Julie
Hello,
My star rating is for the first impression only.....I will update it after the event !!
My sister has recently booked the Grand Victorian for her 2011 wedding.
She has been dealing with Danny. Personally, he seems a little shaddy at first, but the more she spoke to him, I could tell he was very excited about the facility and in making the wedding day a special and memorable one. He is passionate about the venue, the food and the service. He offers many ideas. He is not pushy and lets you know its up to you he is just offering his thoughts. I am sure he has seen alot and knows what works.
The DJ cost is a little much, but taking into account that teh DJ booth is out of sight above the floor level is a bonus. Personally, I hate speakers in my ear when sitting right next to a floor level DJ booth. Loud music throughout dinner is a BIG N NO ! Dinner is a time to get to know those around you. Loud speakers takes away from that...

Loud speakers takes away from that intimacy of being at a wedding NOT A CLUB ! The extra money is worth the in house DJ service. The venue offers a tasting before you wedding. You knwo what you are getting and you can always make in known that it is exactly what you want or not. Change it. Try it again until its perfect. Why go into it blind. Food is as important as the venue. If someone offers you steak and you get roast beef don't pay for it. Get that in the contract. You have a right to get what you pay for. Ask questions, get it on paper always. No matter what you are booking, buying or selling. A contract is a contract. Read it.
The only dislike about the venue is the exterior grounds. It could use for a some landscaping, parking lot smoothing and removal of that aweful horse and carriage statue out front. Its takes away from the beauty of the venue's interior. Its more like a sleepy hollow looking statue rather then a cinderella one !! REALLY get rid of it !!!!
The cost is great for what my sister is getting. But, she is getting 75% of the hall. The other portion is booked by another wedding. This allows for full capacity so the venue is making as much as a single room hall would be making if not more. It holds more people then most single room halls do. He is not loosing by dropping the cost.
Also, I have heard many great things about the hall and service since Danny has taken over. He could learn to be a little more customer service friendly. Its great that he is really passionate about the hall ect, but he should be as passionate for those who want to book the venue. Afterall, its these types of reviews that make it or break it not his passion for the venue. I'll take his job any day and make the first impression even that much more pleasant !
