Nellie's Hostel Abuses Women.
Nellie's Hostel, for abused women and children, is a long way from being a safe place for all women. Its internal policy of keeping on abusive staff, also do not benefit the women and their children, who are housed there. Especially, those coming from a violent and abusive background. Not only are there reports of Nellie's staff, abusing women at the shelter, but they also allow the abuse of residents, by other residents, at the shelter. Nellies' internal policy do not allow for the immediate firing of those staff. They stay on for years and continue with the abuse. It's hard to believe, that this is happening at a shelter, which is suppose to protect women, coming from abuse and violence. The abuse of choice at Nellie's Hostel, is verbal and emotional abuse, by the staff. Including, intimidation and threats of expelling women from the shelter, who might report on their actions. Women often do not make complaints against those staff, for the fear of reprisal...

Not only are there reports of Nellie's staff, abusing women at the shelter, but they also allow the abuse of residents, by other residents, at the shelter. Nellies' internal policy do not allow for the immediate firing of those staff. They stay on for years and continue with the abuse. It's hard to believe, that this is happening at a shelter, which is suppose to protect women, coming from abuse and violence. The abuse of choice at Nellie's Hostel, is verbal and emotional abuse, by the staff. Including, intimidation and threats of expelling women from the shelter, who might report on their actions. Women often do not make complaints against those staff, for the fear of reprisal acts by them. Both types of abusers at Nellie's Hostel, in Toronto, meaning those staff and also those women, who prey on other women at the shelter, also form friendship bonds, between them. Each protecting the other. Those women will not be discharged, by Nellie's staff. And neither will those staff at the shelter, who also engages in the abuse of residents, be dismissed by the Executive Director, Marguirita Mendez. It is a well kept secret, hidden away from the knowledge, of Nellie's donors and even its Board of Directors. Donors simply give to Nellie's Hostel, without asking how that shelter for abused women and children, also takes steps to end the cycle of abuse, against those women. If it believes Nellie's written policy, used to get money from the public, then Nellie's Hostel donors, are in for a great shock, at how their money and other resources, are being used to actually continue with the abuse of those women. And by Nellie's Hostel's very own staff!.
Here are some of the policies at Nellie's Hostel, that should be changed.
1. Nellie's security alarm did not work for days, at a time. Like all shelters for abused women and their children, Nellie's security alarm was put in place to protect the residents of the shelter. However, Nellie's alarm system do not always work. A staff was overheard saying to a co-worker, that she knew the alarm was not working, but that she could not be bothered to get up and go look into it.
2. Nellie's regularly break fire code regulations. And currently, Nellie's is also under investigation, by the Toronto Fire Services, over those fire code violations. Keep in mind, that Nellie's also just had a recent fire in July ( 2016), that has caused some internal damage to the building. And there are also very young children, (as young as a week old), currently, living at Nellie's shelter. Margarita Mendez, has told her front line staff, NOT TO ENFORCED, the fire code regulations, by giving those residents a warning for breaking it. Another of Nellie's staff, Lillian Namukasa, was quoted as saying, that, " it's not that serious of a breach, to open the fire doors, to let in the fresh air". The fire doors are left opened, both day and night, by some of the residents who are also friendly with the staff. Fire doors are to remain closed to separate the different floors and also to prevent the spreading of a fire (and the smoke and the carbon monoxide, that also goes with it) to the other floors. It's a wonder no one also died in the recent fire, at Nellie's in July, with that kind of thinking, from Nellie's staff. Margarita Mendez, has directly told her staff, not to give those residents who breaks it, any warnings. Thus, further endangering the safety, of all of the women and their children, at Nellie's Shelter for abused women.
3. Nellies Staff, taking food away from the women and children, who lives at the shelter. (Nellie's staff, will feed themselves first and take home food, before the women and children are served, with the food). One mother has complained, that there wasn't enough food left to feed her child, at Nellie's Hostel, after the staff were done feeding themselves first). (This is a true story that was told to me, directly, from that mother). They also take other things, like some items of donations, that are also intended for the women and children, at the shelter.
