Novia Mia, Bridal and Evening Wear

My daughter visited the store in November of 2015 for her July 2016 wedding. The service was great and she found a dress she loved. She was told by the store to not call about the dress' status until closer to the delivery date which was the end of May/beginning of June. She called about the third week of May and was told that the order had not been received by the dress manufacturer. She later found out that the dress had NEVER been ordered. Incredible incompetence! We were told that there is currently no follow up or tracking protocols for purchases.

The owner of the store was apologetic, did come up with some solutions and was easy to deal with however the manager was very difficult to deal with (rude) and offered very little in the way of compensation. The sample dress in the store was in her size but not the colour she wanted. She was offered this used sample dress in the wrong color and the boutique said they would pay for any alterations and cleaning. Unfortunately in the end they did not pay for everything they promised. and only offered to reduce the price of the dress by $300.00. This is not much when you consider the angst my daughter went through plus the fact that she was offered a used dress in the wrong color.

I am sure this very poor customer service is not the way the store wants to conduct business. A wedding dress is the most important purchase a bride makes. The way this situation was handled was very, very poor. We hope others can read this and be cautious so you don't experience the same disappointment in service and on your wedding day when you are wearing the wrong dress.

I went everywhere in the city and was not able to find "the dress" but the moment I walked in their beautiful store I knew this was the place where I would find my gown. The service is incredible, the selection... Outstanding and all I want to do is come back and keep having the amazing experience I had! Can't wait to go back when my dress is in :)

Horrible business ethics. Will lie about the size you need and the cost of the alterations to make a sale. This business tries to take as much money from you as possible and could care less about a bride having a positive experience.

First I would have to say such a cute shop. I would recommend this place to everyone I know it was such a great experience Adriana was amazing and helpful, she would ask my six year old is this dress the right one if she said no then she would pull other ei found my dress in an hour soooooo happy and the prices are comparable to others. Similar to the other reviews on here, the problems for me started as soon as I received my dress.

Let's start with the good things: their collections are beautiful, they fit me in for a VIP appointment with short notice, and their shop is adorable.

Now, for the bad.
I am a size 8 on the top, and a size 10 on the bottom - with (like many women) my widest measurements being at my hips. When I explained to them that I was wanting something lace and backless - they brought me a "fit and flare" style of dress. The sample that I tried on was a size 8, and was obviously quite tight around the hips - but they assured me that they would order the correct size and it could be altered and hemmed "no problem".

What they failed to tell me, was that this particular style of dress would have to be altered CONSIDERABLY to work with my frame. When you shop here you expect to be in the hands of professionals at a premiere Bridal Shop and as such, to suggest gowns that work well for your body - this did not happen.

Of course, you could make the argument that I could have asked for another style of dress, and not left it up to them to make suggestions - so moving past that, brings me to the biggest problem I had.

THE HEM.
The wedding dress that I ordered, has a very intricate scalloped lace hem. I am 6"0 tall and even then - the dress was MUCH too long. I was assured by Novia Mia that all of their dresses come with a piece that can be removed easily and that hemming would not be an issue.

This was not the case.
I took my dress to one of the best seamstresses in the city, and while she could remove this mystery "piece" they referred to - she still had to redo all of the lacework piece by piece. This was then the most difficult and expensive part of the alteration, adding $300 easily onto my bill.

This dress was already over my budget, and with the alteration it was a further $750 over. While the dress is beautiful and my amazing seamstress could make it work for the day, it cost me way more than I signed up for.

Long story short, I ended up feeling very mislead by Novia Mia - and frustrated by how much money I had to spend to make my dream dress work.

If you're looking for a beautiful dress you will find it there, but I advise serious caution if you are needing any kind of alterations or special requests for sizing.

My experience with this store regarding maid of honor dresses has been horrible. Put your money where it's worth it not at this store totally disorganized giving miss information not knowing if the dress is onsite or has been picked up or has even arrived yet and do not hold themselves accountable for anything I am a month away from a wedding and stressed out now due to there lack of good business management extremely not impressed and sorry I went with them. I have only heard as well from other brides that all there experiences where like this now.

Similar to those who complain about the wrong size being ordered, mine was ordered too big and in the wrong length despite me ordering custom length and sending in my shoe height. My dress is a corset back, so I felt comfortable that adjustments could be made if I gained or lost weight. However, they insisted on a size 10 for my 5'1" frame. The dress is WAY too big, the corset just folds over itself. They sent me to their seamstress, yes, Carmen - the owner's mother. She did a very poor job and does not guarantee her work. She will take your money and if you're not satisfied, she will tell you it's not her problem. She will also charge you $$$ for the smallest alterations. Save yourself the stress and don't buy your dress here. If you like one of the particular brands, do some research and get it somewhere else.

I ordered my dress 6 months ago and it was everything I wanted. The girls at Novia Mia were amazing not only did they help me to find the perfect dress they also went above and beyond with their service My mother and my bridesmaids also ordered their dresses and everything was perfect! thank you thank you thank you!!!!!! I couldn't have hoped for a better experience!!!

the worst bridal shop ever. I was pressured to ordering a dress and was not told that it would be final sale. Next morning I called and canceled the order, so the order didn't even go through. But the owner still doesn't want to give back the deposit. I have never seen any thing like this. So despite to make money but not the right way to do business.

