I read all these reviews and decided to try them anyways. Regretting that decision. They say unlimited resprays but takes them a month to actually spray. When you phone in they are rude and say your lying because they don't keep track. I have received an email every day for the last week and a half saying they are coming the next day and still have not come. Call in and they say for sure they will be there tomorrow but they don't come. The kid that comes out is nice but literally sprays front, back and sides in 3 or 4 minutes and wonders why I still have a yard full of weeds. Don't waste your money like so many of us have!!!! Go with someone else!!!

I couldn't give them zero stars. Never used them. They just sent a little girl to my door maybe 15 or 17 years old. I said I'm a renter who is moving out in the next month, and the little girl told me she wouldn't get paid if she didn't get the information! In retrospect I should have confronted the person driving them.

Weed man always sends a young kid in the middle of winter in the freezing cold at 9 pm at night to our door. First of all, I don't want someone at my door at 9 at night, that's just rude and a little creepy. Also, why are they using 14 year olds? That does not seem safe.

Do not sign up for their services, no matter how many times you cancel the service, they keep coming back and charging you money. Stay clear from them!!!

We have asked over and over again to remove our address, name and e-mail from their mailing list and they still continue to "negative bill" us. They will perform the services even if you ask them to cancel the agreement...be very careful of this company. I sent an e-mail and letters this year advising I will charge then with trespassing and harassment if they come go on our premises or contact us in any way. "Be very careful" because once you use them they never go away!!!

Signing a contract enters you into a binding agreement. If the vendor does not live up to their agreement you have the right to break the contract but you must do it correctly. You may even be entitled to a refund. Cancelling service over the phone is never a good idea - do it in writing via registered mail. You can find more information about breaking contracts at the Ministry of Consumer Services.

Ksykes is getting upset and flaming folks but he's right to a point, keep your calm and have a human conversation with customer service. If it doesn't work out as you feel it should then cancel your service and engage the BBB and the Ministry. If you have a valid complaint and a business is ripping people off, don't just give up - pursue the complaint with the ministry and do your part to protect others from being scammed.

I found the service from weedman to be fine overall but had a problem when it came to cancellation. My customer service experience was not good - they failed to cancel my account and billed me further and are now insisting I pay or have it go to collection (a common theme it seems). Once I resolve this issue (using the avenues noted above) I will not be using the weedman service in future.

Weedman called me early in the year and asked me to sign up to their annual summer service. Their trick is to get you to agree to accept receipt of the early payment invoice, which really means you’re accepting the start of a contract between the two of you.
I told the telemarketer that I would not be accepting they're services if I didn't have a quote first, and that receiving a quote would not mean that I was agreeing to receive their services. They are not the only ones that take care of lawns!
The telemarketer, Rob, gave me the indication that if the “Early Payment” invoice wasn’t paid, that there would not be any contract between us. Payment = Contract.
The last week in April Weedman showed up to our house and applied the first treatment in their program, and proceeded to bill me $90 + for the service. I find it funny that the service employee treated the lawn even with a competitor’s sign sticking out at the curb, clearly indicating the property had already been treated. I called them May 2, telling them I had not agreed to any service commitments. They cancelled the service, and I heard nothing from them for about 3 weeks, at which point I started receiving calls to pay the outstanding invoice or they would send my file to collections.
I received another call on May 17th indicating that my account was past due and that I needed to pay it. I told the young lady that I had not agreed to the service, that it had been cancelled, and that I was not going to pay the invoice. She argued that I did have a contract which started in February, and had agreed to the terms. She stated that they had the original conversation from February recorded proving my acceptance. I told her to get me a copy of the recording because I knew I had said, “I I’m not agreeing to sign up for service and only agreeing to receive a quote for review”. She said that I would receive a call with the info. I never heard back from her again or from Weedman until June 1, when a message on my answering machine told me I needed to clear up the invoice ASAP to avoid collections.
I don’t really care about the whole collections thing, but figured it might make it more difficult to renew my mortgage in July.
Do not deal with these guys. I paid the invoice not because they were calling, but so I wouldn't potentially have any problems renewing my mortgage.

