Three times Hyundai replaced the tranny in my new 2011 Elantra Touring and each one lasted about 55,000 kms. But when the third one gave out at 167,000, Hyundai refused to help. There was no consideration given to an obviously faulty design: their bottom line was "Too far past warranty."


I didn't want to pay them for a "new" one for fear of just having to do it all over again every two or three years, so I went to several places looking for an alternative. Some didn't even check the dipstick. it was all cut and dried in two minutes flat: gamble on the wrecker for $800 plus $600 installation or get the faulty one rebuilt at three times the price or even more. But the maximum black book value of the whole car in perfect condition was only $4800.


But Skyway was different: Eric spent most of an hour at no charge investigating and diagnosing. But in the end he said he still had to take it apart to know exactly what to do. So what now?...
