Naturalizer

Today I tried to shop at the Naturalizer Shoe Store in the St. Vital Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This was my first visit to this store, and it will be my last. I asked to try on a pair of running shoes that were on sale. The sales clerk was very quick, went to the back, got my size, gave them to me to try on and went to do something else. While trying them on I looked at the signage and said to the other clerk, is there 25% off the sale price?, to which the reply was yes. I took the shoe off, the first clerk was back and asked if I wanted them and I repied yes but I want to shop some more. She took my shoes to the cash register while I shopped. I decided not to buy anything else and went to the till. She rung up my purchase and when she was finished the price seemed wrong by my calculation but I thought I had better check the receipt before I said anything. I used my Christmas gift card to pay and because of the problems with the gift cards in the mall, one must keep every receipt from the card to keep track of the remaining total on the card. I began looking for the receipt in the bag and after a few seconds asked if she had put the receipt in the bag and she said she had and if I didn't mind she was going to look after the next customer. I searched the bag again, looked through the shoe box and asked her if she had put the receipt in the box. She replied no she put it in the bag. I looked again and said I couldn't find it. She said "I put it in the bag" By this time I am frustrated as I cannot find the receipt. I said (still standing right in front of her) I just opened the bag here in front of you and I can't find the receipt. She said, I know I saw you take the box out of the bag, you must have it because I put it in the bag. Maybe you put it in your purse, or your pocket. I seached my purse, my pocket the bag, the box, the floor, and again said I can't find it. She insisted I had the receipt (the one she said she put in the bag) Why she didn't come right out and call me a liar I don't know, because she certainly said all but that.
She even came out from behind the counter and looked at the floor to see maybe I was hiding the receipt from her, and was lying to her about it. At this point I had to ask for another receipt because I had to have proof of price and she said she couldn't give me one because "we don't do that" So I asked her to write down the price, etc, because I had to have a record of the transaction. She complied, and I also asked for her employee number to be written on the paper. I took my non refundable, non returnable purchase and walked out the door. I then checked the hand written receipt, by the way - no 25% off. So I went back and said to her that she never gave me the discount, she said it was all ready included in the price. I said "when I asked" at which point she cut me off and said the discount was all ready included in the price. At that point I just shook my head and walked away. I have been shopping in the St. Vital Centre for over 20 years and have never been treated so rudely, so abruptly, so ignorantly, so beligerantly in that entire time by anyone in any store. I will not return to shop in the Naturalizer store ever again. I own my own business, if my staff act like that to any customer - they can find a new employer. This young "lady" employee number 807453 would be better suited to work in an environment where she didn't need to work with people as she hasn't got the social skills for a job in retail. Later when I was making another purchase in another store I asked for a very large bag to hide the Naturalizer bag inside. I told the salesperson that I didn't want anyone to think I had shopped at the Naturalizer store and was embarrassed to be carrying the bag. The girl said that she had heard that alot in the past, and that many people had expressed that they had had a bad experience in that store. If this letter reaches anyone who gives a damn about this business, please let me know. I imagine that your sales figures would be falling off in that particular store and I know the reason. I will be sharing my shopping experience with others. Thank you for the opportunity of this site allowing me to tell you how poor your store is.