I made the mistake of prepaying $2500.00 for services that to this day have not commenced. Emailing, calling, leaving messages, no response. I will be posting signs on my multiple locations indicating this is the result of the work by weed man. Maybe the blanket of weeds will get some attention

I HAD TO PUT HALF A STAR.. BUT THEY DESERVE NOTHING...NEVER USE WEEDMAN!!!! I was just scammed, a representative called me last winter and asked me permission to send information but i never replied since i was not interrested. Well 6 months later they show up unannounced and now they expect me to pay!!! I called them twice to complaint but they keep saying they have proof on a taping of my discussion with the representative and i had agreed to the service. i asked to hear what i had said and of course they will not let me... they are rude, unprofessionnal and if you type WEEDMAN you will read many many people who have had the same experience. I will pursue this to the Ministry of consummer services.. they should be put out of business.... if you get a phone call from them.. hang up and dont say a word!!!

Do not trust anything you hear from Weed Man Sales or service. When we were deciding on which lawn care service to hire this summer we picked Weed Man because the sales representative told us that if the weeds were not dying that all we had to do was call their office and an inspector would be out within 24 hours. (not true) As well, we were told that they would begin the weed control service right away (we hired them in mid April and they did not apply weed control until May 16th, and that was only after I threatened to cancel their service after multiple calls wondering when they would start. ) After the first application - that did not work - an inspector came out, looked over the job and agreed that it needed to be treated again. He promised that it would be done by yesterday (which was 3 days after his inspection) . When I got home yesterday) it was clear they had not done the job so I called the nasty customer service person who finally let me speak to the office manager. She was unbelievably rude and told me that the reason I had weeds was because my lawn was not thick enough. SHE'S NEVER BEEN TO MY HOUSE. I never had weeds last year!! and all my neighbours are weed free because they were smart and went with a competitor. We fertilize and seed our lawn on a regular basis.
She finally said "what can we do to solve this?" I said I wanted service yesterday and she said "impossible" but that she would send someone today - Saturday, but that would only be weather pending. Another lame attempt to drag this service out over a long weekend ultimately not doing the work until mid to late next week!
How can the competition still get the work done in the same weather conditions??

Comment by Dropdeadfred on May 21, 2011
I had to call and yell at Weedman Hamilton yesterday because when they came my wife didn't answer the door, as a result the person only did the front yard. Called to inquire as why I was being charged for both front and back and they told me it was done and offered to send a Senior Technician out to "Analyze my grass" to see if it was done properly. Told them not to bother, just give the long weekend and I'll call back if I still have Weeds in the backyard. I'm one of those people who got burned by them last year and reluctantly agreed over the phone to sign up again. Really not happy with their service!!! Will cancel at weeks end if I still have weeds. Good to know I'm not alone.

I was fully prepared to give Weedman a shot and bought their Spring lawn care package (fertilization, weed control and lawn analysis) through a wagjag promotion for $139 (60-70% discount). They came out and gave me a quote for spring weed control $265 and fertilization $63, but I had already paid for that through WagJag. Then they tried to tell me my lawn is larger than 6000 sq feet- which it is not. Even if it was my price should not be more than double. then they tried to tell me the coupon was for "spot" weed control and they quoted me on a full spray. Nonsense there was nowhere on the quote for spot control. They also quoted me on treatments for the rest of the season, which is fair. My issue is 1. they aren't willing to provide the service that they sold to me and or 2. If the service is not what they said it is they are misleading the public with their advertising.

Weed Man is actually a great company. If you call the office like a proper human being and not screaming you will find you can get some good results. FREE UNLIMITED reapplications, 24 hour service calls(FREE). There are so many options at your finger tips. You get more with honey than you do with vinager!!!!!
Comment by dustygal on Feb 12, 2012
What they promise and what they actually do are totally different. 2011 was supposed to be their "war on weeds" season. They knew that their Fiesta spray wouldn't work with only one application, and so their program was for four applications, two paid and supposedly two free. They also promised further applications if there were still weeds.
They had looked after my lawn for several years, with no results.
While I waited for them to come (2011), the dandelions flowered and set seed. I picked 5 full garbage bags of flowers and seed heads before they arrived in June.
I called them several times later, but nobody came. They called me several times for other services which I refused, and reminded them about the Fiesta.
Finally in mid October I called and cancelled the service. The next morning at 8 am the truck arrived.
I told the man that I had cancelled and that it was about to rain. It rained 2 hours later.
They eventually refunded half of the money paid, but I only received 1/4 of the sprays promised and certainly no extras!
I have over an acre -- certainly a property that they should want to keep as a customer.
I had several people call later, asking me why I had cancelled, and how could they keep me as a customer. They obviously don't keep good records.

