Vendors beware. - People skills less...
Rules for being an ouside vendor at Trattoria Cafe Italia 254 Preston Street. Ottawa, Ontario
1. Bring a shovel. (The side walk is 10 feet wide and they don't care that you'll have to trudge through 4 feet of snowbank whilst carrying all of your gear, they are not going to let you load in through the much easier back entrance)
2. Be prepared to pay a hefty fine and or be yelled at by passing motorists as you'll be blocking traffic at a busy intersection. (Again, they didn't care they are not going to open that back door for you.)
3. Bring a table
4. Bring a table cloth. (Yes they feel it's your responsibility to bring both of these.)
4. Bring a chair. (You certainly won't be offered one)
5. Get a pair of those little booties repairmen wear in your house or they will yell at you for getting their floors wet and dirty.
6. Do not park in their parking lot. (why on earth would you think that it would be okay to park there?)
7. Do not use the washroom before the guests arrive. (they are clean for the guests not you)
8. Be prepared to be berated, yelled at, blamed for just about anything.
9. Do not touch anything that belongs to them (See number 8)
10. Don't expect them to accommodate you in any shape or form. (You are a nuisance and should refrain from asking for anything Or even speaking for that matter. Breathing may or may not be tolerated I haven't quite ascertained that yet.
11 Do like me and refuse to ever work there again under any circumstances.
The following are excerpts from actual customer reviews posted on Yelp, TripAvisor, Zomato, Google etc. I think the is a very clear pattern here.
-The big guy who runs the place... boy is he ever a condescending %$^# with his employees. For that reason alone... I would not go back there. It makes me uncomfortable to see someone treat their employees in such a manner. Small "you know what" syndrome?
-We had to seek out the owner. He clearly was not paying attention to his patrons.
-Management Reneges. On arriving at the restaurant we were told the reservation for 24 which had been arranged with the owner was not being honoured.
-Manager is a liar. If he had changed his mind about our reservation, he could have at least called us back to let us know he wouldn't accommodate us. Really sleazy business. We now despise the Caffe Trattoria and their deceitful, unapologetic management, and will never return.
-this place is going down hill and the owners are not nice to their staff at all.
-we stood there for 5 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge us, while we watched people entering the restaurant after get served first (they seem to know the owner).
-The servers look like they aren't have a good time. Not surprised because we were sitting near the door and one of the owners was hostessing, and he never had anything good to say to anyone that was working there. Barking at everyone all the time.
-I doubt we would return there as we were treated as if we were too demanding.
-The manager/owner treats everyone like crap which ruins the entire atmosphere.
-The man who seated us stood only a few feet away clearly observing that we had not been served but not bothering to do anything about it.
-The owner was rude and very disrespectful to his staff. Will definately not return.
-the waitress was sweet, but his boss looked like a one unprofessional boss.
-It also was alarming to see the owner/manager nagging one of his waitresses during our visit. I do not recommend.
-the owner (Dom) was very rude.
-The host or manager who greeted us with a hostess was not welcoming and after some kind of hand wave off gesture and a table over there comment walked away without a word.
-A question on the bill at the end of the meal resulted in a manager being called who treated us with obvious condescension.
-The food was ok until we saw a chubby guy who seemed to be a manager of some sort, scratching his butt then picking up peoples plates. He never went to wash his hands or anything. I am quite disgusted by this as its completley disgusting
-I've witnessed the management being rude with their staff on several occasions, which leads me to ask: Where's l'amore?
