OakWood Renovation Experts, Ottawa Reviews (10)
Upon giving the go-ahead the process of preconstruction meetings really helped make sure that we were on the same page about what would happen and the scheduling. During the work we found that both the Oakwood workers and the sub-trades were both professional and friendly. We also had occasion to call upon Oakwood for some post-project service. Again the response and service provided was prompt and professional.
We're really enjoying our expanded kitchen and our opened-up front entrance. The project has given our 1970s era house an up-to-date feel and makes entertaining much more enjoyable.
It was important to us that we have a new usable space that did not look like a basement with a play area for the kids. Also, we absolutely wanted a high tech home theatre, with the latest technology wizardry and OakWood made it a reality, fulfilling our dreams. We have our friends and family over all the time to watch movies and it's as if we are at the theatre, except we are in the comfort of our own home.
As part of the design, OakWood also changed and relocated the stairs to a circular stair system, keeping in mind that we did not want the sensation of entering a basement. We love this feature, and think of OakWood every time we walk down the stairs.
Again, we are extremely pleased with OakWood and have recommended them too many people looking for a professional, high quality renovation company. Congratulations on the Consumer Choice Award and your continued success.
To put this into perspective we essentially gutted our existing structure, removed all the walls from the main floor to implement an open area concept and raised this area to have an almost 10ft ceiling. We added a 4 season sunroom off this main living area and extended the front foundation by four feet. We also added second floor master bedroom complete with bath and walk in closet. All this was completed (including a finished basement and a large deck off the back of the house) in just over 7 months, which was within the timelines given based on changes we requested on the design at certain stages of the project.
We had met with several contractors before calling Oakwood, but from our first meeting with Kevin from sales and Julie from the design team we knew we were in good hands. They were very prepared for every question we had about what we had envisioned for our project, and from that initial meeting we gave the “go ahead” for the design stage. This is where I believe Oakwood stands apart and made our decision to go ahead with the construction a simple one. From several meetings regarding our ideas, having Oakwood take many photographs of the existing structure, Kevin and Julie and by this time Kelly as well who joined our design team, presented us with several options, complete with 3D renderings and architectural drawings of our vision.
We cannot say enough about these drawings. Until one sees their vision rendered in 3D, and in most cases, rendered in color, complete with furniture, it is not hard to envision what your plan will look completed. This made it easy to choose what we wanted in our design and where we wanted it. Kevin was able to tweak our wish list of ideas and staying within our budget. They were able to include everything we had envisioned.
From the initial construction meeting where the demolition process was discussed and items we wished to salvage marked out, to the final inspection before we moved back in, the entire team from Oakwood and all the contractors they had involved in the process was on time and very professional in their dealings. That should be expected of every renovation company. Oakwood has gone several steps beyond this and have taken many of our concerns regarding looks, finishes, etc. that we brought into their attention and had them resolved or fixed. For example, in the new kitchen area we had an exhaust fan that vented to the outside and Oakwood was not satisfied with that outside vent, they replaced it and the one from the master suite to a much better vent.
Our gratitude and thanks goes out to Kevin who presented us with our dream and told us Oakwood could make it happen; to Trent who was in charge of the construction and demolition, and was always there to talk; to Sharon who kept everything on schedule and dealt with all the permits and questions from the city; to Dennis who was in charge of the finishing and final touches who always took the time to explain to us what was happening, what options we had, and most of all had the patience to deal with all our questions and concerns and had the expertise to answer them or the experience to consult and get back to us in a timely fashion. Also to everyone who did the work, especially Kevin M and Paul on the construction side for their eye for detail, and John most of all to you for meeting with us personally several times to keep us up to date on project.
One letter cannot do justice to all the fine details both in design, execution, and completion of a project and undertaking this size required. We would highly recommend Oakwood to anyone wishing to undertake a simple Kitchen renovation to an entire home renovation.
