Square boy used to be a great place to eat. This is not the case anymore the food is a poor quality and the souvlaki dinners are very not authentic. The meat is precooked and dry and the fries are super greasy. If you don't care about quality and your health then this place is for you.
I do not understand these high five-star ratings but in my experience this is not the case and that's 100% truly a fact.
Everyone in there in the most part appears to be miserable especially the cashier with a gray hair and has a no care attitude just wants to collect cash. By the way they only accept cash please take a note of that. There is no exceptions cash only.
I tried it with my family just for the hell of it and we were truly disappointed in every aspect of the service this is not the reflection of what we see on the reviews there is definitely something wrong here.
Like I said in the past it once upon a time it used to be great but not any longer and I've heard that from many friends of mine as well so I don't understand these high ratings how people enjoy this place and leave a high rating review. I simply don't understand.
I do not recommend this place.

I have been going to square boy as long as I can remember. Last few visits I found that my food wasn't as good or fresh. I still gave it a shot as I couldn't resist the smell walking by. I informed the new very young lady about my last issues with the food. I asked her for a fresh chicken skewer as I watched her attempt to put a stale hard looking one on my pita. Instead of working with me as I asked politely with a smile, she told me that the hard stale overcooked again skewer was fresh. She angrily put the stale one on. Rolled it up agressively as if I insulted her. I tried for the last time to eat the pita and the chicken again was hard and overcooked. I'm not sure why the girl didn't want to give me a fresh one. As I saw and pointed to the fresh ones on the grill. I told her this was my last try at it and she just didn't care to work with me to hold onto a place that has had so many food memories for my family and friends. She should be taught customer service. If she had just given me fresh food I would have gone back. But no. She didn't care. Square boy has officially gone down hill. Very heartbreaking to me. As it was always an affordable, fresh and great food. Staff has always been happy, fun and so kind. Especially the counter staff who have many times made my day. Other than this young lady I still believe in the rest of the staff. No one wants to have a hard piece of chicken that frays and can't bite into. Also found a big bone in my previous order of chicken pita. Which I didn't think was possible being white meat and finding a whole wing bone.
Coming here first time for a lunch break, and I definitely enjoyed their food. The homemade cheeseburger wasn’t overwhelming and enjoyable. I wasn’t expecting much from the side fries but I have to say it wasn’t bad.
I love this place so much. I have to try to fight myself from grabbing my order there (banquet burger or chicken souvlaki on bun or pita + onion rings) as often as I would like. I've both dined here getting cozy in their booths and grabbed to go. They have (limited) parking which is nice. I hope this spot is here forever. Heads up: Cash only.
Square Boy at over a year ago was great! Now, ONLY CASH and food has gone up by $2 a item and full of MSG. Souvlaki other items..
Chicken Souvlaki chunkcs has been reduced by 30% and the burger buns look like a happy meal at McD's. The home made Bihar is 50% BREAD CRUMBS and falls apart with the first bite.
Grey haired cashier is so Rude and never smiles taking your order.
If your NOT Greek, very Boast.
Besides, area has gone bad, to many Drug Dealers in the area.
It is very unsafe for kids.
To all consumers , your better off going to o a Sobeys and for under $10 make your own meal Ina minute.

This place has been a staple on the Danforth for years. Ordered the Chicken Souvlaki dinner and it came with a gigantic portion of fries for under $20.
They also serve some delicious burgers, just make sure to order the homemade burger. Rustic diner vibes on the inside with limited seating.

Delicious homemade burgers made to order. Nostalgic decor and no fuss service. Clearly had a steady stream of regular customers. I kind of expected it to be hipster based on the branding and the area but actually the complete opposite, feels like it's not changed in 40 years and sometimes that's very much for the best.
After decades of the same guys making the same food at the same prices… the inevitable changes have finally caught up, but they’re not all bad.
Yes you won’t see the familiar old guys behind the counter, and they are missed.
Prices came up a bit, but not by much. So did they sacrifice size or quality? Not that I can tell, in fact they improved on what was already my favourite home-burger by going with a smaller and better bun. The bread to beef ratio is finally right.
Cash only btw - which translates to lower costs for them, and saving for us - which I love to see)
Also, don’t confuse the home-burger with regular burger. Get the home-burger.