4. Nellie's staff will verbally and emotionally abuse women and then later conspired among their fellow co-workers, to cover up the abuse. The majority of Nellie's staff, including the following staff, Cecilia, Julie, Hawa, Patience and Maureen, participates the abuse of the women at Nellie's Hostel, in one form, or the other. It included both comments and actions from those staff, which are also designed to degrade the women, being abused by them.
5. Some of Nellie's staff, are also culpable in the acts of fraud, committed by some of the residents, who claim abuse and homelessness and who stay on at Nellie's for close to a year, or even longer. In almost all of the cases, involving the abuse of women, by other women at the shelter, those women who abused other women, are often there for, far longer than they should. They are also allowed to stay at Nellie's for so long, because of their relationships, with Nellie's front line staff. As long as they're on good terms with those staff, who are just as unethical as they are, those women are allowed to stay at Nellie's. And far from their minds, is the fact that other women, who really need a place to stay and who are fleeing violence and abuse, has no place to go, because those selfish women, who stay on for 9 months and longer, are also holding up the beds, unnecessarily. And while doing so, are also abusing other women at the shelter.
6. Children at Nellie's Shelter, are forced to deal with the issue of transgender women, who live among them. (transgender women, are males with a penis, who identifies as a woman). Transgender women are also known to be prone to violent outbursts and are very abusive to both the residents and staff alike. This should not surprise anyone, as most of them do not take any hormone replacement, and has the same amount of testosterone, as other males who are functioning as men. Transgender women, with a penis, share the same bathroom and sleeping space, with other women, at Nellie's Shelter. And for some women, such as Muslim women, whose religion forbids such kinds of interactions, they have to live with this arrangement at Nellie's Shelter and cannot express their opinions about it. It's a cause for immediate dismissal, to refer to a transgender woman as a "male", at Nellie's. Despite the fact that they still have a penis. And they also seem to have the best of both worlds. That of being physically a male, but living as a woman.
The bottom line, is that Nellie's shelter for abused women, should also stop abusing women. No matter what forms that abuse may take. And Margarita Mendez, as the Director for Nellie's, is behind all of it. It is time for this woman to go. Along with the rest of Nellie's abusive staff.
Stop and think, before you give your money and other donations, to Nellie's Hostel.

Margarita Mendez's real agenda at Nellie's Hostel, is to Promote Transgenderism, at the Hostel. And that is why other women at the shelter, are also immediately dismissed, if they questioned this policy. Should Margarita Mendez forced this upon the children at Nellie's Hostel?. Who must deal with living with a male who only identifies with being a female, but in every other way, is still physically a male?. Know what your donation dollar supports, at Nellie's Hostel. Does it supports the care of abused women and their children?. Or forcing them to accept other social issues, at the shelter, that they were not told about, or prepared to accept?.
Nellie's Hostel, under the Executive Director, Margarita Mendez, promotes the issue of Transgenderism, and that's a fact. Abused women at Nellie's Hostel, are dismissed immediately, no questions asked, if they so much as speak out about that issue. There is a trend at Toronto hostels for women, and even the ones with children, like Nellie's Hostel, to have transgender males, living among the women, (though still physically males), and the women are not allowed to say anything about it. Why should the Executive Director, of Nellie's Hostel, Margarita Mendez, forced other women with children, who are staying at the shelter, to accept transgender males, living and sleeping with them and their children and can't complain about it?. At no time at all, though those transgender identifies as females, do they stop acting as males. They're aggressive towards the women and their children and many other women at the shelter, like those who are Muslims, are also forced to share a sleeping bedroom, at Nellie's Hostel, with transgender males, who identifies as females. Years ago, the excuse was that the government would not pay for the operation, for them to transition from males to females. Now they don't even bother with the operation at all. Transgender males, who identifies as females, DO NOT GO TO MALE SHELTERS, in Toronto. One lame excuse being used, was that they would face abuse from the men, at those male shelters, so they are dumped in women shelters, including the ones with children. And that is also fine with those shelters like Nellie's Hostel, which housed abused women and their children, to forced those children, to deal with the issue of tranasgenderism. This is a very serious issue and the next time that you want to donate to Nellie's Hostel for abused women, think of this fact. What is the real agenda behind Margarita Mendez, forcing abused women and their children, to accept males living among them, at the Nellie's Hostel.
