Perfect Groomer - Tara O., has been our dog's groomer for the past couple of years, since Bella, our Polish Lowland Sheepdog, was a puppy. Through Bella's Petsmart Training, we decided to try their grooming salon, given that we could watch the groomer with our dog. We noticed that one of their groomers, Tara O., seemed to exhibit an experienced technique handling dogs, so we decided to give her a try. We immediately noticed that she was easy to talk to, considerate of Bella's needs, and we now have no worries leaving Bella in her care during grooming appointments. Tara treats us with the same respectful manner that she extends to Bella, and it is obvious that Tara clearly has proven experience handling dogs. Tara does an excellent job grooming Bella, she follows direction well, and demonstrates kindness while handling our little girl. Thanks for taking such good care of our Bella, and using "gentle-hands techniques". It's obvious that you enjoy your chosen career, because you're truly the Perfect Groomer. Proud to be your customer - you're a special person!

The Pets Hotel there right now is no longer like what it describe on the website and shown in the video, it is horrible, if you pay $27 plus tax, you are locked up in a cage with hardly any light and head room. The so called Atrim is a stupid corridor, not like anything you see in the video. If you pay $37 plus tax, you will be in a glass cuby, look nicer, but still no runs, no nothing. If you wants to have any activity and with other dogs, you got to pay for the extra full price of the doggy day camp, and it adds up to almost to over $60 plus tax,, Ooooch :(
That place sucks, it is worse than any kennel I ever been, no grass, no nice walks, no nothing. There is a small concrete space with a drain for the dogs to poo or pee shown on the monitor. The girl with the pony tail was mean and nasty, she wouldn't even gave us a tour and asked us to peep from the gate outside, she told the receptionist that she will do the tour, but she did absolately nothing. She lied and said they got 150 dogs to look after, I DO NOT BELIEVE IT AT ALL. I only saw a sad miserable poor Labador standing in a cage. Me, Australian Sheppard being so clean and full of energy will never wanted to be caged up there. My master was being promised a tour by a nice chap called Nicholas, but when we got there, this stupid girl just tried to shove us away so she do not have to do nothing. Other staff in other Petsmart always greets me, called me by my name, the one in Newmarket, all staff were nice and friendly. Unfortunately, there is no pets hotel. Perhaps at one time even the $27 plus tax one is in a smaller glass cuby, it is no longer the case, they are cages. I would like to ask that nasty girl with the pony tail to go into those cage and see how she felt, she might like it as then she will not have to do her job at all, lying there doing nothing since she is so ignorant and lazy anyway ! Never ever go to that Pets Hotel in Richmond Hill, or you will be so sorry !

I always bring by dog to this location since it is the only petsmart with a Doggy Hotel and Day Camp service. The employees at the doggy hotel are great and extremely patient and very nice. MY dog loves going to there and always bolts straight through the doggy day camp doors as soon as we check-in. I barely get any problems except for the long wait at the counter somtimes since they are always overwhelmed with customers and not enough employees to help out at the front. Overall, service is great.

I just visited that place on Aug. 7, 2013. It is nothing like that, it is terrible :-

I love going to this store to get all of the stuff for my cats, the scratching posts, the little carpet cat houses, cat toys, etc. So I'm there, doing my thing, you know, looking around, thinking about what to get for my cats. Then this little hot wheels car hits me on the foot. I'm like, "what the heck?" This isn't a hot wheels store, ok, so I know something's up. I look over and see this kid coming to get his hot wheels toy, and I'm like, "whoah there, little guy", and he just takes the car and takes off! Gimme a break! What's with that kid running around??

What does this have to do with the customer service at Petsmart?

I HAD been taking my Yorkiepoo for grooming, started as a pup, to Petsmart. I always made a point of asking the groomer if my dog behaved and was ALWAYS told "yes". Then after 3 years my dog was BLACKLISTED from the grooming part of the store because I was told that she had always been a "problem",..biting etc. Talked to the grooming supervisor who couldn't understand why I wasn't told about this. I do...it's called MONEY!! Also, my dog had to be muzzled for even her bath. But at home she would literally jump into the tub!
Finally found a private groomer who understands dogs and now my dog is well groomed and happy. Gives this groomer nary a problem and always a kiss good bye!
STAY AWAY FROM PETSMART FOR GROOMING!! They're out to make a buck and know little if anything about dog behavior!
Comment by prpllunchbox on Oct 24, 2011
This doesn't make any sense to me because Petsmart does not muzzle any Yorkies or Poodles. Nor do they EVER muzzle a dog for the bath. It is against company policy to muzzle those breeds under any circumstance.
Comment by Jaysacs on May 25, 2013
Yeah, this is a huge lie. There are policies against muzzling certain breeds and yorkies AND poodles are two of them. Also, a dog is never muzzled in the bath. If your dog was biting, it would be sent home immediately. Sounds pretty BS to me.

I have consistently found the staff to be warm and extremely helpful no matter what I ask or how much of their time I take up. I leave the store with a smile on my face every time! The prices may be a bit higher for certain products, but it's well worth it in my opinion, because of the genuinely caring staff and excellent service!!!

