Dr. Callbeck & Dr. Snider are both good Vets for my bunnies! I recently took Felix and both were caring & thorough with him. Dr. Callbeck called to follow up on how Felix was doing & squeezed him in last minute to check him again!

Appalled at this hospital. We have taken our cat to them since she was a kitten, and apparently they dont care about her or trust that we have thought about this a lot. In stead of putting our cat down, who is 19 years old and very ill, they make my whole family feel guilty for our decision by spending an hour suggesting we try other means.

Fair prices and not overly pushy. I've had many dogs over the years and used many different vets and this one has been the most reasonable(so far). Example: Broken dewclaw, removed, bandaged, with antibiotics approx.$180-$200.Oshawa Animal Hospital just down the street $450 for same treatment. *Note* stay away from Oshawa Animal Hospital!! the biggest bunch of crooks out there.

We have been going to Callbeck Animal Hospital for many years. All the staff there is friendly and knowledgable. We have always received the best care. Dr. Callbeck is very thorough with her check ups of my dog who suffers from severe allergies and has since she was a pup. We went through a lengthy investigation of her allergies and Dr. Callbeck explored all possibilities before referring us to a dermatologist for testing. Now, every 3 weeks my dog requires an allergy shot and Dr.Callbeck always spends a good amount of time inquiring about my dogs health inbetween shots. I like that it is one on one and she really knows my dog well. She is also very gentle in how she handles and interacts with my dog. Despite the fact my dog is injected every three weeks by Dr. Callbeck, my dog LOVES her! I would recommend this clinic to anyone looking for a new vet.

Its a set price by the government if you dont like the prices then dont get animas or go to school and become a vet and do it your self

Set by the government are they. Vet prices are all decided on through governed paper pusing are they. My message to every vet I have conversed with - Enjoyable discourse, thank-you for your ambiguity and obfuscation.

After having a friend (who is also a vet) he quite readily admitted that the vets set their own prices, they do belong to an organization and they do recommend a pricing scale, but they are NOT regulate by the government and if a vet chooses to price his or her fees below those recommended....they (the org) will do their utmost to put this vet out of business..saw it happen...twice...vet ran a practice out of his own home. Didn't do needless procedures...very reasonable..all of our pets did very well under his care...they (the other vets in the area) ganged up on him, had him under review so his license was almost suspended..the man ended up having a heart attack and retired..but he quite openly admitted that he couldn't deal with the other vets..who were bullies.

I HATE this hospital...they are NOTHING but rip off artists!!! I had to spend close to $1,000 to have my 2 dogs fixed!!! I had a verbal fight in the waiting room when the price they QUOTED me ON PAPER has "suddenly" increased by $400 PER DOG.....UNREAL.....I am looking for a new vet and I wish this site could actually lists GOOD/reasonable price vets name & telephone number. I am waiting to take my dog there today because he is COMPACTED-simply needs to have his glands squeezed(whatever they do) and so far I am told it will be $70 to just BE IN THE SAME ROOM AS THE VET...and WHO KNOWS how much for the actual visit.....my dog is in PAIN....the breed he is has this type of problem and well, VETS like Callbeck LOVE owners like me...............GOD HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 3 cats and I was a new client when I had them treated for fleas and vaccinations. I can't say enough good things here as far as the staff and doctors were to me. I don't mind the price or expense when it comes to my best friends health. They give me more than I can ever pay back to them. I won't take the time to "shop around" while my friends health deteriates and gets worse. They are my priority, not the cost or expense!

I was a new client. All I needed was a weight-appropriate heartworm med - the bill was $170.. Will NOT be going back to Callbeck...
Comment by jennifer on Feb 13, 2009
wow! that's expensive
Comment by mimigirl on Jan 08, 2012
dont you think you would need to know if your animal was healthy enough to be on those meds? think about it. bloodwork that is negative = healthy. therefore you can have the heartworm meds.

you should know how much it cost per year if you actually did this every year. callbeck animal hospital knows what their doing. goodluck searching for a new vet that will charge you the exact same amount.

We took our cat in when he started to drastically lose weight, they were the nicest people. They talk of the pet as part of the family, which they are, but all the time they are just counting the dollars. They did blood work on our beloved pet and kept hom overnight as he was dehydrated and needed an I.V $300.00. When we went in they said the blood work was good, they were pretty sure it was some infected teeth. Surgery, overnight stay $300.00. We took him home after and babied him trying to get him to eat soft foods, he got weaker and dehydrated again despite our best efforts. We took him back in and they said they needed to do more tests and keep him for observations guess what $300.00, so that would have been $900.00 so far and no results.
We did not leave our pet, we took him home and called another Vet that had been highly recommended by friends, they told us to get the file from Callbecks and bring it and our cat in.
When we went to our new vet she went over the bloodwork results and told us our cat had kidney disease, she showed us the bloodwork results and how to read the elevated levels that showed this. This was the same bloodwork that Callbecks had said were fine!!! The end result of course after doing all we could for a while, giving him saline I.V's and anything he would eat he slowly became weaker and we had to put him down. Kidney disease is fatal all the time in cats.
I wonder how much Callbecks would have soaked us had we kept going there, all the time talking so nice.

Great place for both pets and their owners. When we moved to Oshawa 10+ years ago we took our Maxi Girl there as it was close, over the years they cared for her annual visits and a minor surgery and just this past summer I had to have her put down and they were there for us right to the end. I am actually thinking to get a new puppy and was wondering if they had a website and a price list available for the cost of well visits and those first needed shots when I came across this board!

the wonderful staff and veterinarians at this hospital are the most helpful and kind and understanding group of people i have ever had contact with... i recently had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to my 17 year old cat smudge... she was starting to have some health problems and with the excellent information given to me i felt comforted and confident i did the best thing for my best pal... one week later i was to find out that my other cat had diabetes... still devastated from the loss of smudge i was really shook up about this new issue..how was i going to start giving injections to an almost 16 year old cat... once again the staff and dr. callbeck were there for my pet and i and all is going well .... please make this the vet clinic of your choice
