Hillside Montessori School, Etobicoke Reviews (4)
Wonderful, loving, talented teachers. My daughter loves the school. She asks to take her to school even on weekends.
When searching for a pre-school, I was looking primarily for a friendly and warm atmosphere where my daughter would feel comfortable. I didn't care much about academics for my then 2.5 year old. Hillside Montessori didn't disappoint on both fronts. The curriculum is outstanding. My 3.5 year old can read and write and loves it! I wish I could take credit for it but I work full time:) Thank you, Hillside Montessori!
My only complaint is that the school does not serve hot lunch (well, they don't serve any lunch) to full-day students. I don't think the school is equipped for that. I usually just send a thermos with hot lunch for my child.
My youngest child will also be going to Hillside when he is old enough.
To respond to the previous reviewer, I can't speak about any of the previous years, but as of 2012 none of the teachers have their own kids as students.

This is an incredible Montessori. Our children learned to ready by age 3 and fully literate (alpha and numerical) by graduation. They are gentle but firm when it comes to discipline. It's an orderly classroom with lots of room for imagination and personal growth. They foster creativity but still manage to teach kids more than just the basics. I can't wait until our 3rd is old enough to attend at this amazing school.
Not sure what the other reviewer is talking about - none of the teachers have their kids in the school (2011-12 school year). Both of my kids have left this school with very good math and writing skills and could read chapter books by the age of 5. Also, the curriculum is diverse- aside from the basic montessori stations, they also were taught french and geography. Furthermore, the concepts of sharing, inclusion and respect for others are emphasized.
Overall an excellent school.
Overall an excellent school.
Very poor or non existent pedagogical concept. Educators demotivated to work with kids and had their own kids in class (therefore extremely biased towards other kids)
