Nearly picked up a thesaurus to find as many words as possible for horrible as possible.
I moved from Toronto to Edmonton.
I looked into movers and didn't see anything alarming about them.
Arranged the move and was convinced by their sales staff that paying for packing was the way to go, if I wanted my possessions properly insured.
Their packing was atrocious. Literally throwing things in boxes. When I tried intercede was told that it was handled and to let them work or else they would just leave.
Naturally when I received my things on the other side of the move, many things were broken. I immediately phoned the company and was told I was to send pictures and receipts. I did and then was told they would give $100 on $2000 worth of possessions. I asked about the paid for packing and was informed I could then take $150 or not, but if I did I wouldn't be allowed to write a review.

You can see my choice. Do not use these lying, careless terrible movers.

I used Across Country Movers from San Diego to Toronto and the mover that came to help was a Russian who was so helpful and polite I asked him to come and move me locally from California to Portland OR for a second home we have. I was willing to pay him to come to the US from Canada to move us because he was amazing and not one item was damaged.

This company I would recommend any day especially for the Russian mover.

Thank you Cecilia for such an amazing move.

I just want everyone to know about these 2 companies so hopefully they will never be able to sink their teeth into anyone else. If you are going to move and decide on hiring a professional moving company please never hire these guys. Across country movers(out of Richmond Bc) or Troys transport and storage(Scarborough on)
we moved from Portage la Prairie Mb back to Ontario and until we found our perfect home we decided to leave our furniture in storage. Originally the moving cost was quoted reasonably but after storage and the move we faced a $15000 bill. Had we not have had our sentimental pieces in storage we could have simply replaced our old stuff with new at this cost. We paid the bill in full and awaited our furniture to our new home. When it arrived we noticed a lot of damages to our furnishings the movers themselves were completely useless and put holes in the walls of our brand new home but the worst part is they lost half of our belongings. I contacted Sam at Across Country Movers and got the run around then I contacted Tony's Transport and storage and was told to go F myself. No one has our furniture and the worst part is they won't even offer a cent towards replacement costs. They know our only recourse is to file a small claims action against them and even at best we're only allowed to sue them for 0.50 cents per pound. These guys know how to legally rob and steal from people and have no one to answer to so Please don't ever use these companies. Across Country Movers(Richmond Bc) and Troys Transport and Storage(Scarborough On).

Where to begin? The falsification of my bill? The destruction and refusal to pay for damaged property, both delivered and to the building/doors/hallways? How about after making me pay for packing, that was responsible for a good part of the destruction, that they then tried to blackmail me into not publishing a review in order to receive $150 on over $1000.00 of damages.

Disreputable, unprofessional and should be shut down.

This is the worst ever movers,. I moved from Dubai to Toronto I did not have a single broken cup and nothing missing , I moved from Toronto to BC the main sofa leg was broken, many dents on the dinning table, half of an expensive dining set was broken, Despite I have paid much more than what expected , I was expecting to have better service, when I filed a complaint they offered 50$ which I rejected so they offered me a 100 CAD $ but not to post any feedback on the social media . this is against any free speak in the country and no one cares about how these movers ripping off people , I told them I do not need your 100$ put I make sure to post my feedback everywhere I can .
my advice to all individuals who are planning to move, don't use use this unprofessional people .

One star is being very generous. We were moving from Saint John, NB to Saskatoon, Sk. The stuff was put on the truck July 17th (they came at 10 PM!) and was promised in Saskatoon by August 1st - I started work August 2nd so hypothetically it should have worked out. It is now August 25th, and no sign of our stuff. They have no clue when it will arrive in Saskatoon. We have been on an air mattress with no table, furniture, clothes, dishes etc for a full month. I've tried calling the head office in BC a couple times a week, and can never get a straight answer, nor do they let me speak to a manager. He's always "busy" and I give them my phone number and beg them to let him know to call me - it's never happened. I still don't even know how much money they're going to want! Across country movers should be ashamed of themselves, and I'm clearly not the only one they've screwed over. And yes, I placed a complaint to the BBB. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

