Breanne's For Seniors, Barrie Reviews (1)
Never leave anyone that you care about in this place!
The owner, Nancy, who claims to be an RN is rarely there and hires a PSW for a couple of hours to do personal care and meals. The owner actually bragged about finding a deal at Giant Tiger, meat pies for 99 cents! The meals are done on the cheap, and the staff actually discussed an older gentleman's incontinence, chastising him while we were present. My mother was berated for using the washroom during the night, as she woke up Nancy and her family who reside in the basement. Thereafter, a commode was parked in her room, but rarely emptied. She suffered a fall midday and couldn't get up and a fellow resident went to get a neighbour to help. She cut her head and had a bad bruise on her hip, but wasn't even checked on while this "nurse" made the dinner meal, after going for groceries. 3 hours later my sister went to see her, and she still hadn't been assessed. The walkway to the door is snow packed, rarely shivelled, and uneven in its footing. I sent mail to my Mom that was never received. Every time I called, Nancy came down and hovered, calling in to Mom's room in a pathetic attempt to demonstrate that she either was present for my Mom, or it was a blatant attempt to overhear our conversation. On March break there was a steady stream if people in the home, children overrunning and using spaces we were told were solely for the seniors use (living room, dining room). It looked lije a daycare. Eventually, because of concerns for her diet, we had Mom keep a food journal. But it was when she came down with the flu, and what we saw, that repulsed us so badly we moved her immediately. Mom's vomit was being collected in a plastic wastebin beside her recliner, unemptied. Her soiled laundry undone making the room reek of urine. And her chair encrusted with feces, in the footrest and seat folds. This is, put plainly, ELDER ABUSE. And we have reported it as such.
