Kiley's Electronics - Closed, Saskatoon Reviews (2)
My wife bought me a bluray player from Kiley's for Christmas. It was a Denon BDP-1611UD which I thought made good products, but after not seeing a big difference in picture quality between this unit and my ps3 I started to do some research. It turns out that this unit is made by a third party for Denon so that Denon can sell the unit at a lower price point than their other products. After reading this I was no longer interested in keeping the player (that and seeing that I could get an Oppo BDP-93 bluray player for $40 more than this unit, including taxes and shipping). I brought it into Kiley's within the first 30 days of having the unit and the salesperson at the front counter phoned his manager (Darcy?) and told me that there would be a 15% restocking fee. I asked to see the manager who came to talk to my wife and I and after explaining to him that I had spent thousands in their store he implied that I probably had my system set up wrong if I couldn't see a difference and then left me with 2 options. I could either pay the 15% restocking fee or I could come back the next week and talk to the ass't manager (Calin) who I bought it from to see if he could waive the fee. This is how a local business treats it customers??? I could see it if this was the first purchase I had ever made there, but I have spent a lot of money there over the years and this is all the appreciation they have for my business??? Not only was this a Christmas present, but my wife did not negotiate on price when she bought it, she just paid what she was told. I have dealt with Calin many times and he is great to deal with, however apparently if he is not there, my past patronage means nothing to them. The managers explanation of why they would have to charge a restocking fee was that the box was opened so they would now have to sell it as a demo and would have to mark it down by that much. Funny how BestBuy, Futureshop, Visions and even Walmart don't charge a restocking fee within the first 30 days - I guess the lesson here is I need to start dealing with those businesses because at least I can return something there if I am not happy with it without having to speak to the person I bought it from. I have heard bad things about Kiley's before but after dealing with Calin I thought that those were exageratiions, but now I understand. Oh also, that 15% restocking fee amount - you won't find an indication of that in your service contract on your receipt, however in the store above the counter on the left as you are walking in, there is a sign which states at the bottom that a restocking fee MAY apply on any return. Of course it doesn't state an amount or indicate in what circumstance that may apply. Well they have lost me as a customer and hopefully this posting will make someone else think twice before dealing with them. By the way, I am not a home theatre noob, I do have my projector calibrated and I returned the bluray player in exactly the same condition as I received it including all packaging and wraps.
went and bough a tv they said was in perfect condition and brand new, take it home only to find it was already scratched...do NOT SHOP HERE...way to cutty