My daughter and I had a disastrous experience I would not like any other bride to go though. The trying on and ordering of the dress went well. However when the dress arrived it was not what we had ordered and the following points outline what we found with the dress:
The dress was too tight - the bride had not changed in weight or size - the sales person said she must have gained weight. There was no other reason. The sales person didn't check to see if it was tight, she would do nothing, not even touch the dress to feel that it was tight.
We had requested a reduction in the amount of fabric in one area of the dress. This was done however it appeared that the fabric was reduced to all areas of the dress which made the dress look very different from the sample and not what my daughter wanted nor what we had ordered.

We were told that Novia Mia's seamstress would see what she could do. We were not confident that the sales person cared what we thought of the dress. I was not comfortable going to Novia Mia's seamstress as I had read reviews that were not satisfactory about her. She is also the mother of one of the owners. We paid for the dress and left. This was a mistake as the owner didn't want anything to do with us we left the store. Please note that no where on Novia Mia's receipt does it say final sale or no returns.

We took the dress to a reputable seamstress who found the following:
The inner layer of the dress was made for a mermaid style dress not the A line style we had ordered. This was one reason it was so tight on my daughter.
The third layer of the dress had a mistake in the cutting of the dress where a 2.5 inch cut had been made in the wrong place. Instead of replacing this piece of fabric they used it and made the dress 2'5 inches tighter. This same layer was cut salvage to salvage rather than on the bias. When a fabric for a skirt is not cut on the bias there is not swing and the fabric cannot drape of. Draping was an important part of the design of the dress.

The result was except for the sleeveless top the entire dress had to be remade and we had to purchase new fabric due to the mistakes in cutting there was not enough to make the dress.

When I approached Adrianna, one of the owners, she was not helpful. We had pictures of my daughter in the sample dress and the dress the arrived for her and you could see that they were very different. First she tried to deny everything I showed and explained to her. She gave me conflicting information. For example on the phone I asked her if she checked every ordered dress that came into the store she said no. When I met with her in person she told me she thoroughly checks every dress when it arrives. She tired to tell me it was due to the changes we made to the dress that had caused the problems. When I showed her on the sample dress what had occurred on my daughters she admitted that a mistake may have been made.

I asked for her to pay for the alterations of the dress which she refused. She stated once you have taken the dress from the store that there is nothing she can do. She offered us a beaded belt and a beaded hair comb in compensation claiming that together they had a value of offer $500.00.

When I picked up the veil the comb on the veil had been sewn on backwards.
When the first pictures of the wedding were posted on Facebook Novia Mia liked it immediately. By then it was not their dress. Which means they didn’t learn anything from their mistake?

Since this experience my daughter and I have spoken with a number of people that have had issues with Novia Mia. In summation I would say that if your dress comes in fitting right you may be ok however a friend of my daughters did have a dress that fit well when it arrived however by the end of her wedding all the buttons had fallen off of the back of her dress.

The service we received at Novia Mia was nothing but dreadful. Very sad when it is supposed to be a happy time. Thank heavens for our seamstress who saved the dress.

I had only been to one store but it was there that they told me i did not have enough time to order my dream dress even though my wedding was still six months away. Needless to say i was extremely frustrated and sad. We decided to try going to the bridal fair. It was there i was introduced to novia mia. They had a stunning gown in the fashion show.

I got in contact with adrianna and was able to meet with her about actually making my dream dress. The dress turned out beautifully. I got many compliments on our day and do not have any regrets.

The very best part about it all was that it was affordable!

These Ladies were absolutely fantastic when it came to my wedding dress. They listen to what I wanted and did an amazing job of getting a dress that fit my vision. They were so interested in my life and even asked for photos afterwards. Very personal experience and the dress turned out AMAZING!!!

I had ordered five bridesmaid dresses and was under the impression they were made to measure by the staff. The owner took the measurements. She explained that they would need maybe slight alteration but that would be all. When the dresses arrived they were massive , easily 7" on some of them and the length of the dresses were all over the map. They explained that it must have been the bras the girls were wearing. If anyone knows where I can get a 7" bra please let us know?!?!? When we confronted the ower about the issue she refused to admit any part of the mistake or take any responsibility. The alteration person she sent us to (her mom) originally ruined the first dress we took to her and the second alteration lady laughed at what had been done. She couldnt believe what she had done.The second lady nhu, was amazing, highly recommended her. She saved the day as this all occured 3 weeks before my wedding. She took the dresses apart and told us that the top potion would have ripped apart from the skirt as it wasn't even sewn together properly, zippers weren't centered and each dress was a complete mess. After a whole month of arguing with the owner, she finally took responsibilityodor 3 of the dresses and paid for te dressed to be fixed. I Paid $200 per dress and to have the alteration on one dress to fix it was $120. The owner paid this but if she didn't it would be more then half of the original cost of the dress to have it be wearable. I highly suggest you stay away from this place if you don't want a headache and disappointment. We could have gone to bcbg and found dresses that fit and were crafted better. Terrible customer service and the owner compulsively lied about everything. I just hope nobody else suffers the stress we did!

Talk about good service and product.. Novia Mia is a private Shop in Kensington that offered me the best shopping experience. All of my wedding party loved them and we all ended up ordering a dress, they helped me pick a different style for all my bridesmaids and a fabulous gown for me. I totally recommend them
