Over a year and a half ago, I had Simply Green install a new furnace and water heater into my house. I won't go into the story, but it was a chaotic disaster that took quite a bit of emails and calls to get a solution, that involved a threat of fines for improper installation, and a motor that was so noisy that you couldn't sleep. This was all happening in Dec and Jan when temperatures in this area get to below -40 at times! Everything was resolved to my satisfaction, but I knew that I would have trouble trusting them in the future.
Jump to today. I called to find out what I had to do to get my furnace cleaned. I am on a rental program and when I signed up, I was told that someone would come out once a year to clean and check the furnace. When I asked about that service today, I was told that I had a warranty program and not a maintenance program and that getting my furnace cleaned and serviced, was NOT PART OF MY RENTAL AGREEMENT. Then the gentleman told me that as long as I changed my filter every TWO YEARS, I would be fine. OK, clearly this guy is an idiot--a filter in a furnace for two years would be so filthy as to be useless and hazardous, and anyone who deals with furnaces knows that filters have a MUCH shorter shelf life in a furnace. He also told me that I would have to sign up for a maintenance plan (at an additional cost) to what I am already paying monthly to have the furnace.
He then told me to find someone in town to check and clean the furnace. Of course, if anything happens while they do it, it could void the warranty that I have on the furnace!!!
So, I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. Simply Green needs to stand behind the service that they said that they would provide. I want some peace of mind in knowing that my furnace is clean and in good working order and I don't want to have to pay someone else to do the job!
I had another issue and Simply Green again used a local Thunder Bay furnace installer/repairman to do the work. He looked at the pipes (which shouldn't have been part of the issue) and said that they were not supposed to vent into the basement and they were not up to code. He wasn't willing to give them a red tag, but he said that they would have a month to fix the issue or he would shut down the furnace--in January!! They sent him back to fix THEIR mistake and he realized that the pipe was GLUED to the furnace.
Since I was not obviously getting what I had been told I would get--24/7 service, for example, I decided to buy the furnace and hot water heater. But, you can see from my comment added to this post, I was dubbed when I signed the contract. I didn't sign a 7 year rent to own, but instead, it seems I locked myself in for 15 years...at a cost that far surpasses what the equipment would ever be worth, even if it had to be totally replaced!! I want out of this nightmare; they want to steal me blind. Run the other way until they can figure out how to deal with their customers fairly and honestly.

I am not trying to get out of the contract with this company as I have found out that I am locked into a FIFTEEN year rental agreement when I thought I was in a seven year rent to own agreement. The contract, it seems, has a line in it that states that the contract is for 180 months...Funny, the salesperson who sold me the equipment didn't tell me that part, nor was I told that I was signing up to be owing the money to a financial company that I had no contact with or no knowledge of! Now as I try to end this nightmare, I was told by Simply Green that I would have to pay them $15000!!!! It seems that I have to buy out the 15 year rental agreement....This company may be trying to go legit, but in my books, they are still one to avoid at all costs!!
I am now trying to get out of the contract...seems I can't correct once I post...
