Same happened to our group of families in August 2014 end. The management knew of the Algae problem since Friday. It turned out that there was an algae bloom, making the beach and lake unsafe and unusable for us and our families including children. They did not bother to inform us. We drove 3 hours went to the cottage on Saturday afternoon with all the preparations to enjoy a good weekend and were told about the algae problem. The supervisor at the cottage also informed us that the new owner had advised not to inform the people coming on Saturday. We called the owner that day and asked him to return our deposit due to the issue. He promised us that he will look into the issue. I even called him after and then left many messages. He never returned my call even once after which proves that he is not at all interested in resolving and returning even a part of the deposit money. More importantly he unethically did not even bother to inform us after being aware of the problem a day before. We were group of 4 families with small children and had made preparation since a week before (shopping , food) and we felt very cheated due to the whole incident.

The cottage new owner and management does not even deserve 0 star.

As we were packing the car for a family week at Heart of Muskoka cottages, we called with a question only to be told the place had changed hands and to call management. It turned out that there was an algae bloom, making the beach and lake unsafe and unusable for us and our two small children. We had already made a deposit, which made finding an alternate affordable cottage very tricky. Meanwhile, my son was crying, expecting to be on his way to the cottage by now! Management or new owners really should have called given the severity of the situation. Had we not called, we would have driven 2.5 hours and had to turn around and come home.

It seems I am unable to give a rating of 0 stars, but that's what it deserves.

I have been going to the Heart of Muskoka for over eight years with a group for spring fishing and for the last four years with my family in the summer. I can speak for the spring group by saying it is one of the finest accommodations we have stayed in. The rooms are clean spacious and have everything we need to enjoy our stay. For this reason my wife, daughter and I have been going up in the summer. The grounds are perfect for children and adults alike with swings, climbers, beach volley-ball, horseshoe pits and so on. There is large open space to sit and relax with other cottagers while still being able to watch your children. There is a communal fire pit for gathering around and meeting others in the evening. The lake is very kid friendly with a sand beach with no drop off. There are plenty of water sports like kayaking, paddle-boating, water trampoline and lots of sand toys. The resort staffs are always helpful and friendly. As for the big city amenities such as the satellite TV and internet wifi we have never had a problem. We have had a rainy day or two there but with Bracebridge and Huntsville about fifteen minutes away you can always go to a movie or shop. If you are looking to spend some time in the north with your family at a family owned, family operated, family friendly cottage. This is the place you will want to stay.

We have been going here for three years and plan on going this year. When my Grandson was asked if he'd rather go to a resort with a pool there was an adamant NO. The fishing is great, the swimming area great and safe and the local golf courses for us old timers are fine. The cottages are well set up and depending on how many people are in your party , quite spacious and clean. At night ,we always have a great time organizing a community bonfire with s'mores etc etc.for any families who want to participate(thanks to my son who loves to do this)the only negative thing I have to comment on is,I wish they would replace the old motor on the fishing boat. Other than that 5 Stars out of 5

We spent a week at Heart of Mukoka last summer and booked a week for this coming summer before we had left. We found it very quiet and nice for families. It was clean and the staff was very helpful. We cant wait to head up. It would be nice to have a fire pit outside the cottages though and maybe dogs allowed. We were able to take out the boat so my 5 year old could fish too! The grounds people were friendly qnd courteous as well.

All in all it was a great vacation for my husband and 3 little ones! And we met some great people!

The Heart of Muskoka was a big surprise for us. After driving for 3 1/2 hrs., we came to a wooded area with no indication where the cottages would be. Suddenly we reached an open area with clean grounds facing the water. Our cottage was spacious and very clean and the caretakers were very accomodating. Lots of activities for all ages. The atmosphere was relaxing. Rates are affordable. We've been there 2 yrs. in a row. I highly recommend this place!

What a great place to get far, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Heart of Muskoka is hidden deep in beautiful Muskoka on Three Mile Lake, within 20-30 min drive from Bracebridge, Port Carling and Huntsville. They are located right on the lake and out of earshot of traffic.

The resort has six cabins, ranging from one to four bedrooms. The Morado clan stayed in the Birchview, which was huge and came equipped with all the ameneties - including satellite TV and fair size bedrooms. Our deck faced towards the lake where you can sip your coffee as the sunrises and hold a large family meal gathering with enough room for a bbq grill!

As their website says, they are a family friendly resort. There are lots of activities from fishing, hiking, beach volleyball, swimming, canoing, paddleboating or just vegging on the beach, my personal fave - hey, this was supposed to be a relaxing trip, afterall!

At first I was a little apprehensive when I booked it back in June, because you never know what you're going to get (see rrussell.n49.ca Hunter Creek Inn review). Even though it wasn't a typical ritzy Muskoka resort, the trip was a hit! It will be an annual excursion to Muskoka for the clan every summer visiting different resorts and we'll be happy to review all of them:)

I've loved going up north ever since a friend introduced me to Muskoka! It's beautiful, no matter what time of year you go up.
