I use to LOVE Mantique until I was told of an incident that happened with my bf and I. We had gone inside to find him a nice shirt and while the FEMALE sales person seemed very helpful; I didnt know she was an insecure, self-centered, and an UGLY person on the inside and out. When my bf went inside to try on the shirt, she followed behind him and asked to know who I was. When my bf had told her I was his gf, she replied by saying " YOU CAN DO WAY BETTER!"...HMMM EXCUSE ME!? HAVE YOU SEEN YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR? MAYBE LOSE 20 LBS AND THE THICK FACIAL HAIR AND THAN TALK! you are a sales representative so know your role! I hope you read this or someone from the store finds this and shows their employees. Clearly this location does not think twice before hiring such pathetic people to represent their store! This happened awhile back and I will surely visit this location and give her a piece of my mind! Women like her need to be brought down to reality and I am MORE THAN HAPPY to do this for her!

Word of Advice: never send in your boyfriend to go alone to go try something on... sadly!

This is an email I wrote Mantique in July. No response yet.

I am writing because of a bad experience I had at Mantique in the Metrotown mall in Burnaby. I had never been in this store in my life but decided to have a look around
one day just over a week ago now. I found the staff very aggressive in sale tactics, going so far as to tell me I should try things on and putting it in the change room for me even when I said I didn't really want to. I wrote it off at the time because I thought perhaps that works with some people, but others like myself are just put off and made uncomfortable. Anyway, on that occasion I purchased a small undershirt, and another top. I remember checking my receipt when I left to see how much time I would have to exchange or return the shirt if I were to decide against it as I made the decision while I was in a bit of a hurry. It said 7 days for regular items. I had looked at some sale items on your sale racks that were marked with red stickers showing the new price but had purchased a shirt from your wall and paid the price on the white tag attached to it. Therefore it was a regular item to me.

When I returned home I decided the shirt was not for me. When I took it back to the store a few days later to return it the sales lady asked me if I wanted to look for something else. I did find a shirt I liked much better at the cost of 19.99 on sale. The real problem began when I went to the cash to do the exchange and the man at the cash who was apparently the manager, Alex, told me I had purchased a promotional item and could only exchange for the direct amount I had originally purchased for. I was very confused as the item I purchased is entirely separate from your sale items and I had paid the price on the tag attached to the shirt. I am then informed that it says "Promo" on the tag and that promo items are somehow different from regular items although other then that one small word on the tag, they seem identical. I was literally told I had to exchange for a shirt that cost $25 or more unless I want to " loose the $5". In other words unless I want to be robbed of $5 of my money for no good reason. At least that's how I see it and I'm sorry but I can't be the only one. I asked if there was anyway I could have the five dollars on a gift card and just use the rest for my new shirt as I wasn't ready to purchase anything else at this time. The manager told me this was impossible. I asked politely, stating that this was my first time shopping at this store,No one had told me this item was any different from a regular item. He again referenced the receipt. Problem there is I didn't get a receipt until AFTER my purchase. It would be a common courtesy if you feel the need to disguise some of your items instead of simply stating that their different, to just verbally make your customers aware at the cash. The manager couldn't find a customer service gesture that would help me out other then to point at the receipt mockingly. He even went so far as to reference Le Chateau's return policy and how they don't even tell you they won't do returns. Here's the problem with that. One stores horrible customer service, does not justify you having horrible customer service. So after much trying and no empathy from your manager I basically want nothing from your store except all of my money back. I asked for the number to someone who could help me with this and was eventually led to this email address and asked simply to write to Rick. I was not given a last name and I had to pry to find out that you are the General Manager. The way I've left things is the manager of the store has written me an extension for my exchange of the shirt on the receipt but at this point I just want a full refund of my $24.88 and tax.

I want to be clear that the manager was very rude and displayed no customer service skills. At one point when I was trying to explain that a promotional tag looking like a regular tag was something I'd never seen he said " Well every store has different policies" to which I replied that I've worked in retail for many years and had never seen anything like that only to have him say " Well have you worked at Mantique?" in a snooty fashion. Not what you'd expect from the supposed leader of your store.

The biggest issue is you are simply tricking people with the way you label your tags. It is hardly noticeable. As I'm sure you well know, people simply look at the price and the size. There is a bunch of code or something on the tag above those two things that no one would read as it is essentially jibberish to people who don't work there and in the middle of that, the word "promo". If you're going to put two essentially identical types of items in the same area and have them abide by different rules at least find a way of making the tag stand out more. I am incredibly upset that even after stating that it was my first experience in your store and lining up to make a purchase just $5 dollars in the difference that I had so much trouble getting my money back and doing so without being made to feel stupid. I hope something can be done about this. I will not be returning to your store for any reason except to get the money that is owed to me and to give back the shirt I purchased.
