Metro Grocery Food Stores
Bad Food and Bad Service at Metro Food Stores, Toronto. Canada.
(Also a review for the 3090 Bathurst St. location in Toronto)

Metro Grocery Food Stores is selling
food that is spoilt!
Customers should beware of buying any items,
that are on sale, at any Metro food stores.
The reason? More than likely it is spoilt.
That has been my experience personally,
on more than one occassion. Beware of buying
any "wet food" items, such as ice cream
or salad dressing etc. They are never "fresh".
Metro's Food Stores Slogan, "Food at its
best", is also, at best, misleading.
Besides having some very bad customer
service, their food is also bad.
Have you ever asked yourself, why this item
is on sale, in the first place?
Now you know why. Items on sale at this supermarket,
should also be checked for the expiration date
and also the freshness of its products. Do not rely
on the Metro Food Stores, to be honest and upfront,
about the "freshness" of its food items on sale.
You will learn the hard way, like I did.

I have been shopping at this location for the last eight years.. It was a Dominion for a number of years and now it is a Metro. I have always had good experiences shopping here. Until lastnight.
I was on the metro website yesterday and was researching prices of their fruit and cheese platters. Their website states "Order in-store. Visit your local store during regular store hours and with the help of our company representative, complete your easy-to-follow order form and arrange a date and time for pick-up"

I went to the deli counter and told the lady there that I wanted to order some fruit and cheese platters. She did not speak to me, she got an order form, handed it to me and walked away. I asked her for a pen to fill it out and she shrugged her shoulders and walked away from me to attend to the next customer.

So there I was, orderform in hand, with no way to fill it out. I looked around and saw some other people working near the hot food section so I asked them if they have a pen I can use to fill out this orderform. They guy looks at me, sighs, and says "Go to the customer service desk!" Well, my goodness.. I was in shock! Did he really just say that??

So I get to the customer service desk and there is a girl there but her back is turned away from me. I tried to get her attention by saying in a super sweet and gentle voice "excuse me can you help me?" I said this 4 times before she turned around and looked at me with a very irritated look on her face. I asked her if she had a pen that I could use to fill out the form to order the platters. She said "There is one right there on the counter" Like it was clear and plain to see... it was not. I filled out the form and asked the customer service girl where I submit the form. She looked at me with that same irritated look and said "You have to take this back to the deli" By this time I just couldn't believe that 3 people were really THAT Rude!, I was in complete shock at the lack of customer service..

I go back to the deli counter and in my sweetest voice I said "HI there, I have filled out the form" She took the form from me smiled and asked one of her co-workers what she was supposed to do with the form..(not in english) but I knew what she was saying. She then tore off the customer copy of the form and handed it back to me. I said "Will it be ready for Thursday?" She nodded and smiled and I walked away thinking... I am not getting my platters on Thursday at noon am I? That was a fiasco!! sooo... we will see what happens tomorrow at noon.. bet's anyone?

Dominion is known for being a higher quality higher price grocery store. This location ruins this reputation all by itself. Aside from the street level loading doc that smells of rotten meat and food and blows all summer at high speed onto Yonge Street, permanently causing a passer by to smell like garbage.

Inside its nice, usually very clean, the meat department leaves something to be desired it’s very small and tends to be under stocked.

Bakery is awesome

Produce is OK

Not what I’d expect from Dominion.

This location is clean , open 24 hour, and walking distance from my place. All those things make it so I shop there, but there are also some negatives.

As any dominions location the prices are much higher then other grocery stores a short distance further. Also when they put on their "sales" they basically lower their prices to only 5% higher then food basics, or another discount location, for the same brand name products.

However, particular to this location there is a serious problem for the public passing by. Their loading docks are facing Yonge st. and in the summer heat anyone taking a stroll down the street need to plug their nose for about a minute.

There should be some sort of by-laws about creating such a foul odor. If they had planned the layout a little better they could have avoided this problem and saved many pleasant strolls down Yonge street.