The weight ended up being at least twice what we thought it should be......and they would not give us any proof of the weight. We have no way of contesting this.
Furniture was supposed to be wrapped.....We had damage due to to failure to do this.
They promise no extra fuel charge.......but charged us $55. fuel charge
They promise free storage and free delivery from the warehouse....but charged a warehouse fee of $98. even though we didn't need or want any storage.
They promise delivery within 14 days. They picked up our contents on June 14 .....and delivered on July 6th. I called many times to get info about our things and spoke to someone on June 30th who said it was in a warehouse in Vancouver.....didn't know when it would be delivered. They would call.
We had to pay the full amount of the remaining bill before our items could be unloaded.
When I contacted the customer services dept. after the move about our claim they offered us $25. for the damage to our furniture but no reversal of any fees that they charged that were not supposed to be charged or no compensation for the days that we lived in our apartment without our things.
We asked for $300. to cover the fees that were charged that were not supposed to be added. They refused. Offered $200. .....and we could not write a review. If a company picks up a little cash on each deal by not fulfilling their promises it probably ends up to be a lot at the end of the year.
We would rather let people know.......If a company isn't honest about and doesn't deliver what they promise then other people should know than take their insulting offer.
Beware !!

You will end up paying twice the quote
Bunch of hidden fees
You dont know how huch your stuff really weigh since they only measure it in their warehouse. There is no way to find out if it's right measure or made up.
Horrible experience negociating with the headquarters. Very rude. They will threat you to take all your stuff away if you dont agree to pay the " surprise" bill.

I hired this company for my senior parents` move from Los Angeles to Chilliwack last month. Thy were very stressed because all their furniture is even older than me :)
I wasnt at the pick up location when the movers came but i was on the phone with my mom from A to Z. The movers were great, fast, careful and they were very kind.
But for us, the most important part, we received all the shipment in perfect condition and it took only 2 days from Us to Canada.
We highly recommend this company to everyone who has got moving plans.

Have a great day !

Used this company to move from Burnaby, BC to Saskatchewan.
Quoted price for move of $1,000 - ended up costing almost $1500.
Promised that our belongings would be delivered in 7-10 days - it took 22 days.
When our belongings arrived, someone along the way had stacked heavy items on top of fragile ones in one of the boxes.
FULL payment required prior to delivery - this is maybe standard in the industry - but NOT a good feeling paying ahead when the price has gone up by 50%, and delivery took more than twice as long as promised.
One positive note......driver making delivery was FANTASTIC - but he worked for a different trucking co.
Would NOT recommend!

From the first day of my contact with the company and speaking to Sara, I felt at ease, very client friendly attitude, this was even confirmed upon my meeting with Tim, who came over to my home for an assessment and providing me with a quote. It was only very positive, he listened to all my needs, explained and provided tips re. Packaging, and not only that, he even provided us with moving boxes and tape. The rates were very reasonable. On the date of our move, Tim came over to supervise the moving team, who did an exceptional job in packing, wrapping, labelling, and loading all the stuff. This further convinced me that we were with the right company, who cared about us. This in itself took off a lot of stress with our move.
I would highly recommend this company to any of my family, friends, or anybody who is reading this review. Once again a BIG thank you to Tim, his exemplary professional, friendly, and caring dealings with customers, which should be set as an example to all the members of the team.

As others stated, have to think any good reviews on this company are planted by the company. Their rating with the BBB is F, wish I'd discovered that earlier but I couldn't even get an address for this company until it was too late and my initial searches on the BBB didn't find them. Another issue is they seem to operate under more than one name, they wanted payment to them done by money order in the name of Across Canada Van Lines Inc.

We have previously moved cross country without any problems but this was a mess from start to finish. We couldn't get them to send us a contract to review despite multiple requests and received nothing in writing until after they had loaded our goods on their truck. Beyond not being willing to give us a pick up time until the day before our move, they actually decided they were picking up our stuff a day ahead of schedule and we either had to accept that on 1 hour's notice or I guess end up stranded. They also rescheduled our delivery date and time 3 or more times. I never received any sort of proof as to the weight of our goods, upon which the cost of the move is based, and based on the weight of our goods during our prior cross country move, which we had drastically downsized by selling a lot of our furniture and belongings prior to this move, I'm quite sure the weight they sited was inflated. Regardless, we accepted all of these issues without complaint.

What finally upset us was the condition of our belongings when they arrived. Almost every item of furniture had some sort of damage, some of it quite severe. We had leather furniture with multiple scuffs, scratches and slits. An expensive china cabinet not only had multiple gouges and chunks of wood scraped off in various areas, there was actually a hole punched in the top. Multiple pieces of expensive wrought iron furniture, including our master bed, a kitchen table with 4 chairs and various occasional tables had scrapes and chunks of finish gouged right down to the metal. A number of boxes had severe damage, including boxes that had been ripped open, severely punctured, severely compressed and stuff spilled all over them. Many of these compromised boxes contained items that had been broken. Any pictures we had were first bubble wrapped, then wrapped again with multiple layers of paper then packed in specialty picture boxes padded all around with additional paper. Despite that, they severely punctured (almost looks like with a forklift) a box clearly marked as Extremely Fragile containing our most valuable picture, a large limited edition print costing more than $1,700, wrecking the frame and breaking the glass. As per their request, I submitted to them a 9 page report with 22 grouped entries including pictures detailing our damages and showing the state of the boxes.

