I am new to the yonge and eg. hood and was on the hunt for a great local where I would feel comfortable, and the food and drink were good. The Rose and Crown is it! The service is great. I've gone in now about 3 times and the bartender already knows my name and drink! Everyone who works there seems really friendly and eager to please. The food is great too. I'm a vegetarian and they have loads of yummy options for me. The best selling point for me is deffinitly the live music. I went in on a Thursday and the reggae band they had there was so much fun! Glad I found a place like it so close to my new house!

Great plus to grab a drink and watch the game, I love the leather couches in the back room.

So, I was in the mood for fish and chips, but it was too cold and I was too lazy to make the trek all the way to Penrose. Instead I decided, after reading a few positive reviews of the RnC's food, that I would give their fish and chips a shot.

I walked in, and I was immediately struck by just how massive the place is. You can't tell from the outside, but it just keeps going, with a good sized stage right in the middle, and several rooms in back. The waitress who served me was very nice, and was obviously a pro. Despite being in the mood for fish and chips, I decided to go with that day's special, the chicken soulvaki dinner.

That was a bad choice. The potatoes were dry and overcooked, the chicken was dry and bland, and the salad was dry and too heavy on the red onions. The tzatziki was served on the side, and was tasty enough to make up for the lack of flavour in the potatoes and chicken, but it definitely wasn't the best soulvaki I've ever had. (That honor would go to John Anderson's restaraunt at Yonge and Finch. Mmm)

To make matters worse, the soulvaki dinner and a diet coke came to 17 dollars after tax and tip. Also, they don't take debit.

However, despite my displeasure with the food, I will definitely be back to this place. It's pretty clear that the soulvaki was the problem, and I'm eager to give the bar another chance. Allegedly they have fantastic Pad Thai, and their Thursday butter chicken is great.

Also, they have live music 7 days a week, and a ton of different beers on tap.

My boyfriend and I went to Yonge and Eglinton last Sunday looking for a place to have brunch. We walked North along the east side... we passed by The Sunset Grill which was overflowing with people...sure I've eaten there.. it's good but I was not willing to wait in line.. we walked a little further and decided to go to the Rose and Crown. I've eaten there many times and I knew Rob would like it. They have totally renovated...I just love their new tables..I was happy to see that they still have their fantastic breakfasts on the menu. We both ordered the Rose Breakfast which was scrambled eggs, 2 slices of toast, home fried potatoes with bacon (for rob) and sausages for me ;) It was soo good.... I'm so glad we chose Rose and Crown...We are going again next Sunday. ;)

We went back last Sunday, Rob wanted fish and chips but unfortunately they were out of fish so here ordered the western omelet and said it was great. I ordered the rose breakfast but this time I had my eggs sunny side up instead of scrambled. Rob said I should try something different but what can i say.. they have really good breakfast sausages and that's what I wanted ;)
