I've been with Dr. Baer for about 17 years. I initially chose her clinic because she specializes in cats and I didn't want my cat to be frightened by the presence of dogs and other animals in the waiting room. I stayed because Dr. Baer is a really wonderful veterinary doctor and human being. Not all vets love every type of animal, and some vets just don't like cats. No so Dr. Baer! She loves cats and she has over 30 years' experience treating only cats. I will stay with her as long as she remains in business. It's very important to me that my vet have an affinity for cats, and Dr. Baer certainly does. I'm very grateful to Dr. Baer and her staff for their knowledgeable and compassionate care of my cats.

I brought my two boys to see Dr Baer. She not only took real time with each of them, but the way she handled the cats made me feel she saw them as family, the way I feel. She was easy and comfortable with them, while simultaneously very on the ball and technically knowledgeable.
She was kind to them, and paid them attention as beings in their own right.

Dr Baer trusted me with aspects of my cats' care at home, as well. There is nothing that means more to me as a cat owner than to feel that I know what my options are, am trusted to look after these kitties, and that Dr Baer is a specialist we may need from time to time.

Rates were reasonable, and I didn't notice any sense of having to book unnecessary appointments or purchase expensive add-on services-- this vet's office will call you back to follow up.

I'm also going to note here that my parents had in excess of 25 cats as I was growing up, so I've been around a lot of vets in my time!

Our cat was sick with thyroid issues and we feel the clinic did an excellent job of helping her and us. The vet has a very practical attitude, and is willing to try escalating measures where warranted rather than jumping to the most expensive options first and we appreciate that very much. The staff are responsive to needs for relatively urgent action, we could get appointments usually within 24 hours and sometimes the same day.

The care I believe is still quite good but something has happened there and I decided to change vets. Used to be a nice friendly place but no more. I have spent thousands of dollars there but I won't go back.

New to Victoria, we were looking for a cat friendly/cat only vet. Well, this isn't it!
We only talked to the one disinterested receptionist. Meaning, we talked and received short 3 syllable answers or none at all. Guess they must be full of clients, since new customers seem to be unwanted or a real bother.
Later that afternoon we found another wonderful friendly place with cheery staff. If you love your cats, don't take them here.

Hello, I am the receptionist at Heritage. I'm very sorry you felt unwelcome. If you are new to the clinic, it can take a few days to get in because we have to obtain the cat's previous medical records. This allows the doctor to have a better understanding and history of your pet so she can give them the best care possible. We are not an emergency clinic so if your pet needs to be seen right away there is a walk in/emergency hospital. As I said, there is a procedure for registering new cats but we are happy to have new clients and I'm genuinely sorry that you didn't feel welcome.

The clinic used to be a very friendly and welcoming place, and Dr. Baer and staff were kind and helpful. Something seems to have happened the past year or so, however, and I agree with the 'No major concerns' review below that Dr. Baer just doesn't seem to really care anymore, compared to a few years back. I was quite taken aback with her attitude about a recent and reasonably serious concern that I had regarding my cat. She was quite unfriendly/cold and seemed kind of annoyed. Also, there has been a drastic change in the reception. The new receptionist/vet tech doesn't smile at all, ever, doesn't seem to like cats, seems completely disinterested in the work, and says pretty much nothing. I've been in there 3 times the past few months and it's the same every time. I'm really disheartened with the changes in this clinic. Not sure I'll stay with this vet.

Hello, its Amber the receptionist at Heritage. I am sorry you feel that I am unfriendly or don't like cats! This is not the case at all! I am a bit shy so maybe I don't chat as much as the previous receptionists did and that makes me come across as disinterested? I will definitely work on this! Thank you for your honesty and I will do my best to make the clinic a warm and welcoming place.

Dr. Baer has been my Veterinarian for over ten years. I have always found her to be completely competent and caring. I have always experienced great service from Dr. Baer and her staff and trust this great service will continue . I highly recommend Heritage Cat Clinic and are grateful for all that they have done for our pets.

incredibly rude staff when dealing with low income clients. Nice to my cat but not to me. Would not recommend

Dr. Baer is a great vet for my kitties. I went to three other vets before I found her, and she and her staff are top-notch. She is always on time, very friendly, and really intuitive about the health of my two cats.

We have used the clinic for all of our cats with some degree of satisfaction. I think Dr Baer is well qualified but there is at times a 'so what' attitude. After recent surgery there was no call back and even going in to pick up food the doctor does not make an appearance inquiring about the cat's progress. Almost like she has had enough. Nonetheless I would not take my cat elsewhere if I could help it. The hospital is truly a rip-off money wise but if you tell them you are associated with the Heritage Cat Clinic they would give you the special rate. At least it used to be.

I've taken my cat to Dr. Baer for 6 years, and have always been happy with the care provided. But the last year or so I can hardly get an appointment (closed on Saturdays and I think Wednesdays and some Thursdays) so twice my kitty and I have been sent instead to the emergency hospital for care ($$$$). No calls for follow-up how the kitty is doing, nothing. Getting a real "don't care" vibe these days. Very disappointing. I'm looking around for another vet.

Dr. Baer and the Heritage Cat Clinic go above and beyond in care. Dr. Baer is extremely capable and compassionate. She has done house calls way out here in Langford at no charge, and kept in constant touch with me when my cat was ill. I would not choose to go anywhere else.

I have been taking my five cats to Heritage since 2004, and have been impressed - over and over again - by both the loving care Dr. Baer and her assistant Fiona demonstrate when working with the kitties, and the outstanding level of service. Dr. Baer has offered to do extra things for me, like pick somebody up from Central Hospital on her lunch break, because I couldn't get away from work. Or put a dear one to rest right there and then because I was ravaged by the decision, and couldn't wait another hour to visit the Hospital. Sometimes they've given me a 'break' on my fees as well, because all of my 'fur children' are rescue cats. These folks could not be more compassionate. And I could not recommend this clinic more highly!
