Ice, snow throwing and bubble wrapping
I'll start this post with reminiscing about going to school, bringing my skates (yes, we were allowed to skate at school and not too long ago) and the fun times of tossing snowballs and sliding on the ice. Well, today, the VP of this school was out patrolling and decided that the children were not allowed to slide on a patch of ice. (the kids could get hurt...)

Since this morning I have searched online for a couple hundred yards of bubble wrap for my child, just in case there is a fall, a trip, or anything else that kids do a hundred times a day.

I think we need to ease up on these silly restrictions. No snow balls, no sliding on the ice, play gym is off limits in the winter, ridiculous restrictions on foods that look like nuts, but are not nuts. The school has a lot of great teachers and we really enjoy the inclusiveness, but LET THE KIDS PLAY AND BE KIDS!

People, please. First of all, there are rules to follow and all students need to follow them. Showing your child that even though you (the parent)are right there at the students side, i think that was righteous of the teacher to impose the detention albeit a little long, but still righteous. also with respect to the recycling at school, i think this is a great thing Gelncairn is doing. they send all the trash home for the student to recycle themselves. where the largerst impact goign forward will help anyway.
I think this school is one of the best in the county. the care i have seen and expierenced wihtin this school reinforces strong learning and caring students. My daughter went through K-6 and now there are 3 more siblings registered all doing very well and with lots of support and genuine care from all staff. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GLENCAIRN!!

Teachers usurp parent's responsibilities.
I can't believe it! My son got a detention for throwing snow at his sister after school. Not just 2 minutes after school but 12 minutes after school at the front of the school with his Mother 3 feet from him. They where walking to the car his infraction only about 7 feet away from being off school property. The teacher decided to issue the detention instead of communicating with the parent. I have donated time and money to this school and this is how they repay me? I consider this a slap in the face. I consider this school to be living under it's potential because of teachers who think they are smarter than parents! Not impressed!

Is it really the "green" school?
Glencairn has been named the most "eco-friendly school" in the tri-cities.

All children bring home their garbage from the nutritional breaks/lunch. Including rotten banana peels, apple cores, ect. Instead of reducing the janitors "workload" (as per the newsletter's explanation), we should be teaching the children how to properly reduce-reuse-recycle. Put organic items in compost, put plastics in recycling, ect.
The janitor doesn't seem to do much of anything. The broken beer bottles all over the grounds is a clear indication of what is important.