As for "honey" working better, as I was getting more and more annoyed with each successive phone call, imagine how impressed I was with their consistant telephone greeting, "And how can we amaze you today"?

I have been using weed man for several years and have no complaints other than their reluctance to accept 'No' when I don't want a service. Recently I was approached by another organization 'SpringMaster' who I know nothing about. I checked with the BBB of Southwestern Ontario and couldn't find them listed. However, the BBB doesn't recognize the Weed Man as an accredited BBB business either. Why?
Comment by kswanton on Jun 18, 2010
The Scarborough office has a BBB rating of 'F' (the worst rating)

They typically don't even follow up with BBB complaints.
Comment by dustygal on Feb 12, 2012
They aren't registered in London, but the BBB has them rated as an "F", and they show the complaints.

Weedman has treated our lawn for two summers and there is absolutely not difference in the amount of weeds! I would not recommend them! They convinced us to come back to them this summer saying they could get rid of the weeds but there are even more weeds than before we paid for the service...Weedman is no Weedman at all...unless they mean your lawn will have lots of weeds if you go with their service! Very unhappy!

there are really good products available that are green. for example...ecoval makes a really good vinegar weed killer. very safe, and it works. the website is www.ecoval.ca
Comment by ecoval on Jun 16, 2009
this person is VERY uninformed, EcoClear is not a product used in lawns, it is used like Roundup. Weedman currently offers EcoClear as part of its lawn-care program. Check out EcoClear!
Comment by ksykes on Jun 16, 2009
That all natural spray is an acid based spray, anything you spray it on will surely kill it... and leave burn spots and it is only a band aid solution... what about the roots? you didn't forget the roots now did you? weed man does a good job they use sarritor which is an all natural organic weed control it is the most affective weed control available this year. and they do re applications of it for free to make sure all your weeds are gone... Are you watering your lawn as directions say? its important. if there are weeds left call the 1-866 number and let them know u want re applications for free and also they haven't even done both applications yet,

Uxbridge area, 2 years ago.
We started with our local Weedman back in 2002 and they were great. Unfortunately they sold to the Scarborough office a couple of years later and it was horrible the way the hounded us to add on services. One particular sales person was particularly hostile. I do not recommend them.
Comment by ksykes on Jun 16, 2009
Let me re assure you everyone is different now. and chances are it was a call from the head office. they don't add on selling... they tell you what the technicians recommend for your lawn. For example if you have a grub problem weed man will call you and recommend grub control.

Weed man is the number 1 company for a reason and they are professionals and when the recommend something for your lawn it is to take care of it.

I had an experience with Weed Man in Scarbourgh this summer/fall. I found them to be dishonest and unethical. Furthermore their Natures Touch product does not work. I would not recommned them to anyone. Stay away they are not reputable.
Comment by ksykes on Jun 16, 2009
Weed man has a program called natures touch which is the basic program consisting of 3 applications of fertilizer 2 applications of our all natural weed control called sarritor and mid summer inspection as well as a free fertilizer for chinch bugs and unlimited 24 hour service calls.

Now i know for a fact if you called the office they would re apply anything for free to make sure everything is running along smoothly

Also.... they are the number 1 company for a reason.

And still the best.

So you can find services cheaper... but you wont find better

thanks.

The Weedman has had a long run, but their customers, the media, and government regulators are getting wise to them.
CBC Marketplace (Feb. 10, 2012) did an excellent piece on them -- guaranteed to cost them business because of their many questionable practices!

In what respect are they #1?
BBB ratings of "F" might prove otherwise.

If you don't sign up to Weedman they will keep calling you and will drop the price substantially to get you to use their service. As much as $40 or $50 dollars lower for the same service as a neighbour.
Comment by ksykes on Jun 16, 2009
is they discount the price to make it more affordable for you

to be fair because i assume you were complaining about a price issue so they didn't want to lose you over price so they thought it would be a nice thing to do by negotiating a smaller price with a manager.

They call you because you SIGNED A WAVER FOR THEM TO.

