The Wentworth Childrens Aid has a lot to answer for. in the early 50's, (51 or 52) my 2 brothers and I were placed in foster care on a farm in the Hamilton area, as my parents were barely working and living on potato soup in one room. We were on this farm for at least several months and while there, we suffered enormous abuse and torture. To this day my brothers and I remember and are affected by what happened. We are now in our 60s. When I attempted to obtain information from Wentworth Childrens Aid, as to the location, names and details as to where we were and what occurred, I was stonewalled. They refused to provide any information. We were 6,5,and 4 at the time. These people in whose care we were placed were pure evil, and Wentworth obviously didn't bother with a screening process at the time. the abuse included being locked in a rat infested basement with a dirt floor, while these people mentally tortured us while drinking, and rattling the door knob telling us "the rats are going to get us". Being locked in the basement was not a one time occurrance, but a regular ongoing thing they enjoyed putting us through. Their other favourite game was to make us drink a couple large glasses of water before bed, then told us that if we got out of bed to use the bathroom, we would be beat with a razor strap, and if we wet the bed, we would get beat, cosequently the beatings were every single morning. They had their own kids, and one day my mother visited , bringing new clothes she had saved for, the following week she visited and saw me and my brothers in rags with their kids wearing our new clothes. Another game they played..I had to walk 2 miles to a country school, and these people gave me 1/2 an hour to get home, the distance meant I would have to run none stop to be inside the time limit. Occasionally I couldn't do it in time, it meant going to bed without supper and another beating. My aunt tells me, that my mother pulled us out of there when she visited and saw strap welt marks on my back. I asked my father why he didn't do something and he told me that I didn't understand "the times". Then I read about all the awards paid out for children suffering sexual abuse from priests. I must tell you, I would much rather have suffered sexual abuse than what we went through. I realize that nothing can be done now to make it right, I just want the world to know what we went through.
