Use this clinic for your pets with caution! I would not recommend Dr. Paxton. If they set you up with him just say NO! We took our pup there for his annual checkup and we told him he was drinking and eating alot and having mobility issues. He checked him over and told us our pup was healthy except for a weight problem and just told us to feed him less and no treats when in actuality our pup was very ill. Two weeks later we had to have him put down as Dr. Paxton did not pick up on three key symptoms that our pup had that as a vet he should have recognized immediately and have him tested. Do not take your pets there if they need critical care hospitalization either. They send you to this animal hospital in Whitby that is only open at night so you have to go back and forth from Whitby at night to Ritson during the day with your pet. One night in Whitby cost us over $800. They charge you for every single thing!!! Then the bill at Ritson for care for 3 visits was well over $1,000 and with every visit was a different vet. They sold us a box of insulin and needles which we hardly used any of and medication which apparently our pup never really needed in the first place, none of which they would refund to us. We are devastated at having to lose our beloved pup and are heartbroken that he did not get the proper care and diagnosis right from the beginning. If he had maybe the outcome would have been different.

I was going to the Oshawa Animal hospital, but when my (almost 17) coon cat had to leave us I went to this vet instead, because my daughter recommended them and their pricing was only a third of the Hospitals.
Everyone there was so kind, and especially as he was a new animal to them. He passed away so peacefully and with his dignity intact.
They also changed the appt. date because my cat hid from us on the actual day. They were so professional and got us in the next day.
Thank you so much, I will be back, I have a Golden Retriever and a calico cat.

Regards,
Christine Cullen.

This past summer our little dog got into a fight with a porcupine and was in a lot of pain. We went to our regular vet at the time and were turned away because they were closing. We phoned Ritson Veterinary Clinic and they fit is in even though it was late. The vet was great and truly cared about our dog. Our friends have been telling us to go to Ritson Vet Clinic for years and now we know why!!

I would first like to say Dr. Hoogers is caring and knowledgeable. The prices are fair but several members of the reception staff are rude, even though I came in as a new client with a new pup and a positive attitude. Some of the staff are personable, but shouldn't they all be? They are the first to come in contact with clients! One of the techs that cares for the animals in the back is outwardly rude in person and on the phone, so much so I am concerned that my pet may not receive the best care while having tests or procedures done. Who goes out of their way to make the worried parent of a puppy feel worse? What kind of staff insults and gossips about a client sitting 10ft away with a sick animal? Kicking someone that's already down is what that seems like. I don't need rude people making a bad situation unbearable. So far the care I've purchased is good, just uncomfortable. I would never disrespect a person that is Obviously in crisis about the health of their pet. Go Elsewhere, I am. Save yourself the trouble of being made to feel worse by people who need to be in a different profession. I can't put my pet in the care of people who have become cold and callous. Do not trust your animal to Dr. Carr, she was amused by my shaken condition and made light of it to a co-worker. She is an extremely unpleasant example of a veterinarian. The dark haired technician and several members of the reception staff in the clinic should be in a career that would allow them to work in solitude, they have no business working with animals (mine or yours) or the public. Lori Swindells in reception is exceptionally rude and ignorant. You will quickly realize who I'm talking about if you ever have an interaction with them. There are 3-4 vet clinics a short distance away from this clinic. This is the honest opinion of a pet owner appalled by the lack of professionalism at an animal care clinic. Shameful

We have been taking our dogs to Ritson Veterinary Clinic for 20 years now (4 golden retrievers & 1 Bernese mountain dog). The staff and doctors and everyone who work here are amazing people!! Magnum, Buster, Logan, Cruze and Finnegan all say thank you from the bottom of their hearts!

I would first like to say the vets are caring and knowledgeable, they do love animals. The prices are fair but few deals are given for repeat visits to treat the same problem. Several members of the reception staff are rude, even though I came in as a new client with a new best friend and a positive attitude. Some of the staff are personable, but shouldn't they all be? The reception staff are the first to come in contact with clients! One of the technicians that cares for the animals in the back is outwardly rude in person and on the phone, so much so I am concerned that my pet may not receive the best care and attention to detail while having tests or procedures done. Who goes out of their way to make the worried parent of a puppy feel worse? What kind of staff stands behind the counter and insults and gossips about a paying customer sitting 10ft away with a sick best friend? Kicking someone that's already down is what that behavior seems like. I want the best care for my dog, I don't need rude people making a difficult situation unbearable. So far the care I've purchased from the vets is good, Just uncomfortable. I'm not a perfect person, but I would never disrespect a person that is Obviously terrified about the health of their dearly loved pet.

Our dog Duncan was almost 16 years old (a black lab and hound mix). He had severe arthritis and Doctor Carr had him on Metracan for over a year. Recently he started bleeding internally and Doctor Carr said it was time. She was very compassonate and thoroughly explained the procedure. Duncan passed away peacefully and with dignity. Thank you Doctor Carr and your staff, you have a excellant clinic and I highly reccommend it.