John the whole process was a pleasure and we are now settled in and enjoying our new home!
have a nice day :)
My husband said something on Christmas that describes how we felt when we moved back in; he said, "Do you think the people who own this house will mind that we're using it?" When I bought this place in January of 2006, I was amazed, terrified, and overwhelmed with the baby blue bathroom fixtures and wall paneling, with the gold and orange shag carpeting from the 70s, and the dips in the stairs and the floors. I could always see the potential; even though it was beyond my reach. You have taken my dream and turned it into reality and more. You have melded the new with the old; you have given our grand old girl good bones; you have helped her become a proud elder in this old neighborhood. No wrecking ball will touch her now.
I remember at the beginning when someone from Oakwood said, "You'll be glad to see the last of us when this is done!". That couldn't be further from the truth. This has been the adventure of a lifetime! I'll miss everyone.
However, we want you to come back. We're having a drop-in open house, because so many of our friends and extended family are anxious to see what you've done for us. We would be honored to have you drop in - all of you - John, Debbie, Patricia, Sharon, Trent, Julie, Paul, Kelly, Jordan, Corey, Eric, Carsten, Kevin and those of your employees I may not have known or remembered who helped recreate the old girl, one day at a time, in good weather and bad, through the change orders and the holiday season, and the little things that happen daily for all of us. Please come and join us. We guarantee you a good laugh as you watch the slideshow of my first 3 1/2 year attempt at renovating.
John, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. You and Oakwood are a gift in our lives, and you are always welcome here.
the results and with our experience working with Oakwood.
As you recall we undertook a project that called for gutting then rebuilding our kitchen and family room,
the front entry and much of our hallway. We found working with Kevin and Trent very easy as they quickly
understood the concepts that we were after, worked to integrate our kitchen designer's plans, anticipated the
structural and other challenges and developed elegant solutions. Upon giving the go-ahead the process of
preconstruction meetings really helped make sure that we were on the same page about what would happen
and the scheduling. During the work we found that both the Oakwood workers and the sub-trades were both
professional and friendly. Patricia, Sharon and Trent were very responsive in addressing the inevitable issues
that came up during the work. We also had occasion to call upon Oakwood for some post-project service. Again
the response and service provided was prompt and professional.
We're really enjoying our expanded kitchen and our opened-up front entrance. The project has given our 1970s
era house an up-to-date feel and makes entertaining much more enjoyable. Thanks so much to Oakwood for
making it happen!
Oakwood’s designer presented the only functional, and the most attractive design, that fit within our budget.
Oakwood also provided a list of suppliers, which assisted us considerably and made our part of the job much easier. The
spread sheet they provided spelled out exactly what decisions we had to make and when they had to be made. They
even took it upon themselves to find a company to perform an energy audit for us, after we had been unsuccessful in
finding one who could perform the audit on short notice.
The work started when we were told it would and by the end of the first day our sorry old kitchen was reduced to
a shell. The rest of the project went smoothly, and most delays occurred due to unforeseen circumstances (Quebec
construction summer shutdown), and our own decision to replace knob & tube wiring that was discovered during
The workers were all top notch and professional. Special thanks to Trent, Stephanie, Sharon and Patricia for their
patience. Weekly meetings with Trent kept us informed of progress and eased concerns, and design changes or
construction concerns were promptly addressed and resolved. In fact, in the evenings when we inspected work that
had been done during the day, we occasionally had an "issue" with something. Quite often Trent would point out the
exact "issue" to us before we had the chance to mention it to him.
After watching renovation horror stories on television, and living in a house built in the late 1930s, we were half
expecting to live our own horror story. Luckily for us, there were very few problems. As renovation ‘virgins’, we could
not have asked for a better company to guide us through the process and to perform the work. Oakwood’s attention to
detail was very much appreciated and as they say, it is the little things that make the difference.
