Gibbons Motor Toys began operation in June of 1981 under the name of The Service Department. At this time, automotive repair and maintenance was the primary business.
Tim Panasiuk (owner and general manager) expanded the company in 1989 and added a Mercury Marine franchise. As the recreational side continued to grow, the operating name was changed in the early 1990s to Gibbons Auto and Leisure Centre.