I have had three different dogs in the past seventeen years and I have taken every single one to this clinic. The staff is friendly and personable, and always made both my dogs and I feel welcome. Recently, we had to put or Great Dane down. We were given a private room to say our final goodbyes in and our dogs was given the utmost dignity. I highly recommend taking your pets here.

Sadly earlier this summer we had to put down one of our dogs. This was an emergency visit early in the morning. After calling the office and explaining what had transpired with beloved Princess, the office, they said bring her in right away. After examination and a few tests, Dr. Carr, explained our options. Heavy heart, it was decided to not prolong her agony and allow her to pass with care and dignity. Dr. Carr and her staff were more than accommodating, allowing our family the time to say our goodbye's and be with her to the end. I have nothing but good things to say about this Veternarian Office, Doctor's and staff. Reasonable fee's and wonderful care. For those of you who wish to complain about cost's, it comes with the companionship of an pet. I might suggest if you have a problem paying for your pet's care, you either invest in pet insurance, or don't have a pet you can't afford to care for properly.

My friend had to have her cat put to sleep yesterday. She is a senior citizen living on an extremely low income. Prior to taking her cat in, she called for a price. She was very shaken and upset that she had to have her cat put down and arrived at the vet clinic only to be told that she had to pay an additional $67.00 because she had not been to that vet clinic for a long time and I guess it was classed as a "penalty"? What in the world does the fact that she hadn't been to the clinic for quite some time have to do with the vet's cost, time, effort, etc. to put her cat down??? Ritson Veterinary Clinic has put themselves in the same category as lawyers for taking advantage of people who are in an extremely vunerable position and gouging an older lady who simply was put in a very unfair position. Was she to take her cat back home and make another appointment at a different vet clinic? Of course not! She was there, it was emotionally difficult for her and she just wanted that day to be behind her. Her food budget for the month will now suffer so that the gouging vet clinic's owners can enjoy high living at her expense for a very unfair and questionable charge!!! Shame on you at RITSON VETERINARY CLINIC!!! You can bet that I will tell everybody I talk to about what you unethical opportunists did!!!

I have dealt with all of the vets at this clinic. I can only rave about the compassion. I had to put my Audi to sleep and it broke my heart. Dr. Hoogers and Dr. Carr where so compassionate and tried to make me comfortable. I knew they cared. I would not hesitate to use this clinic again. The technicians were very kind and understood how upset I was. They are not there to make money they truly care. I have never had bad expierence at this clinic and recommend it to anyone. As for the comments about the cold secretary, one must put themselves in their shoes. How many people have they had to deal with that are in a bad mood and is it easy for them to know any animal will need to be put down. We all have our bad days and they are very human. Are we always in a great mood?

Our 8 year old golden retreiver, Ally, was diagnosed with a bleed on her spleen six weeks ago. The doctors were quick to point out that surgery was possible, but would only buy her a little bit more time, so recommended against it. They also recommended against many other costly proceedures that wouldn't change the inevitable outcome. When the time finally came last Saturday, they were very compassionate and understanding of our grief. They allowed us to spend quite a bit of time with our lovely lady, when we delivered her body to the clinic. We were not rushed and everyone was so caring. We will definately become full time clients of this clinic when we get our next family member.

I took my cat to this clinic for about 13 years, until I had to put her down. I don't consistently have the same doctor, but I don't request anyone in particular because they all have been great. I particularly like the doctor who put my cat down last spring (yes, I know, ironic!). She was very kind and understanding, and she explained how the procedure worked. I have since acquired two cats from a shelter, and brought one in to have her booster done and book her to be spayed. I was told on the phone that before I could book the surgery, my cat would have to see the doctor. I wanted this surgery asap, before my cat goes into heat (she hasn't yet, and I don't want her to!). It took over a week to get in for an appointment for a quick booster, which I'm not thrilled about, but okay with. However, I'm on a tight schedule when it comes to the surgery appointment, and I wanted it two weeks from her appointment, which was the soonest they would allow. I requested an appointment for then, and was grunted at and told no. I explained that I was told on the phone that it wouldn't be a problem, and she huffed that it's all booked for the dates that I requested. I don't mind so much that it's booked,it is unfortunate because those were my days off, but I can deal with that. I dislike the way I was treated in the process. I do agree with the previous person's comments about the "cold" receptionist, I think she's the one I had as well. Very cold, condescending, and argumentative. I'm considering canceling the surgery and going elsewhere because I don't want to have to deal with her again. This is unfortunate because the doctors there are great, and I've been dealing with that clinic for so long.

Please not that the rating is for the doctors, and all the staff except the one "cold" receptionist.

The doctors are efficient and you get the feeling that they care about your pet. Fees are reasonable but one of the staff members isn't as friendly as the rest of the staff. The receptionist seems very cold. I took my cat in to get checked out after $150 later and have not found anything wrong with her and still no follow up from the test results to see if my cat needs the medicine that was talked about for 2 days. I am thinking of going elsewhere as I did leave the office in tears from being frustrated.

The employees and Doctors at this clinic are all very friendly and efficient. The prices are reasonable and the care is great. The Doctors are very thorough with examinations and appointments are on time. Follow ups are always done and pets are made to feel comfortable.