We now know why Oakwood has been in business for so many years and why we see so many of their signs in our
neighborhood. Our only complaint is that we have to wait a year or two before embarking on the next renovation
It was a big decision to change our little bungalow into a 2 story house, but once we sat down with the design
team, our ideas and the ones provided by Oakwood melded very well. As the build began, Trent Doherty
(production manager) would suggest ways to optimize the living/dining room space, so that now it is a
spectacular area with the sun shining through the windows.
Our favorite location is our master suite with its wonderfully tiled en-suite bathroom and awesome balcony on
which we spend many a restful moment.
The process was suggested to be 6 months. It was in fact finished in the specified time frame and within the
agreed upon budget.
Overall, the very stressful endeavor of home renovation was made easy by Oakwood. They answered questions
and were always there if any problems arose. The site was always kept clean and tidy and the subcontractors
were very professional. We have no hesitation in recommending Oakwood to our family and friends. The company showed itself to be the renovation experts and we are happy to "show off' our new home. Our new home is so much like we envisioned that it is hard to remember our little red bungalow.
Congratulations for a job well done! We love it!
We would definitely recommend OakWood.
At the early stages, our designer, Julie, helped us formulate our ideal project while still staying within our budget. She really listened to us and created a design that blended our sometimes conflicting aesthetics (shaggy chic versus contemporary modern). When construction began, the workers did their best to minimize the disruption for us. They followed a schedule and cleaned up before they left. Our project manager, Trent, met with us on a weekly basis
so we were always kept in the loop and understood where we were in the process. A couple of times, we asked for slight modifications and Oakwood graciously worked with us to accommodate our request. The final result is fabulous. Our new kitchen is absolutely gorgeous and incredibly functional. We have since thrown numerous dinner parties and have received so many compliments on it. Our bathroom is a dream. While it is a whimsical and romantic space, it is also equally functional. All toiletries now have a place in the custom-made vanity and so the stunning granite counter is always on beautiful display. And our friends keep coming over to take a bath!
The renovations have increased the pleasure we get from our house ten-fold. And if we needed future renovations, we would not hesitate to use Oakwood again.
From our first encounter with Kevin, we knew that OakWood represented quality and service. Our new kitchen and surrounding areas are a testimony to the professionalism, dedication and workmanship of Oakwood staff and contractors. We were very impressed with your responsiveness and your ability to resolve issues quickly and satisfactorily. The availability of a detailed work schedule, which you followed contrary to our prior experience with the construction industry, made our planning and living much easier. Our friends are amazed that the project was completed on schedule and without any surprises. Your timely change order process was instrumental in helping us make decisions on upgrades and in keeping track of our expenses.
We have received compliments from all our friends and guests on the final design and the quality of the workmanship of our new kitchen. We are proud to tell them that OakWood was our contractor and that we recommend your company to anyone considering renovation projects. Again, all our thanks to you and all the OakWood staff for this great success.
The Oakwood Team undertook a new addition, as well as the complete inside and outside renovation of our home. Oakwood committed to having the work completed within the specified time, and much to our amazement came in on time and on budget. All of the workers who entered our home were respectful and courteous. They left things clean and tidy.
Oakwood is amazing, the house needed a lot of miscellaneous work including wood floor repair, dry wall, painting, plumbing, kitchen renovations, new roof, siding, etc.
Oakwood went out of their way to make us continue to feel comfortable in our home despite the sheer number of workers that were sometimes in our house.
Our New Addition looks great as if it was always there. John Liptak is not only a master at his craft but his renovating team are total professionals.
Everyone that has seen our renovations are so impressed with the quality of work and superb finishes, quality craftsmanship and work ethics. I am pleased to say that Oakwood surpassed my expectations.
Nothing short of exceptional, Thank you John Liptak and the Oakwood Team
We were looking for not only the best value for our money, but received a bonus, as they provided us with a stress-free experience! The proof is in the final product – we couldn’t be happier with our new addition and new home!
With out a doubt we will be hiring Oakwood to remodel our next house. I will be recommending Oakwood Renovations to all of my family and friends.
