Getting them to do the reno's...
I promise that I will write a review once I am fully moved in.
The place I am moving into is at such a great location and the super told me that the cleanup wasn't final and will be done before my move in date. To say the least, I wasn't impressed with what I saw, but knowing the competition for apartments and the usual lengthy application process to get one, even a slum can get filled pretty quickly, owners and operators know this fact very well and many of them use this fact to take shortcuts on their reno's. I also knew very well that some managers will not want to keep a tenant who complains about the condition of their dwelling. Making that complaint to the upper management of Metcap and backing it up with pictures to me was very scary, but I also knew that I didn't want to move into an unclean, pre-damaged and bug infested apartment.

5 days before move in. The place looks decently clean at first glance. Upon further inspection, there are dead and a couple of live roaches on the window seals, I was watching a couple of em scurrying about where heating unit is. The bathroom has dirty, discolored tiles and grouting, floorboards around the toilet were exposed up to an inch around as if it was made for a larger toilet exposing the wood to moisture and eventual rot is definately not good, the whole place was still dirty with sawdust, there was still major damage to one of the under-sink cabinet floorboards, there is broken glass from a broken mirror in the closet, the deadbolt on my apartment has no screws in it and the garage has a broken lock. the garage had about a cm or so of filth and sharp objects in it ready to flatten my tires.
So, I fired off this angry letter to upper management mentioning all of the above and told them that having run a familly motel business for 20 years in the past, I would have been deeply ashamed to rent out rooms in the condition that I see with these apartments. I also told them that I suspect that they are taking shortcuts in their reno's because they know they're unit will be rented regardless and that I would rather lose the apartment than move into one in that condition. Now is my move in date and To my surprise, They seem to genuinely want to make the repairs I asked for, today is date where the apartment is officially mine. In the end, which would you rather have, a long term tenant who doesn't just move out at the end of his or her lease, or one who will stay for several years. Luckilly, I didn't lose the apartment as I thought might happen, The reply was positive and immediate, they apologized to me for the shoddy workmanship and the state of my apartment, they said the repairs and clean up will be done and told also me they will set a higher standard in their reno's. Today being the first day I will make my inspection of the reno's. I graded them a little higher than I should, I am hoping they are being genuinely sincere in wanting to do well by their renters.
Wish me luck.
To be continued.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes.
we've identified bed bugs in our apartment, the wife is freaked out, we were assured that the place will be treated by some guys called magic pest control, we also found out that the heat radiators are so old that they can leak at any time. There are alot of problems with this place. Not good at all.
Hi Coolcustomer,
I'm thinking of renting the ground floor apartment in this unit 317 Park Lawn, read your review & a little freaked out right now about the bedbugs. I was wondering if the situation has improved since u moved in & if there are still bed bugs and roaches in your unit. Also what floor are u on? I wouldn't be looking at this place if I didn't have to...everything else around that area seems worse! Pls advice & thx.
