Do not use this company to move
Do not use this company. Their service is terrible. A big ripoff. On April 21, 2017 - 3 employees of Canadausvanlines came to my house in Lac La Biche, AB to load our belongings to move them to Calgary. They could barely speak any English. They were in a big hurry to get the truck loaded. We were called the day before and told that the truck would arrive between 8 and 10 am. Then an hour or so later we were called again and told that they needed to take the truck for a building inspection in the morning and would arrive between 11 am and 2 pm. We had all of our boxes packed as well as having taped up all dresser drawers so they wouldn’t fall open when being moved. Shortly after the crew started loading the truck I noticed that our Oak coffee table had been put into the truck with no blankets wrapped around it and was resting on some patio chairs. I told one of the men that we didn’t want our furniture all scratched up, and asked if they were able to wrap blankets around the furniture. After this they covered the tops of the dressers and tables with some bubble wrap.
I was also appalled when they started unloading our belongings the next morning. They requested full payment before they started unloading anything. I have no idea how accurate the final weight I was charged is. I think I was charged for close to double of what actual weight really was. We had sold about a third of our furniture before moving and had already hauled most of my tools and items in shed to Calgary with our trailer. There were very few heavy items left. We had all of our boxed marked as to what room they should go into as well as boxes containing food and kitchen things. They used a dolly and just put boxes and furniture all over the house. Some household items were put into the shed and several boxes marked shed were put into the house as were our patio furniture. Then when the truck was empty they did not take off any of the bubble wrap so that we could properly inspect the furniture. They were in a major hurry to get back on the road. Later when we removed the bubble wrap we noticed the chips broken off of the dresser and headboard.
We felt that not only was some of our furniture damaged during the move but that we also were overcharged for the move. The moving crew was very unprofessional. When I moved to Lac La Biche from Lethbridge 4 years ago, the moving company wrapped up every piece of furniture and belonging in a blanket. They also had blankets and things that they put in each doorway so as not to damage any walls or doors. The crew from this company was very rough with everything and made several marks on walls and doorways.
We filed a complaint with the company for damages. We were told it would take about 2 weeks to process. After about a month of not hearing from them we contacted them. they said a decision had been made on our claim. We had not taken out any extra insurance for damages, they said. ( Not sure if we were offered any ) They said that the deductible was $350.00 They estimated damage to be about $300.00 so no claim. However, they said for goodwill they would give us a refund of $100.00. We would not recommend anyone to use this company for moving. It was a horrible experience for us.
