We put 5 CWD (now under the name Plygem) wood windows in our home a couple of years ago. Worst reno mistake we ever made. These are terrible windows, the cold and wind comes right through them. Tired of the cold drafts in the bedrooms so we've started putting plastic window film over them. Imagine having new windows and having to cover them with plastic.
Don't make the mistake we made, avoid these windows at all costs.

These windows are crap. Don't buy them. The company does not stand behind their product. I have an $8000,000. house with duck tape on the windows as the rain is coming under them, the seal didn,t even last a few years. The dealer says too bad, we only cover the leaks if it is between the glass, great comfort to me as the water is running down the wall.
Not a member of BBB, no wonder!!
How do these guys stay in business??

Rain coming under the windows usually means that your installer goofed.

Replacing the old wooden ones with CWD was the best decision we made. At the time my hubby was w/o work so we installed all the windows ourselves, except the front large bay window and the windows by the back deck. We needed service on a couple of windows where there wasn't a proper seal and we received immediate service. No complaints here. We are now getting the old wooden bay window replaced using CWD without hesitation. Hurray we will be all done now!

Note: The back deck windows and door are from a local Calgary Window and Door Company, and we haven't received service back from them after several calls and several years of waiting. So what good is a warranty if you get no service?

We have highly recommended to our neighbors - CWD Windows and ordering through our local Totem.

Very Satisfied

We had 3 windows replaced under warranty (failed seals) and paid for a fourth window which cracked when a dramaic temperature change occurred. One very large and expensive window that was replaced under warranty was re-ordered 3 times due to incorrect measuring and wrong muntin layout. The third one was put in but the installer was not staisfied with the cut and was going to order a fourth window. After not hearing back from the manufacturer, I contacted them by phone and in person numerous times only to be told it would be replaced. Well, 10 years have passed and I have finally given up. As well, I have 4 more windows with failed seals but no longer any warranty. I will NEVER buy from this company again! By the way; I also have a 100 year old 2nd home with windows replaced 20 years ago and have never had a failure...different company.

I have built 3 homes and put doors and windows from CWD in each one of them. I had an outswing garden door replaced and had fantastic service. They came out right away to check out the problem with the garden door and had it replaced promptly. I am very impressed with the customer service I recieved from both the service department when I had an issue with my garden door and the sales representatives when I purchased the products. I would and have recommended CWD (Now Ply Gem) to anyone looking to have windows/doors installed.

We bought the top of the line CWD wood sliding terrace door and although the wood looks very nice there is a plastic strip around the fixed part of the door that constantly drips condensed moisture when the temperature is in the -5 to -15 degree range. Below -15 degrees or so the moisture starts to freeze gradually building up a layer of ice. There is a problem with this design! Buyer beware - there appears to be no way to contact the manufacturer to address this issue - they only have a sales contact no service. Our contractor says that the company refuses to acknowledge that this is an issue. I would highly recommend another manufacturer if you are looking for any windows or doors - especially wooden ones.

We built an Insulated Concrete Home and ordered CWD windows. They sent incorrect buck sizes. Each rough in buck was built and installed 4 inches to big. WHen the windows arrived on site the holes were way to big for the windows - on all 19 windows - not an easy fix in a concrete home! So frames had to be built up. Then the incorrect peel-n-stick product was used. Window bucks leaking and water coming in under the window along the floor - reps could not resolve problem - they told us how to solve the problem and it only made things worse. There has been alot of damage to our brand new home. NOw the stucco has to be cut off around every window to fix the problem. Who will pay this bill???

Go with Jeldwyn windows!!!

We bought all of our CWD triple pane, low E windows from Nelson Lumber in Slave Lake for our new house. We had doors that needed replacing and some doors and windows that needed adjusting and it was over 6 months before some one came to have a look. Then it took multiple visits before we got the right door. When it was finally put in there was a hardware failure that still has not been fixed. We installed casement windows through out the house and most of them are 3 feet or better high. They do not seal properly at the top of the windows and when the wind blows in a certain direction, it blows right past. We had our Nelson Lumber rep contact them numerous times and still have not heard from them. These are supposedly the best windows CWD makes in vinyl frame. I would not buy from CWD again or recommend them to anyone.