I have an estimate of around $1,000 to repair our leather furniture (9 damaged areas on 4 pieces), the picture will easily cost more than $500 to reframe, at least another $500 to fix what can be fixed on our other furniture (not sure what can be done about the hole in my china cabinet) and at least another $200 to replace various other broken items. So, not including my time and hassle, at least $2,200 out of my pocket for various repairs, not to mention devaluation of belongings that used to be in perfect condition. For that I was first offered $75, then a final offer of $125, both offers including what I gather is their standard gag order. Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to Small Claims and the BBB I go.

Hi all,

Me and my mother used this company to move from Hamilton to Abbostford in October/ 2015.
I searched for a company for around 2 months because some of our furniture is really old ( from my grandparents :) ) and they are very valuable especially for my mother.
i checked for the reviews of so many movers and talked them over the phone , emailed them...etc.
And, finally we decided to go with Across Country Movers.
The most impressive part was, the sales rep. , Sara, replied all my questions very patiently and answered all the emails with in max. 10 minutes.
All the details was sent to me by email and we confirmed everything both over the phone and by writing.

The operetions part was very successfull as well. 3 movers came on the pick up day. They wrapped all the furniture very very carefully. They used blankets and some special covers. And, we had already packed personal belongings.
Movers loaded the pieces one by one and left and this took around 1.5 hours. They worked really fast and efficient.
After 6 days, i got a call from BC dispatch and we organized our delivery for the next day.
There were 3 different movers this time and they were as good as the other ones. We were quite anxious about the situation of the furniture ( because we red lots of terrible stories about moving companies ) and we started to unpack them as soon as the movers left.
Absolutely NOTHING was damaged, nothing ( only 2 plates in the boxes but it is not a big deal ).
They did a great job.

I checked a couple of negative reviews for this company and i can not believe them. If this company gave such a good service to my family, i am sure that they are giving the same service to everyone.
The people who are not happy must have some other plans ( maybe some refund, who knows ???? )

Anyways, please only believe in honest people and if you are looking for movers, call this company.

Have a nice day everyone !

Here are some of what happened for a move from Toronto to Los Angeles:

1. Across Canada Van Lines was very fast to give a quote and collect a deposit.

2. They do NOT give a pick-up hour and expect you to be available the entire day including close to midnight!

3. They do NOT provide any reasonable delivery time estimate. The actual delivery date might be many days after their estimate (and you will only get a 1 day notice for the actual delivery time).

4. They will deliver several BROKEN ITEMs that have been *professionally* packed by their own staff (who kept bragging about their skills compared to other packers). They will not compensate for the cost of damage. They estimate our damages to be $400; but they will only offer $80 if we promise not to complain!!! We now have two tables and one mirror completely broken and one antique armchair leg damaged (clipped completely).

ACM clearly pads review sites with positive reviews to offset the honest ones.

My moving experience was a nightmare:

- When the mover showed up to collect my items, he showed up alone and had to load the truck all by himself which took twice as long as it should have.
- They were 5 days late in delivering my furniture, during which time I had to find somewhere else to stay since I had nothing to sleep on.
- They lost 4 boxes and my box spring.
- They damaged 40% of my delivered boxes and broke numerous items.
- Heavy duty garment bags were ripped open and my clothing was strewn throughout the moving truck.
- The delivery guys tried to charge me extra for items that were supposed to be included in my contract.
- The delivery guys offered other illegal services to me upon delivery.
- They damaged my property and my condo's property during the move in.

When I contacted them to resolve the issue:

- Their CSR department took DAYS to respond to my emails and only responded when I phoned in repeatedly to check on the status of my claim.
- They offered me a paltry $50, stating that they were actually paying out $350 to their insurance company as a deductible for my claim, making the total amount paid $400 ($50 to me, $350 to insurance). Excuse me, if they're paying $350 to insurance, why wouldn't the insurance company be paying me instead for my damages? When I pointed this out, they raised their offer to $100 for me (citing the $350 for insurance still, so it sounded like the total amount would be $450).
- When I asked for proof of insurance, they didn't respond.

Conditions for accepting the pay out of $100 is complete silence on my end. Forget it. Hopefully my "loss" of $100 will help other people see what crooks Across Country Movers are. Save yourself the hassle and book someone, ANYONE, else.

