Extendicare

Over the past month I’ve made about 20 attempts to reach my father by phone, and I’ve only managed to speak to him twice. He has dementia and he is unable to answer his phone when it rings, so I’ve been making requests to the receptionist to put me though to the floor nurse so that she can hand him the phone. Each time I’m transferred, I get voicemail, and if I leave a message I receive no response. Today I argued with the receptionist as well as the floor nurse, and they told me there was no phone in his room so too bad. I told them to bring him a phone or wheel him to one and they said they’re too busy. I’m infuriated now. I’m seeing a similar pattern of neglect and unaccountability to what occurred leading up to atrocities at the nursing home on Heron Road in Dorval, Quebec. It began with the management and support staff collaboratively preventing people from reaching the patients by phone. It ended with 24 dead and a scene reminiscent of a concentration camp. I’m afraid that my father is being neglected and abused there, and I don’t know what course of action to take because of the COVID lockdown.

I totally agree with the oncoming comments from a different person comments review.. and here it is... (this person couldn't have said it any better...)..Moreover, some of Management should be fired as well..

The PSW's are horrible and lazy. I especially can't stand the attitudes of several staff members. The cleaners are lazy and infection control is near non-existent. My relative lived there for more than 4 years and NOBODY showed for his funeral or even sent a card or a representative. These people were part of his home and family and they did nothing. I wouldn't recommend this home for anything other than an inspection and hopefully some mass firing of staff.

Staff is pleasant , attentive and always helpful when I call or visit! Mom always looks cute and always smells nice! They make my mom look and feel like the little lady she is!
Second floor!!

My mother has been to this facility a number of times for convalescence care. They were wonderful with the care she received and very supportive to her needs. Lots of activity and the food was wonderful. They offered family events and they highly encourage the families input to the care being received.

If you are not an old person, in need of geriatric or palliative care, but need convalescence, this is NOT THE PLACE for you.

The facility is focused on geriatric or palliative care and will treat you as if you are senile, suffering of dementia or other illness when in their care. Staff is present but limited and ill equipped to attend to non geriatric or palliative care patients.

CCAC is the least of your support. Their inability to take ownership of issue will frustrate you.

Avoid EXTENDICARE Oshawa, ON if you are not in need of geriatric or palliative care.
