Trio, Austin Reviews (29)
For IT, just download Comptia, Network+, 685/6, Linux, Security+ pdfs, get a cracked vcu exam simulator and farm those Certifications. Use your own pc to get hands on with parts. The internet is the BEST education you have, watch videos and get into technological/computer forums so you can ask questions to a VARIETY people and learn more and perhaps build a little more reputation for yourself.
All the above, is a better version of what you would do at triOS but for $0 (except for buying exam vouchers)
It is literally stupid, they make you buy the books then when your courses start they give you a free pdf of them, most of the time the teacher is reading the book for you (I think one can do that for themselves)
I was able to get a tier 2 IT job with family connections only, the employers that I didn't have connections to wouldn't take this education seriously and asked if I actually am going to get a higher education after highschool
So far the reviews seem good and the school is very helpful and friendly.
I would like to apply for SCL in trios college, can someone please let me know if I am making the right choice.
Coming off an injury i had many appointments to attend and sometimes this would interfere with my schooling. Uzma, the Campus Director, has assisted me in balancing the schedule so i got to my appointments and minimizing me missing class. I appreciated this as she made it possible for me to focus on GOING to school and not MISSING school. I believe her smile as well as her positive and delightful attitude allows for us students to approach her with any concerns or issues we may have.
Overall these factors, i feel, make going to triOS a pleasurable and positive experience for both new students or older students going back to school after an extended period.
It is because of this, I would recommend looking into triOS college to anyone considering going back to school for re-education, like I am.
I received a grant through Second Career, and in order to do so, I had to do a TON of research to find what would be the best program available and which schools offered the law clerk program; triOS seemed to be the obvious choice.
Upon enrollment, my educational consultant was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, giving me all (and even more than requested) information on the program I was researching, even offering additional assistance with my Second Career package.
I am a mother of 2 and going to school instead of working was a serious concern for me financially, but the financial advisors helped balance my grant funding with OSAP so I could be comfortable and able to focus on school rather than finances.
I currently have a 96% average. 4 hour school days make it easy for me to balance school and home life.
The class sizes are generally small and the teachers are available, experienced, smart, and well-spoken. I have never had an issue and can't believe some of the reviews I've read- they don't reflect in any way my experience with triOS.
All in all, I am truly enjoying my time here. I know I am receiving a good education. Bonus- I've upgraded my Microsoft Office (word & excel) skills. I've also created a wonderful new resume, elevator pitch, and LinkedIn profile, thanks to the Career Management program.
I've made new friends with not only students, but staff.
I am excited and proud to be moving forward in life, and am really having a great time with this transition in my life.
I would absolutely recommend triOS College to anyone looking to go to further their education, regardless of what stage you're in in your life!
My primary instructor Mark Hemingway on the other hand is a delightful instructor. He knows the material and makes it interesting. He keeps the course entertaining even through the boring parts. If it had been him through our Exchange course than I would have a greater overall view of my time. Mark, if you ever read this, get a job at another company. You deserve more than what TriOS can offer.
Overall, I would not recommend TriOS college to anyone. It's a business that, at least for the IT courses, has lost it's way. I realize it's important to learn about the history of IT but I had to go through 2 courses, 10 weeks, of nearly identical material about irrelevant technology. This could have been replaced with a flexible course of something more useful like cloud technology or a primer on scripting or even entrepreneurship. Anything but Blackberry. This lack of concern over a relevant curriculum is where I realized it's a business and not a school I'm proud to say I've gone to.
It was worth it in regards to setting a schedule of waking up early and having learning tasks assigned to me. I rediscovered my love of learning and I'm grateful for that.
And when he is there he spends more time talking about himself than he does on the material, then wonders why know one does well on the tests...It's pathetic, I'm seriously thinking of dropping out and going somewhere, anywhere else.....
It's a Joke don't waste your time.....
triOS Campus Support Team
I took time to research a lot and got opportunity to avail free (yes, I did not pay for it) qualitative training from Canadian government sponsored institution well before I booked the tickets to Canada. After my landing, sailed through 17 telephonic interviews, 5 personal interviews and 4 selections (support /commission jobs) within first 2 weeks of landing. With excellent exposure to logistics and IT development back home, I got a casual job (in nights)in the 2nd month with Canada's largest logistics company (and they me confirmed after 4 months) without any issue. I, however, did not loose my focus about my long-term goals and decided to go to school after some more research. Researched deep about the institutions and the curriculum, networked with professionals, attended job workshops + career fairs and personally went to the institutions to seek information.
