Told over phone that installation of a watch back cover gasket is included in the price of a new gasket (elsewhere, this is an item costing a few dollars, at best) however, no estimate given over the phone, not even a range of pricing for the gasket. They maintained they have worked on this make of watch before (Fortis) and replacement of the gasket would be no problem (this is a technique, I found out later, that was used merely to get you to get you in the door). Without taking the watch apart, they priced the gasket at $17, considerably more than I had expected and on top of that, there would be an additional charge of $29 to open the watch, measure for gasket size and then install a new gasket!!! What happened to the original promise over the phone of installation included in the price of the part? A price of $17, far more than the actual value of the gasket, should have included the couple of minutes labour required for the install. Ended up just purchasing the gasket. To make the visit even more distasteful, the attitude of the gentleman involved is better suited to a flea market shyster than a respected jeweller.
Sketchy. I handed over my antique watch to get repaired because it had fallen, and developed a rattle. It took them a week to call me back with a quote. They quoted me two prices that differed by almost two hundred dollars. I asked if the rattle would be fixed with the lower price, and they said yes. The second price was for some kind of overhaul. It took them another week to finish the job, and when I went in to pick it up it still rattled. They then said it would cost me the amount of the second price to get the rattle fixed, but I had to repeatedly ask how much I would have to pay to fix the rattle. The guy finally said the rattle would be fixed for the price of 295.99 - 114 (the amount I owed him just for having him hold onto my watch for two weeks), but there was no conviction in his voice, and I highly doubted him. I wish I hadn't paid him 114 plus tax. I walked out feeling like a sucker, but at least I got my watch back.
This place is great! I really admire a company so dedicated to there work and customers. I was taken on a free tour of there facility in the back, it was ultra clean and very bright, there prices were too good to be true. Thet had the lowest price on my last 5 items pruchased ranging from three watches, straps and a table alarm clock. SEE THERE WORKSHOP in the back
I'm a self-admitted "watch-a-holic" so the next time I'm in TO, I'd like to check this place out.
