a symposium at Grand Olympia and took an extra pair of shoes which I left under our exhibitor table along with my short fall black jacket. When I returned from the event, I have realized that I have left behind both the shoes and the jacket.
As we were one of the last leaving that room that day and we saw cleaners stepping in, I was pretty sure that my things will be left in their lost and found. To make things even more difficult, the Peter Keiser shoes are not only expensive but the last gift I received from my father, now deceased.
And here is where the hell starts:
On a first call to follow up, the receptionists tell me that there is no such things as Lost and Found and if anything is found that they discard it. I asked for them to look for it and left my phone number but when hours later nobody got back to me, I called back, just to be told that staff has left for a day and to call tomorrow. Again, I have asked them to look and get back and again nobody got back to me.
Calling them a day later did not get me further ahead and the call again did not get returned. I called back again (this is the 4th call now) and asked for a Facility Manager. They put me on hold for 25 minutes and ‘Eric’ did not pick up the phone. I called back and asked to speak to a General Manager and I was connected to Taylor, who is very abusive. Basically he told me the things were not found, and it is not them! Huh? Really dude, it is as simple as drawing a point from A to B.
I have asked him to review a security tape and get back to me. Taylor did get back to me where I learned that he is not a general manager but Food and Beverage manager and now there was ‘nothing under our table’. That actually is a ridiculous statement as it was there when we left and ONLY THEIR STAFF WAS CLEANING THE TABLES. Ok, I get it he does not want to take the responsibility. I have told him, if needs to be, I will call the police after which the guy hung up on me.
I have asked to speak to a General Manager but I am not holding my breath.
So if you want your diseased father’s gift, an expensive $400 pair of ballroom shoes, or worse yet your wedding stuff, pick this facility, or if you do not mind crassness and unprofessionalism of the management. I will for sure remember this for life and do anything in my power to tell people about this horrible experience.
Amazing !!!!!
Thank-you to ...I think her name was Elizabeth (the decorator), and rest of the team did an awesome job.
Thanks Suzanne for making it happen!!
We had an awesome function
Your attention to detail and pride of taste shined. You all made our once in a lifetime event a spectacular memory. You were genuine, attentive gentlemen.
Bartenders –thank-you for doing your job and keeping those in line that needed it!
Chef –the food was hot, full of flavor and moist –unforgettable.
Keith –such a happy face, genuine man you are. Thank-you for running the show and being attentive to all our needs!
Grand Olympia Owners –you should be proud of the people under your hire. If all events went like ours, your venue will climb to number one!
Suzanne –thank you for putting up with our paranoia! You have surpassed our expectations and demands. You were always kind, professional and non judgmental. The wedding was magical and as I walked around mingling between dishes, people were mopping up sauce with bread, the chop bone was shiny, compliments were over flowing. Thanks for putting the wrath of us onto those who prepared for this event. It met all of our hopes and dreams. The Italians ate their words. Thanks!! Word of mouth travels and our family talks a lot! We would recommend your services hands down without hesitation. Thanks for listening and making our dreams come true.
Throughout the months, we had our food tasting which was organized and very helpful in deciding what our guests would like most. We also had several more visits to finalize details for the day of the wedding.
Keith was very organized and was aware of all of the small details we had requested. He too was patient and very accommodating with all of the requests we had made. This put us at ease knowing that our wedding day was in good hands.
The rehearsal was organized and Keith did an excellent job of making sure everyone knew their positions.
Our wedding day soon approached and WOW! We were blown away. The venue looked amazing! Grand Olympia executed our vision a million times better then we could have ever imagined! Everyone was so friendly and organized and professional. Grand Olympia took care of all of our worries and everyone had an amazing time.
**special thanks to Wayne..he was awesome. SO professional and mature. He was handling everything with ease and left us with zero stress."
To begin, our contract included the limo as well as any gratuities associated with this. The limo driver asked a person in my wedding party for an envelope that apparently was suppose to be given to him and she was actually going to write him a check. Luckily, my husband came to get me before having her write a check and I was absolutely disgusted with the fact that this would actually happen. I had to talk to the limo driver and tell him that it was included in our contract with the Grand Olympia and that we do not have an envelope for him.
Second, food was not up to our standards. Family members told us that their antipasto plate either had no prosciutto or had a half of a piece. Our lasagna was cut into pizza slices, were cold, and the portions were all different, our steaks were also portioned differently and every guest received either a very small portion or a regular sized portion. We agreed to serve the tenderloin wrapped in bacon with a shrimp and scallop skewer and to our surprise they served us cocktail sized shrimp and scallops even though I took out the second meat and side dish in our contract! Also, instead of wrapping the bacon around the meat they carelessly threw it on top. Some tables had no dinner rolls including the head table! The salad was good. Parents of the bride and groom had a terrible server and many guests told us that they had to ask for wine or go to the bar during dinner service because the wine was not left on the tables during dinner and the servers failed to top up the glasses. At 10:00pm the Stella beer and Grappa was apparently all out. We were so disappointed in the fact that guests were coming up to us telling us they were out of Stella and Grappa. However, they were kind enough to substitute with Heineken for the Stella. At the late night table in our contract it stated that there would be Porchetta served however THEY DID NOT SERVE IT. This was an important element at an Italian wedding. Not only were my extended family and friends upset but my immediate family was embarrassed especially since we had so many out of town and out of country guests. Finally, the DJ (also provided by the Grand Olympia) was absolutely horrendous! We were absolutely disgusted and frustrated with his choice in music and attitude towards myself and my husband! My husband and I went out of our way to make a list of songs that all our guests whom we know well, would want to hear! I had guests coming up to me complaining that he would not play their songs because we had to get through the brides list! Only a couple of our songs were played the rest we did not ask for! He played songs that I put on the DO NOT PLAY LIST twice!!!!! After having my own brother come up to me and telling me that the DJ did not have “Sexy Back” by Justin Timberlake (which is modern music) I personally went up to the DJ myself and told him I did not want anymore Italian/folk music being played because the young people are all sitting down. These were his exact words and I quote “I have been doing this along time, I know what I am doing. When I play modern music no one dances.” The only modern music I heard was Nicki Manaj, Avici and Swedish House Mafia. There was no top 40 as per requested. We began the dance portion at 10:00pm. Myself, my husband, my brother, and multiple family members went to talk to the DJ about changing the music. He was completely dismissive and disregarded any suggestions. Half of our young crowd either stayed at the bar or left at 11:00pm. This was not something a bride should have experienced on her wedding day. Having multiple guests complaining about the music and having the DJ disregard my wants was very frustrating.
We are dishearten and defeated by such unprofessional and poor service on such an important day. This is not how I wanted to remember my wedding. I have continuously tried contacting the Grand Olympia since my wedding to discuss what happened and why we were not provided with what we were promised and I have not received a response from anyone. It has now been 4 weeks since my wedding.
People should be aware that there was a change in ownership for the past year and wish I would have known this prior to booking such an important event with the Grand Olympia because I would not have booked under the new management considering I did not know what kind of service they would provide, which after my experience is definitely not good.
They made us feel like royalty! If I am ever planning an event, I would want my guests to have the experience that we did. Please convey our thanks again to Nolan and Jason for making our evening very special.

Your staff must be commended what a wonderful group. In particular I need to mention TYLER RAYNHAM. He is a great asset to your organization. His people skills, and his attention to detail were outstanding. The waiters were very friendly, professional and the service was impeccable. ZAID ´was serving my table and he was very accommodating. The bartender, Lloyd was professional and quick.
Your staff helped make the reception a huge success. I commend them and your organization.