Passed by hundreds of times but this was a 1st visit. If you like Johnny's in Scarborough then you will definitely like Square Boy. Great food, we'll cooked even when busy. Great friendly service even when busy. Inside seating is all booths, so big guys like me either take out or sit on the covered patio in front of SB. Prices very reasonable and is worth revisiting. Chicken Souvlaki on a bun had big juicy chunks of chicken. Really tasty.
CASH ONLY. They have a no-name ATM if you need it.

Old school burger and souvlaki kinda joint. Burger homemade is big and tasty and very affordable. All the prices are great
We were visiting Toronto and recommended this spot by some locals we ran into, so we decided to go and it was totally worth it! It's got a great old school feel and vibe from the aesthetic to the staff. The burger was the best of many I had that trip, and the Greek food was also very good. I can't wait to get back to Toronto for another round at Square Boy!
Been a while since i had been to Square Boy and it has not changed all that much. Only cash or a bank machine that puts a $3 service charge on your transaction, a bit of a racket. Good fries, decent enough chicken burger, really enjoyed the cheese dog. Solid fresh toppings. Reasonable prices. Still an old fashioned burger joint in the heart of the Danforth! A solid 3.5!,
An old fashion burger house which was not following typical nowadays burger style in North America ;) I enjoyed their style and it tasted good for the combination, but there was something off with burger itself for me. I am not sure if it was mixed with something or it wasn’t beef burger in general. And make sure you have cash with you.
I visited back on April 22 with three friends, and how fitting that this local spot is in Greektown because they sell Greek food which I love! I recommend the chicken souvlaki on a pita, it is really good! I will definitely be back here soon!
Stepping Back in Time for a Burger Delight!
Square boy a original retro burger joint that perfectly fits the Danforth areas vibe and has been there for decades, it hit all the right notes for a fantastic. From the moment I walked in, the retro vibe was charming, but it was the genuinely warm and welcoming customer service that really set the stage. The staff were attentive, friendly, and seemed to genuinely enjoy what they do.
I got the Double Cheeseburger and a side of Gravy Fries, and I was not disappointed. The burger was a hefty, satisfying. The patties were juicy, the cheese was perfectly melted, and the toppings were fresh. It was a classic burger done right, and it definitely hit the spot.
The Gravy Fries.
These were a standout! The fries themselves were wonderfully crispy, just the way I like them, and packed a great flavor on their own. Doused in a savory, rich gravy, they were an absolutely addictive side.
The whole meal came in at around $13, which I felt was excellent value, especially considering the generous portion size of the burger and the quality of the food. If you're looking for a delicious, unpretentious burger experience with top-notch service and a cool retro atmosphere, I highly recommend checking this place out. It’s a gem!

Used to be good value, but keep raising their prices. Now the same as everywhere else in the neighbourhood. It’s really unfortunate they have given up on the locals.
I was born in Toronto and lived in the East end for 40 years and had never been to square boy. I read some good reviews so thought I'd give it a try since I was visiting my daughter and son-in-law in Toronto. It's a popular place the traffic was steady mostly takeout orders I noticed. I chose to eat in and had Chicken souvlaki on a pita, a small Greek salad and a diet Pepsi which only came to $14 (cash only). Don't worry if you don't have the cash on you as long as you have it in the bank there's an ATM right inside the door. I was looking forward to seeing the grouchy old man but he wasn't working last night and the young fellow on the till was very pleasant and helpful.
I’m glad to see some Toronto institutions are still there as so much in the city has changed. Square Boy really hasn’t changed at all since I first went here over twenty years ago. Staff are still great, food pretty good and prices look like they haven’t changed much since that first visit.
