Rogers Global Credit Collection Scam-...

I paid my final Rogers Wireless bill years ago. I confirmed with Rogers representative that they got the final payment and I was assured on that phone call that I owed no other money to the company. I was glad to get rid of a ridiculous company that I practically had to phone monthly because they overcharged me. I signed up with one of their affiliates on a family plan and every month the bill was not reflective of the family plan.

After I paid my Rogers bill I never received any notification that I owed anything, because I didn't.

Global Credit Collection sent me a letter threatening me on a bill I have paid years ago and that Rogers acknowledged and never sent me any further correspondence that I owed anything.

This is a fraudulent company who seems to have obtained a list of past Rogers customers trying to con us out of money we don't owe.

Government Actions

The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.

On May 18, 2012, the Government of Alberta (Service Alberta) issued an Undertaking to Global Credit & Collection Inc under Section 152 of the Fair Trading Act.

According to the Undertaking, Global Credit & Collection Inc acknowledges that it has breached sections of the Collection and Debt Repayment Practices Regulation. Some examples are as follows:

- Failing to advise the Director of Fair Trading within 15 days of the cessation of employment collectors.
- Engaging in collection action when there was no debt due and owing.
- Initiating phone calls that exceed the frequency permitted in the regulations.
- Not ceasing collection activity after being informed that the person contacted was not the debtor and failing to take reasonable precautions to ensure that the person was in fact the debtor.
- Contacting employers for purposes other than to confirm employment status, business title and the address of the business in preparation for legal proceedings.
- Communicating information about the debt or the existence of the debt to persons other than the debtor, a guarantor of the debt, the debtor's representative or the creditor of the debt without the express consent of the debtor.
- Engaging in collection activities on debts where the last payment or written acknowledgement of the date was more than six years previous.

Global Credit & Collection Inc admits that it has failed to comply with the provisions of the Fair Trading Act and undertakes to the Director that it will not, to the best of its ability, at any time hereafter, engage in acts or practices similar to those described.

Global Credit & Collections Inc is responsible to pay the amount of $20,000.00 to the Minister of Finance of Alberta. This amount represents a portion of the costs associated with the investigation.
