On November 8th, 2013 in the late afternoon I went to pick up my car from the body / painting shop where it had been since October 5th, 2013.
On the way back home I found something was wrong with the car because I could not accelerate speed; in addition I noticed a huge difference with the mileage. There was an additional of 16,115 kilometers added. I was driving on a busy highway (Deer foot Trail) where I was being threatened by fast moving cars as an obstacle in their way. It was terrifying and a very dangerous experience.
After speaking with the body / paint shop owner, I went back to his place of business and tested my car again but there was no positive response. As a result I called a tow truck and had them deliver my car to Lone Star Mercedes-Benz Dealership for inspection hoping they will honestly help me. The car was there for over a week due to the long weekend and busy time.
On November 16th, 2013 I got a diagnosis that my car needed a new transmission, torque converter and control unit replacement. This would cost approximately $ 8,100 plus GST.
On June 27th, 2013 my car had a Service B performed by the same dealership; they recommended replacement of tensioner and belt which was done in July. Also, the water pump was changed on September 6th, 2013 as stated in a farther diagnosis. My car was mechanically in excellent condition before it went for some body work and a paint job due to rust around the back wheels.
I was shocked what had happened! I declined repair at this point asking to change the transmission fluid so car can be driven. On Sunday November 17, 2013 car was towed away to Mr. Kuks for inspection. I have noticed millage went back to normal as it was before it went to body /paint shop.
After arrival, Mr. Kuks, gathered all the information, quickly checked my car on his diagnostic computer and took me for a test drive to prove that there was nothing wrong with my car. He stated he needed more time to do more detailed inspection.
On November 11th, 2013 I came back to Mr. Kuks shop to pick up my car and drove it back home and am still driving it without replacing transmission.
The diagnosis I received from him was that all this incorrect gear speed might have occurred when vehicle’s battery was discharged and vehicle was boosted. He cleared the faulty codes and tested the car – no problems were found with shifting at that time.
I paid $148.58 to Mr. Kuks for his service versus a potential $ 10,000 service as estimated by the Mercedes-Benz Dealership. What a relief!!!
Thank You Mr. Kuks for your honest opinion, I do appreciate it very much.
