Acceptable Pub Fare

We visited the Rum Runner on what we presume was a slow night (there was a blizzard) so it is hard to say how much our experience varied from an average night.

The interior was relatively nice for a pub, though it was underground so there were no windows. The staff was friendly but the service was nothing exceptional.

As for the food, it seemed like their standard pub food and appetizers were pretty good. The perogi entree was also quite tasty. However, I would advise against ordering any of the more 'fine dining' options on the menu as they are generally mediocre and not worth the price. It is probably also worth passing on their caesar salads, as we ordered two and one was served drowning in dressing while the other was nearly bone dry.

Overall the Rum Runner seems like a nice place to go for drinks and a bite with friends, but definitely not for a sit down dinner.

Comfortable Family Dining

Having driven past Fireside many times, we were curious what a "Deli & Family Restaurant" would have to offer. We were quite pleasantly surprised.

Fireside has a spacious dining room and quick, attentive servers. The menu offers a large range of options, and prices are quite reasonable for this area.

The food we tried ranged from perfectly acceptable to quite good. Many of the basic dishes, such as rice and chicken, were under-seasoned. The chicken tenders, in particular, were over breaded and bland. However, most of these items were served with a flavourful homemade sauce of some kind, which made up for it.

Our favourites were the caesar salad, which had a lovely dressing, and the BBQ baby-back ribs which were cooked perfectly and came with a delicious BBQ sauce.

Overall, we we definitely be eating at Fireside again.

Hardly Fine Dining

After reading many positive reviews on other sites, I was excited to eat here - only to be very disapointed.

Casa Rugantino is a TINY restaurant, which might be okay in the summer, but is terrible in the winter. It means that almost every table in the place is right by the door and your dining experience will be periodly interrupted by a cold breeze. If you do decide to go, I suggest you wear layers.

The food itself ranges from good to embarassing. My companion had a perfectly acceptable pasta and cream sauce and their bolognese was also good (though nothing spectacular).

In addition to the pasta we were served burnt bread and "Caesar salad". The salad consisted of a pile of lightly dressed romaine lettuce and powdered (cheap) parmesan. No croutons, no red onion, no bacon. Considering the price of a meal here, and how few customers they have to serve, they could certainly stand to put a little more effort into such an Italian restaurant staple!