I'd called on triOS college, sought appointment and visited the same day(all within 3-4 hours). At first sight, I could feel the warm (cold!) professional corporate environment. The councillor was quite friendly and immediately after knowing my qualifications and experience, I was given the brochure of courses and given the freedom to choose. I was also taken a round of the campus facilities and got an opportunity to interact with regional director too. I'd shown interest in IT computer and network admin course, got the dates and quote for the same. After few days, again I went there, filled for OSAP (on my own, but in campus) and joined the course. In the meantime, I got several calls from other institutions, but not even a single unsolicited call / email chasing me for admission from triOS. The instructors are extremely professional, engage in critical discussions and happy to see them doing their research on daily basis. They are very particular about attendance and performance in daily quiz with tricky questions(in writing), which readies you for certification process. It's indeed a fast paced study but with ample time for practicing on computer systems with high-end configuration. The campus director so mixes in the crowd that twice I'd mistaken him to be another student or faculty member. He is also quite friendly and visits classes frequently. The student profile is far and wide and I observed that many former students from reputed community colleges are also part of not just my class but of other courses too. Decision to join was based on their research and not marketing skills of the counsellor, they told me during regular interactions. They agreed with my view that spending in triOS college sometime daily will get them ready for office environment (most of the admin tasks are carried out just like a regular office and not school). Got leads from college for volunteer opportunities and you don't believe this - I got conditional offer of appointment (certifications and diploma of my program) during college job fair in very 2nd week in college, from one reputed Technology company. May be because I was habituated to fast paced corporate environment in the past, consistently scoring well presently. Faced an issue of double payment of installment (I don't get full OSAP), once. Financial officer took proactive steps to resolve the same in flat 2 business days and I got refund. I reported severe headache and went home before the end of session on one day when the class room is quite hot due to AC failure. Counsellor enquired about my health, sought feedback and our entire class was shifted to another room within 3 days.
I study in Brampton campus. Not many students find time from studies for online networking as one need to devote at least 3 hours at home, apart from 4-5 hours in school.
I strongly feel its worth spending every cent of my money and every second of time to learn and acquire skills at triOS.
My advice to students and prospects: Always be positive, do your research (focus on the industry / sector and not generic) well before you choose the course, do not regret your decision and more importantly stop sulking about something (nothing!).
Stay tuned. I intend to post once again after sometime.
For example, if you express ANY concern with regards to the sub-standard quality of instructors, or that all the instructors do is tell students specifically what is on the exam instead of teaching the breadth of course material, they WILL target you for "personal" harassment which is different from harassment under the Human Rights Code. This can include: instructors verbally attacking you within the classroom environment, marking you absent when you are in fact present, giving lower grades than that which you as the student has earned, refusing to grant meetings necessary to prepare for internship, and doing everything possible to have your OSAP or Second Career Funding cancelled so you are not financially able to complete your program. All of this is done to enable them to protect their own "reputation", while they destroy yours including making false claims that you posed a threat to the safety of staff or other students in order to discredit any complaint you file with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities.
All of this happened to me and as a result I my candidacy as a Paralegal with the Law Society of Upper Canada has been cancelled, and even if I obtained my training at another institution, my unfair expulsion from TriOS could prevent me from ever obtaining my license.
The difficulty level of meeting their unfair Complaints Procedure such as the 2 day filing period for complaint about expulsion, is intended to prevent students from being able to comply, allowing them to ignore your complaint, keep your money, and preventing the matter from even reaching the Ministry level. If you manage to get your complaint to the Ministry level, all they are empowered to do is give you a partial or full refund of your tuition (not books or supplies), and only if THEY did not follow their own complaints procedure. The MTCU can do nothing to restore my professional reputation that has been destroyed by their false allegations, or compensate me with regards to the fact that I will need to retake the 9 months of the one year program I was enrolled in, or the loss of monies paid to other organizations in preparation for licensing -- that is if the LSUC will even allow me to be licensed after all of this.
Save your money and reputation by attending a provincially regulated educational institution even if you must wait one year to get one of the limited spaces available, that make these unscrupulous Private Career Colleges desirable to those desperate to start their futures as soon as soon as possible.
I find it strange the same reviewer who claims the school will do anything to keep OSAP funding also will also do anything possible to have the OSAP money cancelled....so which one is it?
