My name is Randie, a Guelph resident since 2007. My 3 year old Vizsla Ruby had a condition recently where she was lethargic, not eating, rapidly loosing body weight and was suffering from a irritated right rear leg. I took her to the Rockwood Veterinary clinic on Tuesday February 15th. They did a blood test to see if her thyroid hormone was normal. I paid the $175.00 fee and was told the results would be back from the lab Wednesday the following day. I called the office Wednesday the 16th but was told the results were not in yet. I called again that evening just before closing to see if the results had come back. I was told they were not in yet. I asked the attendant to please remove the home phone number listed on my account and gave them my cell number which was best to reach me on. I in fact old staff there on 5 separate occassions to use the provided cell phone number instead of the home number. I called again noon on Thursday the 17th and was told the results were not back yet. Being concerned about my pets condition I asked if someone could call the lab and see what the delay was. I called again Thursday evening and got the same information, the results were not back yet. I called Friday at noon hoping someone could tell me what was wrong with my dog but was told by the receptionist that the results were not in yet. I called again Friday evening hoping someone could tell me something but got the same message from reception. The results were not in yet. In the meantime my dog Ruby would not get off the couch, was not eating, could not jump on the couch without me lifting her on or off, didnt want to go outside to pee or have any walks or excercise. Every time she came back inside she would lay on the couch or bed shivering for over a half hour. We had to put a blanket on her to get her warm. Saturday morning came and no results. Finally someone called my house phone, not my cell phone, while I was at my office in Cambridge. I calle dthe Rockwood clinic to get the receptionist who told me the results were in and had been recieved Thursday at midnight. By now it was 2 pm Saturday the 19th. The doctors had gone home and could not be reached. Seeing as Monday was a holliday the clinic would not be open until Tuesday Feb 22nd which would be the earliest I could call back to make and appointment. They then offered to fax the results to the Emergency clinic in Cambridge where I could go if I felt my dogs condition was getting worse. I immediately drove to Cambridge wheere the doctor thoughtit was odd that they were checking for thyroid. This doctor actually took my dogs temperature, found she had a fever, ran blood tests to check liver and kidney function as well as a urine test. I was told the thyroid level would be low to the fact that she was fighting an infection and it very unusual for a 3 year old dog to suffer from thyroid problems. They gave us antibiotics for infection and an anti-inflamatory for her sore leg. Within 24 hours she showed great improvement and one week later is as good as new. The bill from the emergency clinic came to $500.00. I would have gone there the firstb time if I new I was going to be treated so poorly by the Rockwood Clinic. I spoke with the attendant at Rockwood on SaturdayFeb 19th before going to Cambridge to express my frustration with the manner in which my dog Ruby and I were treated. They showed a lack of professionalism and knowledge which could have cost my dog her life. Not 1 employee from Rockwood called to follow up. They got my money but have lost my business for both my dogs for good. I was very dissapointed with the service and the lack of concern for Ruby. They acted like they didnt care. No doctors could be bothered to find the results, interpret the result or call me to discuysss them with a plan of action. I was imply told to go somewhere else and deal with it there. I was obviously a inconvenience to them. I promise I wont be again. I hope someone at Rockwood sees this posting and calls me to discuss it, but I highly doubt it. Please check out your vet before you depend on someone for your petes welfare. It almost killed my dog putting my faith in them.
