Good Ambiance, Mediocre Fare
Conveniently located on Charles Street, just south of Yonge St./Bloor St., 7-West offers an intimate environment for moderately priced food and drinks. Upon arriving, one must "seat yourself" - though this isn't made abundantly clear - and decide whether to stay on the main floor or start trekking up to the 2 other levels offered. Once seated, the service was fairly quick. I ordered a "7-West Homemade Burger" with a side Caesar salad. I must say that the burger was disappointing - very dry and the "special house sauce" was merely a mediocre french dressing. The Caesar salad was also nothing to write home about. The girlfriend decided on their pesto "pizza", which I thought was also disappointing (though she seemed to enjoy it).

Finally, the bill came - we paid - and when we received our change came what I thought was a controversial surprise: the waiter noticed that he forgot to charge us for a can of pop so along with our change was a second bill, for the can of pop. I pose the question to you: is this proper etiquette? Obviously the waiter had the right to recoup the $2.50 for the can of Diet Coke (yes, $2.50) but is it really proper for him to have done so after we paid our bill? Anyway, comment away on that one!
Notwithstanding this "controversy", which I swear has no bearing on the sum of my star rating, I believe that 7-West is a convenient locale to take a date for a drink or grab a coffee - but I would not recommend going with high hopes of good food.

Sounds like it doesn't even deserve 3 stars. Looks nice on the outside though. I would have taken the $2.50 out of his tip!
You know, Ruth, you just echoed my sentiments exactly.
Dudebrah, I think you're an upstanding guy, especially since you were so generous with the 3 star rating!
I say if the waiter 4got to charge you, shame on him! That's just really tacky coming back with a second bill after you paid.
It could've been handled ever so much more tactfully.
I wouldn't have had a problem in the least if the waiter had come up to me & said "Listen, I forgot to charge you for the pop. If it was up to me, I'd say forget about it but..." I would've paid no problem.
Buuuuuttttt....the classy thing to do really would've been for the waiter to say "Listen, I forgot to charge you for the can of pop. Don't worry about it, it's on me! Have an awesome evening!"
Had that happened, they would've made a customer for life out of me,just becuz of the way that snafu could've/should've been handled.
If it had been an entire meal, then I could possibly see trying to recoup their losses BUT really....2.50$?
I don't think they're worried about trying to maintain anyone's patronage with that kind of behaviour.
However, these are just my thoughts. I've been wrong before :)
Thanx for sharing this with us. I do know that after reading your review Dudebrah, I won't go there to eat.
I suggested taking it out of his tip, but the girlfriend resisted!