A FREE ESTIMATE WITH A FALLOW UP CALL..

read what you sign for.

Customer service is non-existent. Following two years of very poor service and results, I cancelled the service. I subsequently received invoices for services I did not agree to. After numerous phone calls to rectify the situation, they continue to treat my lawn and send me bills. They have not kept records of all the conversations I have had with their customer service and have basically called me a liar. If they continue to harass me I will sue them and will put up a new post as to the outcome!
Comment by ksykes on Jun 16, 2009
If you called customer service 1866 number im sure you spoke to someone.

And told them what the problem was. before canceling

people often cancel the services before they are done and then they bad mouth weed man saying the services are crap and didn't work

WELL BEHOLD DIP SHIT IF YOU FUCKING WAIT IT OUT AND LET THE SERVICES FINISH IT WOULD WORK :)

HONESTLY... if people could get any dumber

Ksykes,
One thing that will really benefit your business is not responding to unhappy customers by calling them idiots and ignoring their complaints. You clearing work for the company as you are on the defence and use language like "our products". I somehow landed on this thread and started reading and I didn't necessarily know much about Weed Man but I can tell you one think your attitude towards your customers and how you deal with their complaints is not reassuring. I prefer to deal with businesses that care to provide me with the best service and take my complaints seriously. I know will be turned off from any weed man because of you. The internet has opened up various doors for business complaints so I would strongly advise that you educate yourself on how to handle internet complaints as an employee or owner of Weed Man.

Weedman sprayed on June 10 2008 on a winding day.
Needless to say, alot of damage was done. After many technician visits and many many waits in the que for phone calls with telecentre employees who know nothing.
Totally frustrated.
As of Oct 17,2008 full compensation has not been received.

When the previous owner had the francise, service was excellent.Since the Scarborough owners bought the Whitby franchise, Our 2008 lawncare program from weedman was horrible.. Don't waste your money on their Nature's choice organic program...it doesn't work at all to kill the weeds. Even their own staff admit it doesn't work. What a rip off.
Thanks to Dalton McGuinty and his stupid new ban on traditional weed sprays, none of us will have any grass left once the grubs take over anyway.

Weedman did nothing to my lawn. All the weeds are still there and they keep calling me to pay $40.00 or they will give me a bad credit rating. Please don't let them get you too. I don't want to pay but I also don't want to get a bad rating. I wish that these companies would stop harassing us on the phone.

BECAUSE YOU SIGNED A FUCKING WAVER FROM WEED MAN SAYING YES YOU CAN GIVE ME A FREE ESTIMATE AND YES YOU CAN CALL MY HOUSE TO FALLOW UP WITH THE ESTIMATE OR ANY ADDITIONAL SERVICES. DID YOU READ IT BEFORE SIGNING IT?

PROBABLY NOT. SO YOU CANT SIT THERE AND BITCH ABOUT WEED MAN DOING THERE JOB THAT YOU SIGNED ON THE DOTTED LINE FOR THEM TO DO...

REALLY?

AND THEN CANCELING THE SERVICES HALF WAY THROUGH THE PROCESS ISN'T GOING TO RESULT IN A WEED FREE LAWN IDIOT YOU HALF TO LET THEM FINISH THE FUCKING SERVICES.

SO NOW THEY ARE CHARGING YOU FOR THE SERVICE THEY DID DO TILL YOU CANCELED AND IF ANY IDIOT WOULD LET THERE CREDIT FUCK UP OVER A MEASLY 40$ IS A CHEAP BASTARD.

We used Weedman and they missed a huge back section of our backyard. We complained to them and told them we didn't want them back. They convinced us to let them redo the area again. Nothing changed. For over two years we asked them to stop calling us and I just received another call today! I found this site while looking for their mailing address so I can write a registered letter telling them to take us off their call list and never call us again. They don't listen and they do a crappy job! They aren't even worth the .5 star as a rating.

Weedman... Stop calling people who ask you not to call them anymore!

He obviously can't stand the truth -- a typical Weedman employee!
Most customers don't sign anything, and many have not agreed to services that have been done and charged to them.
The Weedman offices tape customer calls and interpret an agreement to get a quote as an agreement for the service.
Many people have said "NO", a word not recognized by the Weedman. The trucks went anyway, and charged for the service.
