Hallmark Card Shop, Ottawa Reviews (7)
The girls working in this location are fantastic people. Yes, they try hard to get you to buy more than you planned to, but that is what they are paid to do, and they're pretty good at it. They genuinely care about their customers, and want everyone to leave their store happy. Another reviewer stated that they are thieves, and try to ram sales down your throat. I don't think that could be further from the truth. If you have a problem with them trying to sell you more items, then politely tell them that, and they're happy to stop.
I highly recommend shopping here!

I always find everything I need at hallmark, great selection of gift ideas and gift wrap, cards
Once upon a time, this Hallmark store used to be one of my favourites - especially during the Xmas season!! But the last 3 years have proven a marked decline in this store location's overall rating. There are a number of legitimate complaints, concerns and as it proved today - THIEVES!!!!
The sales reps - and even the cashiers - literally ram every opportunity for a sale down your throat to the point where you're beyond choking!! I spent about 45 minutes shopping in Hallmark (downtown Ottawa: 183 Sparks Street) and spent over $120 (after taxes), and between the 2 sales reps that were working in the store at that time, they must've asked me if I found everything ok at least a dozen times!! Quite frankly, it was beyond annoyingly frustrating, not to mention that I found it quite rude to continuously keep getting interrupted by having some strange sales clerk get right up in your face and start asking the same inquiry for the umpteenth time!! I honestly wanted to either leave by way of immediately walking out of the store without buying any items, or simply turn my back on the sales rep ignoring her outright (perhaps then they'd get the hint eventually...?!?!??)
Oh but wait, my gripes are not over just yet!! Sparks Street Hallmark in Ottawa thought they'd either get away with being sneakily sly or presumed that I was simply straight out idiotic - either way, they are essentially lying thieves! While I was organizing my oversized purse in order to fit some of the items I purchased into it, the one cashier ringing through my many items suddenly called over the only other employee in the store at the time (I have no idea why, since a second employee was clearly NOT needed for merely ringing through my items at the cash! Not to mention that I was the ONLY CUSTOMER in the store at the time!)...The second employee started randomly chatting me about about everything and nothing, a anything she's could grasp onto long enough to blab about until the entire purchase was completed before I even had the chance to really realize and take a good look at the receipt (I usually like to examine the final bill to ensure accuracy and no duplicate charges, no over charges, all sales and discounts are honoured, no items are missing, etc.). By time I got home later that evening from work and finally unpacked all of my Hallmark goodies, I sat down and carefully went through the corresponding receipt (final bill) from earlier that afternoon. I checked items off one by one to ensure I got everything (a usual practice) at the correct prices, to ensure nothing was missing and that's when I officially noticed that I had been taken for a ride!! .......
They fully took advantage of me, distracted me, fooled me, manipulated me, cheated me, over charged me, made me pay for their purchases - whatever the heck you'd like to refer to it as, it's essentially all the same!! They (Hallmark) stole from me!! On my final bill (receipt), there are more than 3 items which I never bought, paid for nor received!! I feel so duped!! First thing tomorrow I'm returning to the Hallmark store located at 183 Sparks Street (Sparks Street Mall in Ottawa), and demanding both for a refund AND to speak with the Manager/Owner. This type of behaviour in the sales/customer service industry is absolutely abhorrent and unacceptable, not to mention unprofessional!! These 2 sales reps obviously have done txt before and hence have pretty much perfected the robbery thieving prices - from the initial distraction by innocent and friendly conversation right up to the sly and inconspicuous overcharging and duplicating of nonexistent items of whiCh you never even purchased (or looked at for that matter!!)
For the love of any good Hallmark stores still left out there, please please please avoid this awful horrid cheating one in Ottawa on 183 Sparks Street (Sparks Street Mall) near Rideau Shopping Centre downtown Ottawa, Ontario. I'd love to know what these two ladies (sales reps) names are, because I'd publish them online for everyone to see!!
Please protect yourselves!! :)

it would be extremely helpful if store hours could be advertised. I work on Sparks which is a wind tunnel so don't want to go traipsing there at 9:00 a.m. if the store only opens at 10:00 a.m.
in the Wellington Building (Sparks St)Just updated their address.
I work nearby, so I'm in the store all the time. Yes, like "non-member" says, they do have a sales pitch "Would you like stamps? Would you like tape? Would you like to hear about our promotion? etc." But the ladies working there are only doing their job, and I've always had great service when I need help with something there!
Keep up the good work!
Keep up the good work!
They have the best selection of South Park themed cards and mugs in the city of Ottawa.
I used to enjoy shopping at the Davis Agency on Sparks Street in Ottawa Ontario but since Fall 2008, everytime I enter the store I feel hounded to purchase something. An example of this is if I purchase a card, when I get to the cash I'm asked if I need postage stamps to mail it. I say know they ask, how about gift wrap or bows? I say no, I have some at home, then I hear, how about scotch tape then? I say no again then I hear would you like to hear about our current promotion? SIGH...
I no longer enjoy shopping at this location and when I mentioned it to some co-workers they say that other Davis Agency's are all the same. I realize that store clerks work on commissions but when people don't even want to enter the store their sales will be even lower.
I do not enjoy have a sale rammed down my throat and will not be visiting a Davis Agency store for a long time.
signed, a very unhappy shopper.
