I've taken my dog once & my cats multiple times to Barry. I've never had a problem at all & Barry has always done an excellent job at a very fair price. The reason I started using Barry was because other "groomers" wouldn't touch my cats unless they were sedated, or they would do a complete butcher job that I could've just done myself.

When I brought my shitzu poodle in for a hair cut, he did such a fantastic job especially for the fact that her hair was all tangled and we couldnt get it out. When we picked her up she looked amazing and smelled like a new born baby! I recommend you guys go there! He also asks what you want to do for example if you want to leave the tail how it is and the ears or whatever you want.

We booked with Barry because he could take our dog short notice. I read reviews here and thought some sounded a little dodgy as there were some repeated phrases and names as if they had been doctored. still Barry seemed nice so we went ahead with the appointment. He completely butchered one of our dogs, scraping him in areas that were very red and taking all the hair off with no style. He also shaved too close on his lip on one side. my other puppy wouldn't stop licking his tail for a week as his tail is somehow injured. I don't recommend this company even if you're desperate!

I have a very large dog, who is usually a big baby. Until its time to get his nails trimmed. Barry SAVED my dog from being sedated, my vet and 2 of her employees couldn't even do the trimming. They told me I would have to pay $150 to sedate him. I went to 3 other dog grooming companys that were unsuccessful.

Barry made me feel very comfortable on the phone, and told me that we WANTED to give it a try. He works with big dogs all the time and understands them. Barry made us an appointment the very next day. I had my doubts walking in, but Barry welcomed us in and introduced himself to my dog. Before i knew we were walking out with trimmed nails. YAY!!!

I know that theirs lots of other pet owners out there with the same issues, Barry is your guy. He's gental and strong, but most important he gets the job done!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH BARRY!!!!!!

Barry is awesome, I took my dog everywhere to get his nails cut. No one could do it, my vet and 2 of her employees couldn't even do it. They said my last opition is sedation. Until I found Paws on Portage. Thank you so much Barry. If you have a large dog that hates getting his nails cut, Barry is your man!!!!!!!!

I took my puppy (maltese mix) to paw on portage for the second. The first we made to Barry he seemed okay at first, but then every time we would lift/carry him he would cry. We then found out that his leg had a wound from over shaving. We decided that it couldve been an honest mistake so we took him another time. We paid 60 dollars for our puppy's grooming, when it should of been 50. We were overcharged by ten dollars. After his second grooming appointment, he came back with not only a cut eye lid, but also scratches and small cuts on his belly and close to his private part. Its been 5 days now, the poor thing still can't walk and does not stop crying. We took him to the vet this morning, only to find out that his shaking/shiver is not due to him being chilly, but because he is now traumatized. We will be returning to the vet four days from now to get his surgery done. I do not at all recommend anyone to come to paws on portage. We have decided to do our puppy's grooming from now on.

Great service. I belive Berry is the owner and he takes such good care of my Gucci. The prices are fair and the location is great for me. His hours are always convenient . Plus on a sunday one time he opened his doors to groom Gucci. Good choice!

I took my toy poodle there, and he ended up with a broken back (2 broken vertebrae); the girls did not tell me he was injured when I came to pick him up, and I had to notify the shop owner, Barry. Despite being reassured by Barry that my vet bill would be paid for as my dog was healthy when he arrived and not heaalthy when I picked him up - I have yet to receive my payment. I will not be returning.

The work there is done well I took my dog in for grooming and the girls there were friendly and did amazing work on my little one, however I did notice I was over charged. The price for grooming a small dog I was told was $45 plus tax and when it came to $51.30 I took 45 and multiplied it by what Manitoba taxes are which is 0.12% and my total should have been $50.40. He is charging 0.14% tax. That is fraud. Will not go again. Check your recipts people pay attention or you will be takin advantage of.

That has got to be stupidest thing I have ever read. You gave a half a star because he overcharged you by 70 cents, but everything else was good? I have gone there ever since he has opened and has always been fair with his pricing and my dog loves him.

The qwner took my dogs in and bathed and de-shedded and they were beautiful. This is the only place I take all three of my dogs. Keep up the great work folks...

need i say more! I've brought both my felines there and they always come back with their nails clipped and smelling like a pina colada (which is strange but unusually pleasant) they don't seem stressed out at all.

my only concern is the fact that the owner's dog always barks to greet my cats when we come in.. which scares the crap out of both of them understandably...it would be nice to maybe separate the three until they get settled.

I took my miniature schnauzer there, and not only did he forget to pluck his ears BOTH times after I specifically asked (and he wrote it down) but he didn't cut the hair in the style that I requested, leaving my poor guy looking like the might be a poodle gone wrong.

He was very kind and friendly, my dog had a great time, and still tries to go in every time we go on a walk past the building.

I found another groomer in the area that listens to me, and charges HALF the price.

I wish I had read your review prior to taking my airedale for grooming. I called for an appt., the owner told me he could accomodate me that day. i was initially thrilled. when i arrived, he was talking about the number of appts he had for the day. My dog was there for 6 hours, he had obviously over scheduled his appointments. Not only did he not give the cut requested, the cut was not complete. he didn't bother to trim the ears or the tail...because he the owner thought it looked cute. i didn't request what the owner thought, i requested an airedale show cut. The cut was choppy and incomplete. In my opinion he does not know what he is doing. My dog was so stressed out from the visit. Needless to say, i will not be returning. I would not recommend Paws on Portage to any pet owner.

I took my Lab there once before and Barry did a great job, aside from bringing that home-grown customer service to the table. Going again soon.

They did a great job with my 9 year old Boarder Collie/Lab. They spent numerous hours combing her out and not only did it make her look fantastic, but it also drastically reduced the amount of hair she shed.

I will be more then happy to take her back there!

I brought my dog in to have her nails clipped. She gets really excited and fights it pretty hard, but the groomer was really gentle and patient with her. He got the job done quickly and kept talk and joking throughout the procedure, despite being snapped at once! I will definitely go back again.

I brought my fussy little Pomeranian a few times to this place because a friend of mine had recommended it to me. The groomers are very patient, friendly and knowledgeable, they know what they're doing and their prices are very reasonable. I used to bring my dog to the groomers at Petcetera on Regent and they didn't do as good of a job, on top of that they charged too much per visit. I would definitely recommend Paws On Portage to anybody who had to pay too much for grooming and who had bad experiences with previous groomers. This place is for you and you won't regret it!

We have three dogs and have taken our larger dog to get groomed by Barry and his staff. We had another one of dogs get his nails trimmed, which can be a nerve-racking process for both dog and owner. Great with animals and people, especially Barry who was gentle and patient with our small dog. They groomed our larger dog beautifully and prices were reasonable and competitive. I would not hesitate to take your pets to Paws on Portage.
