Zafferano, Woodbridge Reviews (2)
great italian restaurant. food, ambiance, service...all great!
I asked a friend who lives in Woodbridge what the best restaurant in Woodbridge was. Zafferano was the answer. I checked it our online and it seemed to have good reviews, so off we went.
The place was packed and someone else who tried to get a table without a reservation was told that there was no room so it was a good thing we had a reservation. We were seated immediately and the waiter came right over to offer us drinks. We decided to have "house wine". We had the Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc. Both were excellent - better than we would ever have expected for the house wine.
The ambiance was lovely. Very richly Italian (not checkered tablecloths but dark and rich like a nice castle). It was a little noisy but as it was packed, what would you expect?
When we perused the menu, we noticed that the prices were more than reasonable; amazing actually. There were so many choices it took a while to read the menu. Everything sounded so good and there was definitely something for every taste. As appetizers, we ordered the calamari fritti, caprese salad and ceasar salad. All the portions were large and the flavours were excellent. Calamari came as huge circles, which you would assume could be chewy because the pieces were so big. Nope, they were tender and delicious. Dressings on the salad were superb.
Dinners were trout special, tilapia, seafood platter and risotto with seafood. All were perfect. The seafood platter included 1/2 lobster, shrimp, calamari, mussels, scallops, etc. and cost $29.00. The risotto included all of the same seafood items (but less of each) including the 1/2 lobster and cost $18.00. Amazing! And the taste of the risotto (that was mine) was mouth watering. All of it was so fresh! The tilapia came with cabbage so we requested some veggies and potatoes as well and it came in 2 minutes. The waiters were so attentive and there as soon as we needed them but never hovered.
Do I sound like I loved the place? Well we all walked out of there amazed at how good the food was, how reasonable the prices were and how much we enjoyed the evening.
The only possible negative was the length of time we waited between the appetizers and the main course, which seemed a little excessive, but it's much better than being rushed and we were spending the evening in a lovely place so what's the hurry?
Try this place! You won't be disappointed. I promise! Sorry I forgot to take pictures, but I will be going back so I will add pictures next time. In the interim, check out their web site.
