I took my bike here to get my Tiagra group on a road bike swapped out to Rival, because of the low price quoted by the mechanic, who was a nice guy. I got a call saying that the front derailleur and crankset/bottom bracket couldn't be installed because they were incompatible with my frame. No problem. However, when I got the bike back, I was charged 33% more for labour than they had originally quoted me. OK, I sucked it up. Get back home to inspect the bike. I noticed that the cassette and chain which were supposed to be swapped out, weren't. That bothered me. Also, the biggest problem they ran into was that the crankset/bottom bracket wasn't compatible. I bought a tool myself from another bike shop, installed the crankset by myself, and voila, the crankset fit like a charm! I called to let them know - the mechanic who worked on my bike and told me the crankset wasn't compatible had nothing really to say when I told him I installed it myself. Then he told me he worked on it for three hours and it was the bike from hell. I also asked why the cassette and chain weren't installed, and he said the splines were completely different, and there was no reason to change to a 10-speed chain without the 10-speed cassette (I agree completely with that assessment, by the way). That bothered me since they had originally told me the cassette was installed properly. I'm now going to take the bike to another bike shop for a second opinion and to possibly have the cassette and chain installed.
Bottom line is that I was quoted around $100 everything in to install the group, and pay for cables and housing. I ended up paying $130 for them to install shifters and a rear derailleur as well as the cables and housing for the brakes, and that's it. To top it off, they weren't honest about the work that they had done.
Luckily, the internet is here for me to complain to, and hopefully this will give potential customers a warning before going in there to have their bikes serviced.
The people are nice, but they weren't as cheery on the follow up call.
