A Moving Picture Studios, Winnipeg Reviews (1)
Whatever the shiny exterior of this product, any potential client or employee MUST know that the owner of this shady business, Sean Philips, peddles in SLAVE LABOUR.
He hired me as a video editor, giving me the footage of one of his high profile clients, and tried to make it seem like he had not hired me, as he underestimated the amount of work and then refused to pay me after I did it. He then ignored my calls and emails for a month, and then stood me up for a meeting at his house; he had to rely on his mommy-in-law to tell me that he had accidentally double-booked himself at the last minute. Meanwhile, he would call me to help him record events only to cancel immediately after or not respond. When I finally had a meeting with him about the work I did, he became angry and threatening at the mere suggestion that I should get paid for the work I did. He said, "My answer to that would be a firm no." When I said I should at least get paid for half of what we had agreed to before finishing the project, he said he'd think about it. When I talked to him again later he hung up on me when I mentioned pay, then emailed me saying never to call him again.
I reported him to EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS and, fortunately, after investigating they took my side and they forced him to pay me, albeit at a lesser rate than what we had agreed to. Never give your business or service to this untrustworthy exploitative man. If you do, you could be supporting illegal and exploitative labour practices (or, in any case, a history thereof), and secondly you don't know where your private intimate footage will end up: as he freely sends it out to any stranger whom he thinks will work for him for free!!!!