We were left extremely satisfied and impressed with the level of service and care that Across Country Movers provided. These guys are the type of movers that are not only rare, but hard to find. This company deserves, my business, our trust and the time to write a glowing review. In short: My wife and I sold our first home after 10 years. Having two kids and a house full of stuff that we had accumulated over the years, we knew we were going to need help from professionals. Two of my colleagues used Across Country Movers in the past, so when the time came to make a decision, it was a no brainer. We found their office staff to be helpful, friendly and accommodating. They responded to our e-mails, phone calls and enquiries in a timely manner. Every question we had was answered professionally and advice was provided in order to ensure we understood how the process works. On moving day, Their staff / moving-team came on-time and brought a shiny brand new trucks to move our three bedroom house. The team did a terrific job prepping the house by protecting floors and doors, followed by loading and moving every piece of furniture in a matter of hours while nothing was damaged. This company provided the type of service and support that is just unbeatable. Our apologies it took so long for us to leave a review, Well deserved and you guys are highly recommended!

I had a positive experience working with Across Country Movers on my recent move from Vancouver to Toronto.
Telephone service and emails were handled promptly.
From pricing, to pick-up to delivery, every step of the way was handled professionally.
Both the pick-up crew and the drop-off crew were very careful to ensure our household goods were loaded and unloaded without incident.

I recently hired across country movers to move me from Calgary, Alberta to London, Ontario. Admittedly, I didn't believe that a moving company could have 48 - 5 star reviews and when I saw the 1 star reviews I was quite nervous that I had made a big mistake hiring them. But I hadn't made a mistake, my items were picked up, dropped off, and nothing was broken.

One thing that I think the company could work on is their communication. I was told that I would be contacted by the movers the day before my pick up to confirm the time and they didn't ever call. However, I called into the office the morning of my move and Sara was able to get in touch with the movers and let me know when they would be coming. I needed an early move because I had booked carpet cleaners, and when Sara told me they wouldn't be coming until the afternoon, she was able to get them to pick my items up first so that it didn't interfere with the cleaning.

On the Calgary end, my movers were fast, efficient, and respectful of my belongings. One of the movers was not the best trolly navigator, but he was very apologetic when he hit a jut out in the wall with a box.

I noticed that some of the people who wrote the 1-star reviews complained about the quality of packing. Let me just say this, if you are an able bodied person, don't let other people pack your boxes. I am a busy professional, and I did a bit of packing each night over 3 weeks. It wasn't too much for me to handle and I knew that my valuables were packed securely for a move.

My movers picked up my boxes on August 31, which is probably one of the busiest moving days in the year. I wasn't leaving Calgary until later in the month, so I had told them I wasn't in a rush to get the boxes. However, it took 22 days to get them delivered in London which was longer than I had expected. That ended up being the day after I arrived in London though, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

The movers in London were also great while moving my stuff into the house. My home has a very steep driveway, and they definitely worked hard to get my stuff up to the garage. The stuff that I wanted taken up to the second floor they took up, including the bed and several wardrobe boxes.

I noticed some people complained about having to pay before their belongings were moved off the truck. I did quite a bit searching around and that seems to be standard practice across the industry.

Overall the service was good but not perfect. Communication from dispatch could've been better, but when I called I got the answers I needed. The price I had been quoted was around $1800 and it ended up being $2000, but when it's based on weight that seemed reasonable (and something that could be predicted) so I was very pleased with the cost. The move took longer than I had anticipated, but it wasn't an issue for me since I wasn't moving right away.

If you want a very fast move, or someone to pack your belongings, pay the money for a big name line (Atlas, for example, quoted me $4000 for the same move). If you are not in a huge rush, or you're looking to save some money, this is a good moving company to choose. Use common sense and pack your boxes yourself, and if you have any issues, call the office because they did a great job of getting answers for me.

Moving is going to be stressful regardless of the company you choose. Take a deep breath, you're going to be fine.

Terrible service from the start. Have not yet received my belongings but was forced to give my credit card without seeing an invoice. Was given an extremely high invoice over the phone I said it could not be possible with what small amount I had and the weight was less then the quote but higher price . They called back later and said they didn't have their facts straight and it was actually 300 less. Not sure how they come up with their numbers as I still have no received an invoice despite several requests to have one sent to me . Took twice as long to ship as it was supposed to and when I try to contact the company with questions rarely if ever do I get a response let alone one that actually answers my questions. Based on the quote the costs do not add up.

