Custom Tailored Upholstery

I have dealt with Bernie for at least 20 years and have recommended him to many family members and friends. His meticulous workmanship is evident in a wide-ranging variety of projects which we have sent his way. No matter the condition, style or age of the piece, he always returns it looking like it's worth a million bucks! I won't go anywhere else for my upholstery needs. On top of Bernie's highly developed technical skills, he is also very pleasant and personable. Whenever possible, he will go out of his way to accommodate requests. He makes excellent recommendations with regard to fabrics and does not hesitate to show less expensive fabrics that are of equal quality to more expensive ones. Most of all, Bernie is a master craftsman and artist who takes great pride in his work. And it definitely shows!

Bernie was invited over to recover a sectional. The initial meet was before Christmas in December. Very charasmatic and talks a good game. Seemed knowledgeable. Bernie took a 500 dollar deposit and promused to return in April to begin work.

When we never received phone call or email we followed up. Bernie let us know that due to some unforseen circumstances he would need to pick up in may. May came and went without a phone call or email. So we followed up again. We were given a mid June pick up after having to be really firm and explaining that already our expectations were not met.

I started having a bad feeling about the experience and when bernie finally picked up I began having second thoughts as I doubted his ability to deliver on what I asked to be done.

The couch came back after 2 weeks. It was covered and felt alot better than it previously did. An hour alter he left we had to call him. We discovered a small hole in the seam between the cushions and the couch squeeked badly. (One of the issuse brought up before work was done ) 2600 dollars later I'm beginning to wish we just bought a new sofa.

Bernie did offer to come and address the issue, however when I emailed him very politely about the quality of work and not meeting my expectations, he responded with "if you continue to berate the work I have done I will have no further contact"

3 weeks later the seam has dipped on one end of the sectional as well.


I would not recommend this company based on my personal experience

Bernie has been our upholsterer since the 1990's. Bernie is not only professional, friendly, and knowledgeable, but he produces an excellent finished product. Every piece of furniture we have had Bernie reupholster has shown true mastery of his craft. Bernie's attention to detail is outstanding. I would highly recommend Bernie's "Custom Tailored Upholstery" to anyone!!

If there was 6 stars I would have picked it! We had our couch done and went back for a chair later. Great service. Bernie Doleweerd, owner was very helpful and went the extra mile to turn our old family heirloom into a modernized piece of artwork.