This spring of 2010 I had taken my dog for a grooming. I have taken our two dogs at the Petsmart, Regina location for years. Well this spring was my last visit. When I picked my dog up she seemed unusual and shaking. She shook for two days and never left her dog bed. When I started checking her over she had lots of dried blood spots in her ears and had been burnt on her face (I assume a shaver).
When I contacted the groomer directly (where I didn't want to get her in trouble) she did not have a good reason and said they were very busy. I found out that she had given her notice but that was no excuse as well. I then contacted the store manager where all he said was the very same thing. I did not think that was very professional and I explained that I would bring my dog in to show him. He showed no remorse. When I explained to him that I would not be taking my dogs back to Petsmart he said he was sorry to hear that and that was it. I did assume that he would return my $$ at least for the cut or offer something for the terrible experience my dog had gone through, but nothing.
I have been taking my dogs there for years, but no more. STAY AWAY FROM PETSMART.

I agree that the manager at this location is terrible. Her name was Sarah I believe. She was rude and unkind. But there is the most wonderful groomer named Jacqueline, that helped me with my difficult dog who was a nervous old man. I will never forget her patience, compassion and understanding. Five stars to this fabulous lady!

This Petsmart has by far the best setup for their hermit crabs that I have seen yet. There were about 7 of them in the tank and many of them were very active. The temperature and humidity was perfect (which is very rare for a pet store). My one complaint is that they probably should have had more substrate. I don't remember checking the water/food dishes. I did not have time to check out the rest of the store but it seemed well stocked. Overall, I had a great experience at this store and I will be going back soon!

While I have had great experiences at other Petsmarts, everytime I attempt to bring my dog into the Petsmart at High Tech Road (I continue to try, bc this is the closest store to me)- I receive nothing but rudeness at the grooming.

They are incompetent and condescending.

I would not give the individuals who work there (there are specifically 3 women who I have dealt with there who have been nothing but rude) my dog or any other animal.

Wow... While I haven't used the groomer at this location I have never run into any rude employees! The people in the PetsHotel here are really nice and everyone walking around is really friendly too. It's too bad to hear that about the groomers...

We take our dog there all the time and have referred others to this particular store. We love the job they do and are always ready to do anything special that we ask and touch up things that we might notice. Everyone is always asking where we get our dog groomed as she never looks "freshly groomed" and has never been shaved. We love this place!

I go here all the time for all my animal needs! We just love bringing our puggle puppy with us, and he loves coming. Last time he picked out his own toy! The staff there are pretty good too, very helpful. I really like the PetPerks club you can join for discounts... I often get like $5 off the big bags of food, which adds up! The doggie clothes are really cute, but kind of expensive...

I always went to Petsmart to groom my bichon and they always did an amazing job but I did have a bad encounter the past week.
However, fur grows back and we did get a reimbursement for the poor job. Great Service!

Many people are wary that since Petsmart is a big chain store, they will not take as much care in their pet grooming as a small, private groomer would. They are definitely wrong because Petsmart listens to the customer more than any other place! If you have been there before, right when you walk in, they remember your dog even though they have thousands of customers. They ask you exactly what you want done (how many inches of fur left, what to do to their tail, their face, their ears, etc.) and will follow your instructions to a tee. They quote about 4 hours for a full groom (bath, brush, cut, nail trim, ear cleaning, etc.) but sometimes they are done in less than 2 hours and will call you right away. The whole area where they groom them (except the bath) is open so you can watch, which is very reassuring! When you go to pick your dog up, they ask you if everything is ok and will fix anything you don't like, no problem. One time I decided my dog's face hair was too long after her grooming and went back a week later and they cut it for free. Another time my dog had some mats in her fur that I couldn't get out and I brought her there and they got rid of them for free! After the groom, your dog will smell amazing and will be a wearing a cute Petsmart bandana or bows. They even do cat grooming. Overall, Petsmart grooming is a great experience and I will never bring my dog anywhere else!

That's really good to know! I also thought a big place wouldn't take as much care but now I know different. That's where I am going to take my dog from now on. Thanks!

you are right jennifer, they totally butchered benny to a point they snipped her skin around her bum and she had problems walking in the streets with the wind blowing right up there .. in her wound i mean :-) thats the leaside location. i found a cute little dog boutique with excellent customer service, personal approach and love for the animals.
Comment by erika00 on Dec 03, 2007
it's interesting to see that even the big chain stores take an interest in the little dogs!
Comment by erin23 on Dec 03, 2007
which dog boutique do you take your dog to?
Comment by jennifer on Dec 03, 2007
I think Lutz took her dog to petsmart once for a grooming.. I don't think it was good.

We actually have taken our dog to both the Richmond Hill location and the Markham location because the Richmond Hill location was not open when we first got our dog. Both locations do a great job.
Comment by erin23 on Dec 03, 2007
Hilary, did you take your dog to the Richmond Hill location as well? I wonder all the locations have such good groomers.
Comment by hilary on Dec 03, 2007
I completely agree with you. I only take my dog to Petsmart for grooming. Great to see that someone else shares the same opinion as I do. I find them to be very professional. We have never had any complaints with the grooming our dog has had at Petsmart.

Hi erin, it's pet cuisine .. check out a review i did on them , this is the yonge & eglinton location ... nothing feels worse than coming to pick up your puppy from the groomers and finding it looking like something between a rat and a weazel. :-)
Comment by erin23 on Dec 07, 2007
great to hear you enjoy them too danam!
Comment by DanaM on Dec 07, 2007
I bring my dog here and i love how they put in their computer exactly what they do to your dog so they can remember for next time. Also, they have a book of haircuts that you can choose from in case you have no idea what you want. I love watching my dog get her haircut through the glass but I make sure to hide so she doesn't see me and get too excited! Petsmart also always sends me coupons by email and sometimes I can save up to $10 on grooming. Very fair company and great grooming job. Very true review!