Before signing up with this company I read all of the reviews and thought this company was too good to be true, great prices, excellent reviews, polite & prompt customer service...I thought it was strange that there were no reviews prior to Apr/2015 but decided to go ahead anyway. I agree with the previous poster that they post several fake reviews to bump off the bad ones as my experience was horrible from the minute I gave them the deposit. I had billing issues such as mathematical errors & extra charges that were not agreed upon & when I tried to resolve these issues prior to delivery, customer service said they were too busy to get back to me and after I persisted they got downright rude and snarky. I had missing & damaged furniture and after many attempts to get answers on my claim, they offered me $25.00. The delivery people had communication problems, couldn't find the address and were hours late. The bill was incorrect & they asked for the money before they would even open the truck to show the furniture and then just said to take it up with the office. I have learned from all of this if it sounds too good to be true, it is!

Every time they get a bad review, they post several good ones to bump it off the front page!

Don't trust these guys! Read all the one star reviews! They steal and break your stuff! They will not pay out any claims!

They are owned by the same guy who owns Vega Van Lines, Across Canada Movers, and several others. Read reviews for them.

Read all this stuff:

The crew was professional, friendly, extremely accommodating, very fast and efficient, hard working (for 9 hours straight!) and took very good care of our belongings ensuring that the house was well protected. We had loads to move: 5 bedroom house and lots of other heavy items and tools. We had 4 guys and one large truck rented on an hourly basis for the inner city move. This was the first time I ever hired movers and I was worried that they might take multiple breaks and drag out the time since they're paid hourly etc Not these guys! They barely stopped for coffee when I brought them a round. During the drive to the new house, they stopped for a 30 minute lunch and were back at it in no time. They were so efficient at getting every item exactly where we wanted it, even when most items went into storage in the basement. They ran up and down those stairs with no complaints, these men were on a mission! They stacked items how we asked, ensured to step only on their floor protection mats, rearranged items after I changed my mind, all with great enthusiasm and cheerfulness. They sure take pride in their work. I would highly recommend Across country Movers to anyone I know in need of moving services. It was money very well spent and I can't say enough about how pleased we were throughout the entire process. I have moved myself with help of friends and family before. Usually takes up an entire weekend and the next week we are sore from all the heavy lifting. Not this time. We spent one 9 hour day directing the movers, then had loads of energy to start unpacking! We were moved in and unpacked by the end of the weekend. Best. Move. EVER! Well worth the money.

Across Country Movers moved my sister from Vancouver BC to Vernon BC. She doesn't have much furniture, but she had to move out of one place, then Across Country Movers stored her furniture for one month, then they delivered to Vernon BC. They were very careful, on time and responsive. They brought a wardrobe box for her hanging clothes. They took great care with the move and she couldn't have asked for better service. I will definitely recommend them.

Across Country Movers was swift, courteous and professional. I would definitely use this company again. The actual moving staff worked from the minute they began loading the van to the time they finished. When they arrived at my destination they were again thorough, speedy and careful with my belongings. My move went without a hitch or any extra surprises. Truly a wonderful experience and would recommend them to anyone. The moving guys arrived exactly on time for both pick up and delivery. I bought full packing and unpacking services from them and they did an incredible job. They were very careful about avoiding scratching the walls and furniture. They were very professional throughout my move and gave me a great price for my out of state relocation.Good Services, good crew! I was very happy with the service. The guys were prompt, efficient, and did their work with a wonderful sense of urgency; always a great thing when you're getting a service from a professional team. They took care to make sure that nothing would get damaged, neither the furniture being moved nor the apartment I was moving from. These guys are insured just in case something does happen. They are very good at geometry too and were able to fit large, oddly shaped furniture into small spaces like the elevator. They operate quickly and finished the move in a professional manner. The final testament to their good work was when our stuff arrived at final destination, and not only was NOTHING damaged, but the movers we had hired on this end complimented the excellent packing job. Like I said, when you have peers in your field complimenting you, you know you're doing something right! They took their time to wrap all my valuables and wooden furniture, even dismantled and assembled our beds. Impressed with the use of floor runners I had a good feeling I was in professional hands when nice voice greeted me on the phone, explaining the services, even advising me on how to pack items in boxes, then finally price matching a previous quote Id been given. After the movers had gotten everything in the house and the beds and dresser set up, they went through the paperwork with us so that we could make sure we had all the boxes. They were all numbered and they were checking them off as they brought them in. I had a hard time following it all, but the supervisor seemed on the ball and even went in search of one numbered box that wasn’t checked off on the list. I signed it all, gave the tip and said good-bye. I was also offered free storage which i didnt need. I rather took the 5% student discount.
