As the west Queen street west scene continues to evolve, the need, want, and desire to provide a new and authentic experience culminated, and when it became apparent that the time was right, COCA, a Mediterranean inspired tapas bar was born. Located across the street from sister restaurant CZEHOSKI, COCA found her home when a piece of prime real estate became available and owners just couldn't resist. The incredible space had previously played host to several bizarre and perhaps questionable or illicit businesses. Some wonder whether this might have been a contributing factor in the naming of the new joint across the street, but no one really knows for sure. The place needed some work. With a little TLC it didn't take long to reveal the true character that lay quietly under layers of botched renovation. Once stripped down and brought back to its original splendor, and along with some careful embellishment, it became undeniably apparent that 783 Queen Street West was no doubt to be the home of COCA Commissary.
Similar in architecture to Czehoski, both restaurants have rooted in the original 1890's block row buildings that were developed as emerging retail and residential space. Neighbouring COCA also occupies the entire building allowing the interior of the restaurant to create three different environments......
