Our Child has always attended private School . We have a strong bench mars as to what a good private school entails verses a mediocre or bad educational environment.

Initially, we went with a school that we had heard was excellent with a tuition of $19500.00 per year....yikes! Needless to say, we were expecting to have a wonderful experience. Boy, were we wrong! The school culture was terrible, unhappy teachers, below average Math curriculum and an overall lack of supervision. Even the Calibre of the children was below par....where did all the smart polite kids go to school? The culture was survival of the fittest. There were a lot of special needs children with no helpers...the place was "out of control." This horrible experience with an "elite" Ottawa Private School led us to Kanata Academy.

If you are looking for the development of the whole child...socially and academically don't accept anything less then Kanata Academy!

Kanata has a strong Math program (especially for children that are advanced). The Teachers seem happy and engaged. The children get to participate in wonderful extracurricular activities ranging from sliding and skiing to museum tours, etc. Special needs children that require a helper are able to have their helper with them during class (this was not the case at the other school.) it was total chaos! A bad situation for the teacher as well as the entire class.

At Kanata Academy the code of conduct is enforced. Unlike the elite school where it seemed be more of a political piece gathering dust!

Do not underestimate Kanata Academy...though it has a low profile...it is academically and socio developmentally far above some of the most elite private schools in the Ottawa Region!

Its an excellent school. My two sons are studying here. They both were in W.Erskine Johnston public school but after serious bullying incidents I took both my son out of W.Erskine and enrolled them in Kanata Academy. My older son (grade 3) who had traumatic experiences in public school got so much support in K.A and his confidence level and academic performance got so much better within 6 months.Staff is so polite and caring , even other students are so co-operative. K.A provides a respectfull and caring enviornment.Lots of filed trips ,sports activities, dramas and music. They go out of the way to help the child. I am so glad that we choose this school.

My daughter is enrolled in the pre-school and we feel she benefits greatly from the individual attention provided by the small class size. The staff are great and the communication is fantastic. We love the fact we get daily comments back in her agenda to keep us up to date on her progress and any issues that arise can be dealt with quickly. We also appreciate how caring and accommodating the staff are, and feel that they go out of their way to meet the kids' needs. We appreciate all the extra effort the teachers put forward to provide an enriching and nurturing environment that makes learning fun for our daughter. Since enrolling in the pre-school, we've been really impressed at the improvement in our daughter's social skills and classroom skills, but mostly that she's eager to go to school every day, and that she seems to have a lot of fun while she's learning.

Kanata Academy is a structured, yet nurturing environment for our young son. The whole school has purpose and direction, from the themes each month, to the learning stations, to the field trips, to the bulletin boards, the songs, to the extra-curricular activities offered. There is clear progression planning with respect to literacy and numeracy, and advice on how we can support his learning at home. Although the learning environment is structured and disciplined (right down to lunch clean-up), the staff is nurturing, patient, kind, and loving with our son. The older students mentor him, his creativity and individuality is encouraged, and his learning is supported at a pace with which he is comfortable. We felt he really needed a smaller class size environment as he started school, and the staff made his transition to a school environment easier than we could have hoped. The staff have been very receptive to our unique expectations, and have accommodated us at every turn without judgement or condescension. He is not another kid lost in a sea of mess in a room. When the new physical activity facility is built, I will change my rating to 5.
