Excellent Customer Service

What could have been a horrendous experience was saved to be a minor inconvenience because of the discretion showed by the service rep at DVNT. I took a chance, almost 8 years ago, when I bought a Hybrid. It seemed like a good idea at the time. "But the battery technology is unproven", I was told. It's a risk, for sure, but with an 8 year full warranty on the hybrid battery and Toyota's track record, I took the chance.

So, just months before the 8 years, and 40km over the coverage threshold, my battery needed replacement. This is such a rare occurrence that the service advisors at DVNT said they could count on one hand the number of times it has happened, and usually it's with a Prius used as a shuttle. To repair this is over $4,000. Hardly worth the investment on an 8 year old car, and then the car essentially becomes worthless for sale, since no-one would want to invest that kind of money into an 8 year old car.

So, the battery died on a...

Small portions, pretentious management

We tried Mideastro (again) since we had a Groupon. Everyone, it seemed, was there with a groupon. Even with it, the prices are high and the portions small. Very small. After a meal for over $100 I was still hungry when I left. The food and service was not bad. So, if you're looking to spend a lot for a little bit of food, be my guest. What got me was the manager who refused to fix the bill when it had a mistake on it. He brushed me off saying that the computer did it, and he couldn't fix it. I was overcharged by $4.00. The amount isn't the point - it's that a manager of a "classy" place wouldn't fix the mistake.

Unforgiveable experience & customer...

Well, we went back to Wildfire because we did want to try the food again. The appetizer selection was really good, and the service also very good. However, on this visit, we had a very unpleasant experience, made even more unpleasant by the lack of follow-up by the manager.

We're sitting at a table in front of a wine cabinet. Towards the end of our dinner, they asked us to get up so they could retrieve an $800 bottle of wine for another guest. We had to interrupt our meal, and stand up in the middle, for not 30 seconds, not 2 minutes but 7 minutes, while several staff physically moved our table, placed bottles of wine on our table while searching for the "expensive" one at the back, until they finally got it. My food obviously got cold, and the whole experience was ruined.

Did they try to make it up to us, or comp us for any of the meal or dessert? No. After we paid the bill they gave us a doggie bag with a chocolate tart to take home for the trouble....

Excellent!

We took advantage of the Prix Fixe Savour York region menu to give Stonefire a try. The shrimp cocktail was outstanding, the veal parmesan and pasta delicious, and the portions were more than adequate. Even the children's pasta was a good size portion. The Asian stirfry was also very fresh and tasty. The only problem is that because the food is so good and the menu so varied, it'll be a dent in the pocketbook because we want to go back and try so many other dishes. I've got me eye on a pizza, maybe the ravioli... oh too many to choose from.

Excellent in all respects

Open for just a few months, the Thornhill location exceeds in every category. Except space to put all the customers. Likely, the only complaint will be the wait, as more and more people find the food to be high quality and reasonably priced, and the service excellent. The portions are generous, and so far we've tried pasta dishes with rapini (lots of it), shitake mushrooms, and all the other good stuff. We've also tried the veal, chicken, salad, soup (homemade and not salty), pizza, risotto, and bruschetta. Top marks every time. The only thing missing from the menu is chicken parmesan.

We highly recommend you visit, but come early (before 6:00 PM) or you'll be in for a wait. They don't take reservations.

Great food, great service, great value

We eat at Maki Sushi on average once a week, (I'm embarrassed to say sometimes more than that). Sometimes we go for the all you can eat menu, which is a better value Sunday through Thursday since weekends are charged at a higher price, but the menu is the same.

If you order all you can eat, experiment. There's so much to choose from, even if you don't like sushi. We just discovered a new item (the dumplings) a year after we started eating there! if you order a la carte, there is good value, and a family of 4 can eat for under $50.

The food is excellent, the variety outstanding, the service is excellent, and the management very accommodating. It is often busy, so if you go at peak times, expect a wait or make a reservation.

I recommend the chicken, salmon, eggplant teriyaki, the typical Japanse fare, the Maki salad, the seaweed salad .. everything is yummy. The BBQ beef ribs are like Miami...

Oh my goodness, you have just discovered Gyoza?

Gyoza can be pan fried, deep fried, filled with beef or vegetarian. I have to say, my favorite gyoza is at Sushi Susi across the street from my work, they tempura the gyoza and then deep fry it. Mmmm so yummy.

Not Impressed

They have a promotion: on Mondays kids eat free. It's even advertised on their website (http://www.bestchickenwings.com/comingsoon) and was advertised on the TV in the restaurant. We ordered a kid's meal. On a Monday. But the server told us their restaurant (just opened) wasn't set up for that promotion yet. Well, IMHO they should have honoured their own advertising, even if they couldn't figure out how to punch it into the register.
Strike One.
Then the wings came and although I think they're over-priced at $22 for 20 wings, I guess that's not so out there for people used to eating such fare. Soft drinks at $2.50 also pushes the limits for me. But the wings were not prepared correctly. For a wing place, the wings have to be properly coated (evenly) all over. The wings were simply not coated in the sauce (except for the Honey Garlic variety). There was just a bit of sauce drizzled on top of one side. The underside had absolutely no sauce. To me, this...

I've been to the Wild Wing in Unionville and it was delish!! So sorry you didn't have a good experience at the Thornhill location.

Good food and good value

Well, here's another angle on the same visit. We did indeed dine with debsil, and I wouldn't be nearly as harsh.

Yes - we were seated at 8:30, and for some reason, the appetizers didn't arrive. This is one of those restaurants where the server places the order and expects the food to be delivered at the appropriate time. For some reason, they didn't arrive, and as soon as we brought it to our server's attention, they came almost immediately. That was shortly after 9:30.

After that however, the main courses did arrive in a timely manner, and comp-ing our table a $45 bottle of wine, in my opinion, more than makes up for the initial delay.

As to the food, picky as I am, I was quite pleased. The regular menu prices weren't that much higher than the Summerlicious menu (for my dish), so I just went with the regular menu so I could choose an appetizer of my choice.

The organic salad was very nice, if a little light on the...

Excellent food

We hadn't been to this location for a few years. But we heard it had improved and gave it another chance.

We were pleased to find the selection ENORMOUS, and the quality EXCELLENT. The food was hot and fresh, declicious, and they had a few items on the menu that were not on the menu at my previously visited location. The Baby Bok Choy in garlic ... scrumptious. The pizza - better than most pizza places.

5 stars all the way, Mandarin!
