Dormaster Garage Doors & Windows

I called Dormaster for what should have been a simple repair - replace the two cables on my garage door which had broken. Initially, I called into the service line and was quoted $55 for the service call and $58 for a pair of "tension tested" cables. Upon arriving at my home, the technician also suggested that I replace the brackets ($78) which had rusted. After starting the work, the technician then advised that he was concerned the existing spring was too weak to be reset and would need to be replaced. I was quoted an additional $160 for this and told that he could not proceed until I gave the go ahead to replace the spring. I decided I needed a second opinion. At the end of the day, I spent over $200 and still did not have a garage door that worked. The next day, I contacted a local company. They charged me $29 for the service call, which was refunded if I did the follow on work with them. The local company reset the spring on the door Dormaster had worked on for $45. They also did the exact same work on my second door for a fraction of the cost. (Cables - $25, Brackets - $25, Spring Reset - $45). Lesson learned on my part!!!

I had a bad experience with the service engineer from doormaster.ca (also promaster.ca) - 1877-636-6770. The garage door was just not closing all the way down. I explained the problem and he told right away that it would cost 500$ plus to open the entire thing out and look at the issue. I was pretty sure that that wasnt the case and it was a small problem. He was telling me that he couldn't even open the garage door manually. I wasn't ready for 500$ plus and told him that I need to check and get back. He said I need to pay 45$ plus tax for service fees which I did for his one minute (no) job. After he left I could engage the motor and the garage was able to open which he didn't even try. I called the service guy again to inform him of this and he told even if we would come and take a look he would tell the same thing as before (i.e. the 500$ stuff)....PATHETIC... I called my friend later that evening and all that was required was a slight push on the bent track that made the garage door close fully. It was a 2 minute fix from friend who just studied the problem, he wasn't any expert. This service guy was totally useless and couldnt figure out that the track was slightly bent. The modus operandi of these guys is to come to service calls, simply tell the customer that it would cost a lot of money, scare the customer then take the service call fee and go away. Bunch of incompetent people who just rip off customers. Don't lose 45$ like I did. Stay away !!!. I give a rating of one because he atleast showed up on time, else ZERO !!

The call center want all the jobs and the technician comes wants to charge the call out fee even if they cannot do the job to customer satisfation.

Payment in advance for a job from these guys is risky. I don't think they talk the truth.