The reviewer using the cover of autonomy has not commented on the school's competency but made an accusation the school attacked the reviewer's reputation personally. I think therein lies the problem. This is not a review, its an angry former student who feels hard done by. So now the question is, is anything else credible?
Well something doesn't add up.The only way a student would not be entitled to write the P1 exam is if they did not complete their studies and that means pass every course and complete the internship and then not have any criminal record that would disqualify them from entitlement. That stipulation is mandated by the Law Society not the college.
The Law Society can not prevent someone from entitlement if they have no criminal disentitlement and they have completed all their required courses and internship. Its just not true to say they would not allow membership because someone switched schools. Students do it all the time.
I think students should do their homework. Any college has its pros and cons. Private paralegal colleges tend to allow you to complete the program in one year through intensive daily attendance in courses at a minimum of 4 hours.
In community colleges it is spread out over a period of years so it depends on how fast you want to do it.
As well community colleges can be overwheming in size, with much larger classes so some students prefer private colleges because they are smaller.
The curriculum for paralegal and law clerk programs is set by the Law Society and ILCO (the association for Law Clerks).
How a student does depends on them. This is adult education. Some students are weak in written or oral English and so they struggle and then blame it on the teacher. Others hate reading and try to get through with as little work as possible.
Students of paralegal or law clerk programs have to be prepared to do a lot of home study and reading.
Ask questions of all colleges. Never feel pressured to make a decision.
With regards to the $$$$$ that it costs, only time will tell if it was worth it, however, I am learning a lot. I feel they should be more forthright with the money aspect and tell students what to expect. I found the same thing as other students are saying, that you can't succeed in these fast tracked courses if you don't put in 4-5 hours every day and that makes it very difficult to make a living. I am suffering immensely because of that, not because of the quality of education......I don't know about other campuses but my experience with Mississauga campus has been very good so far.
My campus director and instructor both really emphasized how important it is to volunteer while in school. It helps network while you build your skill set. You need to take charge of your education. I had a Community Service Worker diploma, so it was less than one year and I was competing for a job with people who went to school for way longer, they had SSW and BSW and sometimes MSW... I STILL GOT OFFERED A JOB! Take control of your own future and learning and you will do just fine, its a good school that teaches important material and the instructors really care about you.
I am very surprised by some of the negative reviews on this site, because my experience was nothing like that. I can't even make one suggestion about anything I would do differently, and I know that my friends from other programs were all very happy too.
In my class, I started with 4 other PTA students, all of us got jobs within a month or so of graduating, and most of those jobs came right from the internship.
I am very confused about where the negativity is coming from, I really believe triOS gives you the tools to be successful, but you have to be the one to use them properly. All I can say is that some people work their a$$es off to succeed and others want to just place blame when they fail. I didn't have the best marks in the class (some of my classmates were doctors from other countries!), but I still got a job (that I love) because of my attitude combined with the knowledge I gained at triOS.
I think it is a good idea to sit in on a class rather than listening to a bunch of anonymous idiots on the internet when making a decision, then you will know for sure what you are getting into. And yes, it is a compressed program which is basically like making school a full time job, 4 hours of class and 4 hours of study, not every night, but you should plan on it most nights if you want to do well.
Thanks
Thi is what my experience has been
The customer service is not the greatest, we have only one teacher for the entire course that does not speak english well at all and does not explain at all numerous students have gone to the Director of Toronto site and nothing has been done to change this situation. The courses are very fast and you need to put another 3 to 4 hours at home in order to stay on track the books are great and the organization in the school is top notch but unfortunately the most important component in the school the teachers are below standards and the college has received various complains but no changes has been made.
Also the computers are below standards for example one of my courses in order to do the labs which is the most important part to learn we need it a machine with minimum 8GB RAM and visrtualization support, but we all we had was 4GB RAM and very slow processors so we could not do the labs unless you have a good computer at home or the money to get one, which is completely unfair because this is part of the responsability of the college or at inform the student that they need to get some hardware in order to go through the course.
Therefore I cannot recommend this college to people it would be unfair. I would not do it again you are better of going to a real community college than this private college.
triOS is an accredited private college just choose your program wisely. I did a lot of research before choosing the school and I was also a Sheridan College student in my first term, Sheridan was the worst experience ever. It is not always private colleges that are a scam, you just have to find the right school and program for yourself.
I will do another review once I start the school and actually see what is going on but for now I have no complaints.
You should also be greatful to TriOS for being the saviour of your future, or go somewhere else.
